ABC Orders 3 More Episodes of 'The Muppets'

Per Deadline, ABC's revamped, more 'adult' version of the classic comedy series will see a first season comprised of 16 episodes total now, with the network effectively extending the original 13-episode order by three additional half-hour originals. The news comes shortly after ABC gave a back nine order to Friday freshman Dr. Ken. 

The show currently airs in the notoriously troubled Tuesday 8PM slot on ABC, followed by the second season of the similarly rated Fresh Off the Boat. The Kermit the Frog-led crew of The Muppets brought home a huge 2.9 rating (A18-49 demo) to the alphabet network for its series premiere last month, but fell substantially in the weeks after, ringing in at a 1.4 rating this week.

ABC still seems on track to deliver a Fresh Off the Boat/The Real O'Neals comedy line-up in the current Tuesday 8/8:30 slots by the time The Muppets airs its 16 episodes. Check out the ABC Renew/Cancel Watch for current predictions on the fate of The Muppets beyond the 2015-16 season.
