Friday TV Ratings 4/29/22: NFL Draft Sinks on Night 2 and Ties Dateline NBC for the Lead, SmackDown Declines, Magnum PI Hits New Low (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The '2022 NFL Draft' (0.45, -0.41) plummeted for its second night on ABC, losing close to half of what it posted on Thursday evening (0.86). The 'Draft' fell so far that it was merely able to tie for the top spot of the night with NBC's 'Dateline' (0.45, -0.01). 'Dateline' itself nearly doubled a sinking edition of 'The Blacklist' (0.23, -0.06) that aired before it. CBS also had nothing but declines as 'Come Dance with Me' (0.25, -0.02), 'Magnum PI' (0.31, -0.09), and 'Blue Bloods' (0.38, -0.03) all lost some ground. Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.38, -0.09) fell by nearly a full tenth. 'Charmed' (0.06) was stable on the CW while 'Dynasty' (0.04, +0.01) was the only show of the night to actually rise.

Finals Update: 'Blue Bloods' (+0.1) adjusted up.

College Season 4 Episode 15: Jalapeños to the Eyes

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Canceled After 7 Seasons

Just hours after announcing Batwoman's cancellation, another CW superhero drama has gotten the axe. Veteran DC property Legends of Tomorrow has been canceled after a seven-season CW run, bringing the network's Arrowverse franchise to just two shows now. LOT was one of the network's longest-running programs currently airing this season, second only to The Flash. The series, like Batwoman, rated towards the middle of the CW ratings pack, with a 0.09 average. That was a 6% increase from its sixth season, though that was not enough to save the aging series during a transitionary period for its home network. Caity Lotz, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Jessica Macallan and Olivia Swann were among the stars of the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Batwoman Canceled by The CW

The fight is over for Batwoman. The CW comic book series has been axed after only three seasons, making it the shortest-running of The CW's "ArrowVerse" franchise, a franchise that has more-or-less defined The CW for the better part of a decade. The show didn't rate notably lower than the rest of the CW's lineup, with a 0.09 18-49 season average that placed it smack in the middle of the pack on the lowest-rated Big Five network. However, production costs and the impending sale of The CW seem to have led to an early exit for the show. The show underwent a major casting change over its run, with original star Ruby Rose exiting the show after a single season of playing the titular hero, being replaced by Javicia Leslie for the remaining two seasons. Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang and Robin Givens also starred in the series.

Thursday TV Ratings 4/28/22: NFL Draft Drops from 2021 but Remains Top Show Overall, How We Roll and MasterChef Junior Fall, Law & Order: SVU Steady (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's broadcast of the '2022 NFL Draft' (0.86) was about 18% lower than last year's showing (1.05) but nonetheless beat out all programs on the other four networks. On CBS, 'Young Sheldon' (0.62, +0.04) and 'United States of AL' (0.42, +0.01) enjoyed some gains as 'How We Roll' (0.35/0.32) dipped by three-hundredths for the second of its two episodes. Canceled drama 'Bull' (0.35, +0.04) picked up four-hundredths at 10. 'Law & Order' (0.45, +0.01) inched up, 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.60) held flat, and 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' (0.48, -0.02) lost two ticks. 'MasterChef Junior' (0.37, -0.04) and 'Call Me Kat' (0.27, -0.02) declined on Fox while 'Welcome to Flatch' (0.16) matched its week-ago outing. 'Walker' (0.07, -0.01) and 'Legacies' (0.05, -0.04) both slipped on the CW.

Finals Update: '2022 NFL Draft' (+0.2) and 'MasterChef Junior' (+0.1) adjusted up.

