Scream Queens Spinoff 'Scream Kings' Ordered to Series by Fox

Fox has added one more new series to their lineup. Scream Kings, a spinoff of their dramedy series Scream Queens, has been ordered to series. John Stamos is set to reprise his role from Scream Queens, where he appeared as Brock Holt. It is unknown if any other cast members will be reprising their roles. Scream Kings will reportedly be set on Blood Island, where Stamos' character was last seen after the events of Scream Queens' second season.

Scream Queens itself has struggled in the ratings thus far. While season one had modest ratings, season two performed quite poorly and averaged a 0.6 in the 18-49 demo. There are reports that Fox plans to renew Scream Queens and pair it with Scream Kings to form a "Night of Scream."

Quantico to be Retooled as a Family Comedy

Quantico started out promising in its first season in the tough Sunday at 10 time slot, but quickly lost more than half of that audience. To try to salvage it, it was moved behind The Bachelor, then retooled as a procedural, yet neither retools have caused it to rise in the ratings. Now one of the Big 4's lowest-rated shows, Quantico has one last chance as a family comedy.

Quantico will take a time jump of approximately 15 years, and will focus on Alex (People's Choice Award Winner Priyanka Chopra) and husband Ryan (Jake McLaughlin), deal with their kids. In fact, they have three kids: a moody 14-year-old, a normal, often-forgotten 11-year-old, and a quirky 8-year-old. Alex's father will also appear sporadically. Parenting has made Alex into an overbearing mother who comically cares about her children.

If successful enough for a renewal, this retooled version of Quantico is being eyed for the post-Modern Family slot, assuming the latter comes back. Here are the ratings for Quantico this season:

ABC Renew/Cancel - March 31: Imaginary Mary is Likely to be Canceled

ABC Renew/Cancel - March 31: Imaginary Mary is Likely to be Canceled
This week, new comedy Imaginary Mary premiered on ABC. Also, one ABC show is moving up a category, and it may move up one more category next week if it performs as well as it has been, or move back down if it doesn't. And, the three shows in my certain to be canceled category became official, two this morning and one on Wednesday, when it was also pulled from the schedule.

Format for predictions:
Show title (average 18-49 rating, season low-high)

Certain to be Canceled

Likely to be Canceled
Agents of SHIELD (0.8, 0.6-1.1)
American Crime (0.4, 0.3-0.5)
Imaginary Mary (1.4)
Secrets & Lies (0.8, 0.6-1.0)
Quantico (0.7, 0.6-1.0)
The Real O'Neals (0.9, 0.8-1.2)

Toss-Up
Dr. Ken (0.9, 0.8-1.1)

Likely to be Renewed
The Catch (0.8, 0.7-0.8)
Last Man Standing (1.2, 1.0-1.5)
Modern Family (2.2, 1.9-2.6)
Once Upon a Time (1.0, 0.8-1.3)

Certain to be Renewed
American Housewife (1.5, 1.4-1.9)
Black-ish (1.6, 1.2-2.0)
Designated Survivor (1.4, 1.1-2.2)
Fresh Off the Boat (1.2, 1.0-1.6)
The Goldbergs (1.8, 1.5-2.0)
Speechless (1.6, 1.3-2.0)

Fate Determined
Conviction (CANCELED)
Grey's Anatomy (RENEWED)
How to Get Away with Murder (RENEWED)
The Middle (RENEWED)
Notorious (CANCELED)
Scandal (RENEWED)
Time After Time (CANCELED)

Imaginary Mary: While you may imagine that the ratings were higher if you really liked the show, Imaginary Mary premiered to a 1.4 on Wednesday, losing 3 tenths from its lead-in of The Goldbergs. This proves that it is definitely weaker than Speechless, which usually loses 2 tenths from The Goldbergs and premiered even with it. Imaginary Mary will be making the move to Tuesday, like Fresh Off the Boat and The Real O'Neals did in previous seasons, and their trend indicates that Imaginary Mary will be making its Tuesday premiere around 0.9-1.0 out of probably 1.1-1.3 from Fresh Off the Boat (depending on if it gets a bump without This Is Us on, and how much of one). It's unlikely it would stay at those numbers, because most shows don't, leading to Imaginary Mary proving it is a weaker show than The Real O'Neals.

Dr. Ken: After its third consecutive week of 80% retention from Last Man Standing, I have decided to upgrade Dr. Ken to a toss-up in preparation for its season finale. If it is able to get similar retention for the finale, then I will predict renewal. If not, I will go back to predicting cancelation. At the moment, I would say that it has a 50% chance of being renewed.

