FADE IN:
INT. STUDIO - DAY
Jack, Ed, Noah, and a cast of unknown actors are in the studio to film the pilot.
JACK
We have a studio audience coming in!
FEMALE ACTOR #1
I’m nervous about that part.
ED
Everything is going to be okay. You are going to knock it out of the park.
The actors then get into their position with the studio.
The audience members come in.
Jack and Noah turn on the cameras.
Ed then calls the filming into action.
The audience cheers.
Okay, now this is the part where it becomes a show within a show.
We’re going to name the actors by the character names - Kasey, Jill, Jia, Brian, and Zach.
SEQUENCE - TECHNOLOGY STORE - DAY
It happens to be another day of work.
Oh, and it’s report card day.
We see Kevin around the cash register closing up shop.
Jia enters from the back of the room.
The kids, who are stocking shelves, grumble.
JIA
Time for the report cards!
KASEY
Are you serious Mom?
ZACH
I don’t know if there’s anything to see.
JIA
We’ll see. Zach, we’ll start with yours.
Zach hands the report card over to Jia.
Jia examines the report card carefully.
JIA (CONT'D)
And look at that, we have straight A’s!
ZACH
See, nothing to see here.
BRIAN
Zach, stop it. You worked hard. Now take the day off and go get some ice cream.
Kevin hands Zach some money for ice cream.
Zach thanks his father and gleefully leaves the store.
JIA
Now for you, Miss Jillian.
JILL
Can we view Kasey’s first?
Kasey quickly hands her report card over to Jia.
Jia examines her report card. She nods.
JIA
Not bad. A’s in honors English, honors history, math, and your elective courses. And a B+ in honors chemistry.
BRIAN
That’s a tough class, especially for a sophomore. You can ask me or your mom for help at any time. Now, take the day off and get some ice cream.
KASEY
Thanks Dad. If you need help for anything, just text me, okay?
Kasey then leaves the store with the money.
Then Jill reluctantly hands out her report card.
Jia then hangs her head in disappointment after examining Jill’s report card.
JIA
Cs, Ds, and one F.
BRIAN
What? Are you serious?
JIA
Yep.
Jill snickers in embarrassment.
BRIAN
I wouldn’t be laughing at this if I were you, Jill. We’re disappointed.
JIA
This is out of character for you, Jillian. As the oldest, you should be setting an example. These grades do not reflect who you are and what we know you are capable of.
JILL
What do you mean?
BRIAN
We hope that school becomes more of a priority for you. You may not have ice cream today. So, we will be doing something else. Did you bring your homework?
JILL
I have it half-finished, but it’s a struggle for me. It’s the class I’m failing.
BRIAN
Science class. And tomorrow, we’re going to go meet with your teacher to go over next steps.
Jill nods.
END SEQUENCE.
ED
And cut!
JACK
You guys are knocking it out of the park.
FEMALE ACTOR #2
Thanks. Hopefully this gets picked up.
On the next episode, it all comes down to this.