'The Flash' (0.12, -0.03) shed three-hundredths on the CW while 'Kung Fu' (0.09, +0.02) gained two-hundredths. Tuesday TV Ratings 4/26/22: FBI and This Is Us Tick Down, Judge Steve Harvey Hits New Low for Finale, To Tell the Truth Ends Slightly Up (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.41/0.34) rose by a hundredth in the 8PM slot but dropped to a new series low for the latter-half of its two-hour finale. The 9PM installment sported a rating that was less than half of its premiere from early January (0.73). 'To Tell the Truth' (0.30, +0.03) picked up three-hundredths for its season closer at 10. 'This Is Us' (0.84, -0.02) shed two-hundredths on NBC, but 'Young Rock' (0.40, +0.08), 'Mr. Mayor' (0.31, +0.02), and 'New Amsterdam' (0.37, +0.01) all made gains. CBS's 'FBI' (0.55, -0.01) and 'FBI: International' (0.49, -0.04) dipped as 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.47, +0.02) rose by two-hundredths. Fox's 'The Resident' (0.37, -0.04) ticked down while 'Name That Tune' (0.28, +0.03) grew for the first time this season. Finals Update: 'Name That Tune' (+0.1) and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Blue Bloods Renewed by CBS

Another veteran member of the CBS lineup has received a renewal ahead of the quickly-approaching May Upfronts. This time, it's Friday staple Blue Bloods receiving a renewal. Tom Selleck's police procedural is nearing the end of its twelfth season, and its run has now been extended to at least thirteen seasons. Despite a 15% drop in the ratings from last season, Blue Bloods remains one of Friday night's top shows, and easily rates above all others in total viewers. It is also one of the highest-rated 10 PM dramas on television. It is the only CBS Friday show this season to secure a renewal for next season, aside from SWAT, which was shifted to Sundays at midseason. Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Len Cariou and Will Estes lead the procedurals cast alongside Selleck. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Monday TV Ratings 4/25/22: 9-1-1: Lone Star and American Idol Rise, 9-1-1 Stable, The Price Is Right At Night Solid

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'American Idol' (0.72, +0.10) grew by a full tenth when stacked up against last Monday and managed to top the evening. That strong lead-in was essentially wasted on a 10PM rerun of 'The Good Doctor' (0.22). Fox drama '9-1-1' (0.68) tied its last outing as '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.62, +0.04) gained four-hundredths. CBS's 'The Price Is Right At Night' (0.61, +0.08) was up by eight-hundredths from the installment that aired on Valentine's Day (0.53) and led into encores of 'NCIS' (0.31) and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.25). The TV Ratings Guide’s Fourth Annual Renewal Odds Challenge!

The end of the 2021-22 television season is nearing, and we here at The TV Ratings Guide have decided to bring back a game we post each year around this time. Our Renewal Odds Challenge is back for another year! In this game, we ask participants to give every scripted program on television renewal odds, assigning each show renewal odds from 0 to 100, with 0 meaning you think it has no chance for renewal and 100 meaning you think it's certain to be back. You may participate as many times as you want, but your scores from each time will be preserved and averaged out, meaning that if you give a show 90% odds in your first submission and 100% odds in your second, your odds will then be 95%. Once all networks make their decisions, your scores will be figured out and posted here. It is graded on a scale from -50 to 50 points. A correct 100 or 0 prediction will get you 50 points. Submitting 50% odds is considered a push and you will not receive or lose points. If you are wrong, and submit 30% odds for a show that ends up renewed, you will lose 20 points. Good luck, and have fun!