TV Ratings 3/30/17: The Amazing Race Starts Lower, Chicago Med Fractional, TGIT Improves (UPDATED)

Thursday night was the the return of long-running CBS reality staple The Amazing Race. While it returned much lower than its latest spring premiere, it was still a pretty big improvement over what Training Day was doing there. Also on CBS, the comedies returned to Thursday after a hiatus.  The Big Bang Theory was down three tenths from its last airing, while Mom was down one and Life in Pieces slipped two. The Great Indoors was steady with its latest Thursday airing. ABC had a great night, with Grey's Anatomy gaining two tenths. That helped Scandal gain three and The Catch gain one.  NBC had an awful night, though. Powerless returned to a new low of 0.6, below its Superstore repeat lead-in. Chicago Med posted its worst-ever result, dropping five tenths from its last airing. The Blacklist: Redemption looked much healthier though, as it gained despite having a higher lead-in. Fox's Masterchef Junior was down a tenth, though Kicking & Screaming was steady. The CW lineup returned, and Supernatural was up a tenth.

Finals Update: Powerless (-0.1), Grey's Anatomy (-0.1), Scandal (-0.1) , Mom (-0.1), and a Superstore repeat (-0.1) all adjusted down. The Big Bang Theory (+0.1) adjusted up.

Off Topic - Week 29 (2016-17 Season)

Week 29! The convoluted mess of the television season is slowly winding down. Let's discuss away!

Mom S4E17 Review

This week, Jill's dreams of being a foster mother may be coming true.

S4E17 "Black Mold and an Old Hot Dog"

The episode begins at an AA meeting. It starts with Bonnie talking about how the people in her building don't like her, which is very funny, and then Jill's share is more serious, about how she will find out later that day if she will be a foster mother. Through all of this, it is very funny when everyone impersonates Marjorie, and Marjorie wonders if she sounds like that. Christy goes with Jill, and it's funny when she goes to yell at the person who told Jill she can't be a foster mother, and Jill redirects her to the right person.

Jill gets a call, and discovers that the case worker changed her mind, and that there is a fourteen year old girl for her. Jill is nervous to meet this girl, which leads to a lot of funny moments, such as when Jill tries a hat out and when she compares the girl's post-apocalyptic graphic novel to Archie comics. Jill believes that she blew it, but she gets a call that the girl picked here. There are some hilarious moments when Jill says some things that don't sound exactly right, and especially when Bonnie compares the dropping off of the girl at Jill's house to Amazon Prime.

Christy visits Jill, and she ends up getting along well with the girl. Meanwhile, Bonnie tries to win over the people in the building, particularly a blind man, offering banana bread and a back rub, which is very entertaining. Jill is worried because she thinks that people who don't like her at first won't like her ever, but Christy says that she didn't like Jill at first. It is a really sweet moment when Christy admits to the girl that she doesn't know what she's doing, and the girl says she's doing okay. At the end of the episode, Bonnie celebrates being on probation, because it could have gone worse.

This was a great episode. Each minute was filled with great jokes, and there was a really sweet ending. Also, it presented a realistic problem with Bonnie's job, and a potential solution if Christy and Bonnie end up getting kicked out.

Score: 10/10

The 100 S4E8 Review

The search for a solution to survive the radiation continues this week, with both Clarke and Abby on the island and with Jaha.

S4E8 "God Complex"

The group on the island all prepare themselves for the difficult choice they are making, testing to see if the person they have injected nightblood bone marrow into can withstand high levels of radiation. Everything seems to be working, until they turn up the radiation to a point just past the levels of the black rain, and he immediately starts showing horrible symptoms. It is a pretty horrifying thing that they have done to him, even if it is something that they had to do in order to test this possible solution. The horrified expressions on their faces show how much what they have to do to survive affects them, especially how Murphy is horrified by this, when he was the most eager to get this done.

Even though the test went poorly, they discover another possible solution from it. Raven doesn't want to test on someone else, but Clarke recognizes that they don't have another choice. It is revealed that Emori lied about who the person they tested on was, which leads to everyone turning against her. Luna doesn't want to give any more of her bone marrow, but she is forced because that is the only thing that could potentially save everyone. I loved when Raven brought up how similar this is to Mount Weather.

Clarke knows that they have to test the possible solution, even if they don't want to. Her heart and her brain end up making a compromise here, as she chooses to test herself instead of Emori. However, Abby refuses to let this happen, because of the hallucination she had earlier of Clarke. It's a powerful emotional moment for Abby, and Clarke's disagreement with what Abby has done, but love for her mother is shown wonderfully on her face, as she also tries to figure out what they will do now.