Sunday TV Ratings 4/24/22: The Rookie Slightly Up for Spinoff Backdoor Pilot, American Idol Leads, NCIS: Los Angeles and The Equalizer Down (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Leading out of a strong rerun of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.51), ABC programs 'American Idol' (0.79, +0.09) and 'The Rookie' (0.37, +0.02) both rose when compared to their week-ago episodes. '60 Minutes' (0.57, +0.02) and 'SWAT' (0.51, +0.03) perked up on CBS as 'The Equalizer' (0.51, -0.05) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.49, -0.08) both slipped. NBC's rerun of 'American Song Contest' (0.14) picked up a hundredth, 'Weakest Link' (0.25) held steady, and 'Transplant' (0.22, +0.09) nearly grew by a full tenth. On Fox, 'The Simpsons' (0.30, +0.01) inched up, but 'The Great North' (0.23, -0.02) and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.29, -0.02) lost two-hundredths apiece. Repeats of 'Simpsons' (0.29), 'Bob's' (0.22), and 'Family Guy' (0.29) surrounded the originals. Saturday TV Ratings 4/23/22: The Lion King Tops Quiet Saturday Night, Masters of Illusion Stays Invisible (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Though it barely managed a 0.3 rating, ABC's telecast of 2019 film 'The Lion King' (0.30) found itself leading the pack on a quiet Saturday evening. After the movie ended, ABC opted to air another rerun of 'Abbott Elementary' (0.19). NBC had a modest 'Dateline' rerun (0.27) and a slightly heftier 'SNL Vintage' (0.28). CBS had feeble reruns of 'NCIS' (0.11) and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.16) that likely caused '48 Hours' (0.24, -0.07) to decline by seven-hundredths. Fox's repeats of '9-1-1' (0.09) and 'The Cleaning Lady' (0.07) were at an even more pitiful level. 'Would I Lie To You?' (0.05) was flat on the CW while 'Masters of Illusion' (0.04, +0.01) grew by a hundredth. Reruns of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.06) and 'Illusion' itself (0.04) occupied the 8PM and 9:30PM timeslots respectively.

Finals Update: 'Masters of Illusion' (-0.1), the 'Masters of Illusion' repeat (-0.1), '48 Hours' (-0.1), and the 'NCIS' repeat (-0.1) adjusted down.

Friday TV Ratings 4/22/22: NBA Playoff Game Weak on ABC, Come Dance With Me Rises From Lackluster Premiere, WWE Smackdown Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The Milwaukee Bucks may have beat out the Chicago Bulls in the 'NBA Playoffs' (0.45), but the ABC broadcast failed to make much of an impression on the ratings landscape. On top of that, the 'NBA Countdown' special (0.24) that led into the game ended up being the lowest-rated broadcast on the big four networks. On CBS, 'Come Dance With Me' (0.27, +0.07) rose by seven-hundredths from last week's disappointing launch and was followed by another 'Blue Bloods' rerun (0.26). NBC drama 'The Blacklist' (0.29) held flat as 'Dateline' (0.46, -0.01) fell by a hundredth. Despite dropping by a hundredth, Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.47, -0.01) was able to top the night after losing to 'Shark Tank' last week. The CW's broadcast of the movie '2040' (0.02) served as an accurate depiction of how TV ratings will look like in that year.

Finals Update: 'NBA Playoffs: Bucks v. Bulls' (+0.1), 'WWE SmackDown' (+0.1), 'Dateline NBC' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'Blue Bloods' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: CBS comedy 'Ghosts' (0.56, -0.04) closed out a successful first season with a modest dip, shedding four-hundredths on a week-to-week basis. 'United States of Al' (0.41, -0.05), 'How We Roll' (0.35, -0.08), and 'Bull' (0.31, -0.07) also lost some ground as 8PM anchor 'Young Sheldon' (0.58, +0.01) inched up. 'Call Me Kat' (0.29, -0.03) and 'Welcome to Flatch' (0.16, -0.01) trickled down on Fox, but 'MasterChef Junior' (0.41, +0.01) picked up a precious hundredth. ABC's broadcast of 2019 sequel 'Jumanji: The Next Level' (0.39) was a mild success for the network and was followed by a rerun of 'Abbott Elementary' (0.22). NBC had encores of 'Law & Order' (0.24), 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.29), and 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' (0.26). The CW went with repeats of 'Walker' (0.05) and 'Legacies' (0.04).

CNN+ to Shutter After a Single Month

With a turnaround time that manages to make Quibi look like a success, CNN has announced that their just-launched streaming service CNN+ will become defunct in a little over a week. Its final day of operations will be April 30th. CNN+ was the latest in a line of new streaming services to fall under the Warner Bros. Discovery banner, and was controversial from its launch, with many questioning why the service even existed at all. The controversy continued in the months following its launch, with reports of low subscription counts and criticism for the limited amounts of programming on the service. The service's original programs, including programs from journalists Anderson Cooper, Chris Wallace, Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper, as well as programs from NBA star Rex Chapman and actress Eva Longoria, have not been officially canceled despite the service shutting down, with decisions on the fate of those shows coming later.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/20/22: The Masked Singer Sets New Series Low, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire Dip, Rising Survivor Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: A controversial appearance from former mayor Rudy Giuliani did nothing to help boost Fox's 'The Masked Singer' (0.63, -0.03). The reality series set a new series low and remained in third place in the 8PM hour. 'Domino Masters' (0.33, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths at 9. On CBS, 'Survivor' (0.86, +0.07) gained seven-hundredths, 'Beyond the Edge' (0.28, -0.02) dropped by two, and 'Good Sam' (0.20) held steady. ABC's 'The Goldbergs' (0.49, +0.03) rose by three-hundredths while 'The Wonder Years' (0.31, -0.03) and 'A Million Little Things' (0.26, -0.03) declined by the same amount. 'Home Economics' (0.28, +0.02) inched up behind a rerun of 'The Conners' (0.26). 'Chicago Med' (0.65, -0.04), 'Chicago Fire' (0.77, -0.05), and 'Chicago PD' (0.68, -0.04) all dipped on NBC. The CW's Freddie Mercury special (0.11) was a modest performer by the network's standards.

Finals Update: 'Survivor' (+0.1), 'Chicago Fire' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'The Conners' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 4/19/22: Blackish Down for Series Finale, FBI and Name That Tune Also Slide, This Is Us Easily Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Despite lasting eight seasons, spawning two spinoff shows, and having a whopping 175 episodes under its belt, ABC sitcom 'Black-ish' (0.37, -0.06) went out with a whimper on series finale night. The Anthony Anderson comedy fell by six-hundredths when compared to the episode that aired the week prior and a retrospective special that came after (0.26) was nearly the lowest-rated broadcast on the big four networks. 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.40, -0.14) slid all the way down to series low territory at 8 while 'To Tell the Truth' (0.27, -0.04) shed four-hundredths in the 10PM hour. CBS also had nothing but declines as 'FBI' (0.56, -0.07), 'FBI: International' (0.53, -0.01), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.45, -0.06) all lost some ground. NBC's 'Young Rock' (0.32, -0.09) dropped by close to a full tenth but 'Mr. Mayor' (0.29, +0.01), 'This Is Us' (0.86, +0.09), and 'New Amsterdam' (0.36, +0.02) all bested their previous installments. Fox drama 'The Resident' (0.41) held even as 'Name That Tune' (0.25, -0.08) crashed to yet another new low. The CW's 'Superman & Lois' and 'Naomi' had matching 0.07s for their respective reruns.

The Goldbergs Renewed for Season 10

One of TV's longest-running comedies, The Goldbergs, will extend its run to a milestone tenth season. The ABC comedy has long been a keystone of the Wednesday night lineup, airing as the 8 PM anchor since The Middle's 2016 departure from the lineup. Though its ratings have seen a marked decline in recent season, The Goldbergs remains ABC's #1 comedy, this season averaging 0.57 in the key 18-49 demographic. The show was the subject of controversy this season amid the surprising firing of longtime leading actor Jeff Garlin, due to alleged misconduct on the set. Garlin's ouster left the show's fate looking at least vulnerable, but ratings have more or less remained steady without him, and allowing the show to move on. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia and Sam Lerner comprise the show's leading cast. This is a correct prediction for the TV Ratings Guide.

Monday TV Ratings 4/18/22: NCIS and Bob Hearts Abishola Hit New Lows, American Idol Also Slips (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: It was an alarming night on CBS as sitcom 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.44, -0.08) and drama staple 'NCIS' (0.43, -0.11) both collapsed to new series lows. 'The Neighborhood' (0.59, -0.04) and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.39, -0.10) also crashed at 8 and 10 respectively. ABC's 'American Idol' (0.62) was six-hundredths shy of last Monday as 'The Good Doctor' (0.39) matched its week-ago outing. Dramas '9-1-1' (0.68, +0.06) and '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.58, +0.13) surged on Fox, with '9-1-1' topping the night altogether due to the 'Idol' slippage. The CW's 'All American' (0.13, +0.03) and spinoff series 'All American: Homecoming' (0.09, +0.02) rose alongside the '9-1-1' pair. NBC's 'American Song Contest' (0.27, -0.01) and 'The Endgame' (0.18, -0.03) inched down to new lows.