Jasper insists upon leaving Arkadia, and when Bellamy can't get him to take a tent that would protect him from black rain, he joins him. Out in the forest, there are multiple references to season one, as Jasper tries to convince Bellamy of his ideology, including how Bellamy used to insists upon doing "whatever the hell we want". I really enjoyed these references, because I loved season one and because it reminded us that this is the same show that it was three years ago, even if it has developed and their problems are different now than they were then. Jasper takes Bellamy to a party, and he ends up actually participating.

Jaha gets an idea of how they may be saved based on something that the grounders say. However, only flamekeepers know the origins of the words and of a symbol, so Jaha, Kane, and Monty go to Indra. I love the exchanges between Kane and Indra, because while they both really believe certain things, they are still able to work together. However, the two of them working together ends up leading to Indra departing from the plan, picking up Monty's gun, and shooting the people letting them pass because she doesn't want them to survive if there is a bunker. The group's discovery of the twelfth seal and the bunker is very interesting, and it seems like it's the right time for a solution to be found, leaving five episodes for the complications of getting people to the bunker, and who gets to survive.

In short, I loved this episode. Dealing with the questionable ethics on the island ended up being a wonderful story, and it was presented very well, with unexpected things happening at the end. Jasper and Bellamy weren't the most compelling part of the story, but they provided for some great references to the past, as well as a bit of comedic relief. And finally, Jaha, Kane, Monty, and Indra's part of the episode provided some great advancement of the plot, and the timing of this solution seems perfect, because more things that would wind up not working out would get tiring very soon.

Score: 10/10

TV Ratings 3/29/17: Imaginary Mary Premieres Okay, Modern Family Back in 2.0s (UPDATED)

Wednesday night was an all original night for the networks. ABC had the series premiere of Imaginary Mary, which pulled a 1.4. That was an improvement on the last episode of Speechless, but that isn't saying much because that was a series low for Speechless. The Goldbergs managed to gain two tenths, rising from a season low 1.5. Modern Family gained a tenth while Blackish and Designated Survivor were tied with their latest episodes. Fox's Shots Fired dipped a tenth to a 1.0, though it was at 0.9 in its first half. Empire had a ugly four tenth drop to a new low. The CW stayed steady at their now-typical numbers. On NBC, Blindspot was steady, but lead outs SVU and Chicago PD both dipped a tenth. The rocksteady Survivor posted its fourth straight 1.7. Criminal Minds was down a tenth, but its spin-off series Beyond Borders rose a tenth.

Finals Update: Modern Family (+0.1), Survivor (+0.1), and Chicago PD (+0.1).

Designated Survivor S1E14 Review

This week's episode provides us with a story where American lives are in danger, and Kirkman doesn't have much time.

S1E14 "Commander-in-Chief"

At the start of the episode, Hannah and her team attempts to capture Charlie, the other survivor of the bombing, but he escapes. It turns out that he wants immunity for information that he has. Kirkman meets with a former president, who tells him how he thinks he's doing, and gives him some advice. Kirkman talks to Charlie, who reveals that he was told to name Kirkman as designated survivor. Charlie explains why he never got to give anyone the information he had before the bombing occurred. I really enjoyed the flashback here, because it was intense.

Kirkman and the former president talk again, this time about lives, and it is a great discussion having to do with the weight of being commander-in-chief. The former president advises Kirkman on whether or not he should prioritize American lives. The former president insists that American citizens must be put first, because it is Kirkman's responsibility to protect them. This scene is great, because you can really feel the weight of the decision Kirkman has to make.

Aaron tells Kirkman that he intends to resign, but Kirkman wants to keep him. Aaron sees himself as a liability to the administration, and believes that his resignation would protect the president. Kirkman asks the former president to be Secretary of State, and that seems like a good choice for this character, considering how he has advised Kirkman on foreign matters this week. Aaron says goodbye to Emily, and while I never really cared for Aaron, it was a nice moment. Kirkman gives Hannah more power, which is a great move as well.

I thought that this episode was stronger than the recent ones, because the episodic story filled the time and didn't drag on, like the plots of the most recent episodes have.

Score: 9.5/10

Modern Family S8E18 Review

This week's Modern Family tells four stories, each which take place over the course of five minutes.

S8E18 "Five Minutes"

Mitch and Cam are on a plane, and they take sleeping pills. However, the plane has mechanical issues, so they have to take another flight. They struggle to figure out what exactly it is that they are supposed to do due to the pills, and while that is funny at first, it ends up becoming a bit much. When this story ends, it's about time.

Phil and Claire visit Alex at college when they haven't been getting much response from her. They are concerned when she seems to be making a microwave burrito and has a cat, but it is then revealed to Phil and Claire that Alex is dating Ben. Claire's reaction to this is pretty funny at first, but her negativity becomes annoying.