Sunday TV Ratings 4/17/22: NASCAR Leads Easter Sunday, AFV Surges, SWAT and NCIS: Los Angeles Climb Higher (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Fox led the way on Easter Sunday as the 'NASCAR Food City Dirt Race' (0.74) narrowly outpaced nearest competitor 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.72, +0.20). Though 'AFV' enjoyed a sizable surge, ABC's 'American Idol' (0.70, -0.03) shed three-hundredths when compared to the previous Sunday. On CBS, '60 Minutes' (0.55, -0.36) fell back down to Earth after its week-ago ratings explosion but that didn't stop 'The Equalizer' (0.56, +0.03), 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.57, +0.13), and 'SWAT' (0.48, +0.10) from making noticeable gains. On NBC, 'Weakest Link' (0.25, -0.07) and 'Transplant' (0.13, -0.07) lost seven-hundredths apiece. The 7PM rerun of 'American Song Contest' (0.13) was five-hundredths below the one from last Sunday (0.18). The CW's 'Riverdale' (0.06, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths and was followed by encores of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.06) and 'Would I Lie to You?' (0.04).

Finals Update: 'American Idol' (+0.1), 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1), 'NASCAR' (+0.1), and 'The Equalizer' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Saturday TV Ratings 4/16/22: SNL Inches Down, NBA Leads, USFL Debut Modest (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The Lizzo-hosted episode of 'Saturday Night Live' (0.84, -0.01) shed a single hundredth when compared to the previous week. Earlier in the evening, the NBC broadcast of the 'Generals v. Stallions' USFL Football match (0.23) was a full tenth below the Fox telecast (0.33). ABC's 'NBA Countdown' (0.21) made little noise at 8 but the 'Nuggets v. Warriors' game (1.33) was the top broadcast of the night. CBS's '48 Hours' (0.31, +0.03) picked up three-hundredths despite airing behind reruns of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.19) and itself (0.26). On the CW, 'Would I Lie To You?' (0.05, -0.04) and 'Masters of Illusion' (0.03, -0.05) crumbled after semi-decent debuts. The 8PM 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' rerun (0.06) bested both while the 9:30PM 'Masters of Illusion' encore (0.04) beat out the 9PM original.

Finals Update: 'NBA: Nuggets v. Warriors' (+0.5), 'USFL Football' on Fox (+0.1), and the repeat of '48 Hours' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'NBA Countdown' (-0.3) adjusted down.

Friday TV Ratings 4/15/22: Come Dance With Me Bombs in Premiere, The Blacklist Rises, Shark Tank Leads the Night (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: 'WWE Smackdown' (0.48, -0.12) suffered quite a blow on Fox and narrowly lost out to a steady edition of ABC's 'Shark Tank' (0.49). As a result, 'Shark Tank' topped the night and bested 'Smackdown' for the first time since January. At 9, the '20/20' rerun (0.31) was just three-hundredths below its week-ago original. NBC's 'The Blacklist' (0.29, +0.04) and 'Dateline' (0.47, +0.07) rose by four and seven-hundredths respectively. On CBS, reality series 'Come Dance With Me' (0.20) had very few in attendance for its series premiere and failed to outpace any offerings on ABC, NBC, or Fox. A rerun of 'Blue Bloods' (0.19) that followed was only a hundredth lower than 'Dance'. 'Charmed' (0.06) held flat on the CW as 'Dynasty' (0.03, -0.01) dropped by a hundredth.

Finals Update: 'Shark Tank' (+0.1) and 'WWE SmackDown' (+0.1) adjusted up.