Manny tries to parallel park, and when Jay offers to do it, Gloria brings up that Jay likes to jump in and complete other people's things. They have a squabble about Gloria's storytelling skills. Unlike the previous stories, this one is brought to a nice conclusion, with Jay telling a personal story from his childhood.

Rainer proposes to Haley, and she says yes (for some reason) because she apparently doesn't want to overthink it. However, Rainer thinks he may have made a mistake after his weather prediction turns out to be wrong (and his reaction to the weather was a rare funny moment for him), which leads to Haley thinking that being with Rainer forever may not be the right choice.

Both the Mitch and Cam and the Phil, Claire, and Alex stories started out funny, but the former went too over-the-top and in the latter Claire got annoying. Manny, Jay, and Gloria were easily the best this week, with a story that really worked. Rainer and Haley's story really just displayed why this relationship is really dumb.

Score: 6/10

Shots Fired S1E2 Review

Last week's pilot introduced us to the case that will be dealt with and thoroughly introduced us to the main characters of Preston Terry and Ashe Akino.

S1E2 "Hour Two: Betrayal of Trust"

At the start of the episode, the police officer who shot the kid is approached by the kid's father, who has a gun. But, he talks him down by telling him that if he shoots him he will never know the truth. That seemed pretty unrealistic to me. If he is at the point that he is willing to kill this officer, would he seriously listen to that reasoning?

The governor talks to Preston, and she is starting to look shady when she is wondering why the officer hasn't been arrested yet, and is impatient regarding the investigation. Preston and Ashe try to figure out who leaked the video of the officer's racist remarks to figure out who wants him to look guilty.

Preston goes to an event that the governor invites him to, and his father is supposed to join him, but doesn't when he decides he needs to help out his brother after a bad game. Meanwhile, the pastor that we were introduced to last week is met by another pastor she knew before, who was not very supportive of her, It is a great moment when she steals the attention by leading a powerful prayer.

Preston meets his father, who is disappointed in his life choices, because he supposedly had the potential to go to the World Series. I am very glad that we are getting some complications in Preston's life this week, as we got a lot of that with Ashe last week. And, luckily, their issues are very different from each other.

Ashe tells Preston that they have to trust each other, and that they need to investigate the cases of both kids that were shot. They do some investigating, which they haven't done much of earlier in the episode. They don't  end up finding out much.

Very little happened in the case this week, which makes it seem like the show doesn't know how to extend that story over the course of ten episodes. However, the scenes relating to Preston's life and the scenes with the pastor were great.

Score: 7.5/10

Predict the Ratings of the Imaginary Mary Premiere

Tonight, the new ABC comedy series Imaginary Mary premieres. The series will get a special preview behind the Goldbergs before moving to its original 9:30 PM Tuesday timeslot for the rest of its run. Do you think it will be as successful as fellow Adam F Goldberg series The Goldbergs or will it flop like most other midseason shows this year?

Imaginary Mary, 8:30 PM on ABC

Time After Time Pulled from Schedule, Replaced With Match Game

Time After Time's time has come to an end. ABC has pulled the freshman series from its schedule after five episodes. This comes as no surprise ratings-wise, as the series has averaged a 0.5 in its five episodes. The series will be replaced with Match Game, which averaged a 1.0 on Wednesdays at 10 PM. Time After Time is one of the few freshman shows to be pulled from the schedule this season, joining CBS drama Doubt, which was pulled in February after two episodes.

What do you think of this news? Are you sad that Time After Time is no more? Do you think this was a good decision? Let us know in the comments below.

TV Ratings 3/28/17: Bones Goes Out With a Season High, Trial & Error Fractional (UPDATED)

Tuesday night was the end of an era, as Fox said farewell to their longest running drama. Bones aired its series finale and delivered a season high, and the lead-in comedy block also rose. The ABC comedies took the night off before they welcome newbie Imaginary Mary, but People Icons aired its finale and tied a season low. Agents of SHIELD returns next week in the 10 PM slot. NBC had a very rough 9 PM, with Trial & Error dropping to 1.0 in the first half and 0.8 in the second, well below its first post-Voice airing. The Voice was down two tenths at 8 PM, while Chicago Fire was down one. The CW's the Flash fell to a new low, though it has 0.9/0.8 half hours and could adjust up to avoid that. Legend of Tomorrow stayed even. Bull on CBS held steady, while New Orleans was down and NCIS was up.

Finals Update: A repeat of American Housewife (+0.1) and The Flash (+0.1) adjusted up. Legends of Tomorrow adjusted down.
