Below are the latest renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2022-23 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Since the previous update, new series 'Accused' and returning drama '9-1-1: Lone Star' have entered the table. As always, only scripted programming will be taken into account in this column.
Notable Changes: In terms of Adults 18-49 averages, 'Alert' (0.41, -0.04) lost a few more ticks and fell below 'Family Guy' (0.42). Because of this and the emergence of higher-rated fare like 'Accused' and 'Lone Star', it drops down from #5 to #8 in the chart. The average of 'Fantasy Island' (0.20, +0.01) actually rose by a hundredth, meaning the drama is now only 0.01 away from 'Call Me Kat'. Despite that minor growth, the sophomore series remains in last place.
Accused: Fox gave both 'Monarch' and 'Alert' the chance to launch behind an NFL game, so it only makes sense that they would give the same opportunity to their latest effort. Crime anthology series 'Accused' made its football-assisted debut on Sunday, January 22nd with a massive 2.08 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Of course, even a one-hour loop of white noise could pull these type of numbers if positioned behind a colossal 'Cowboys v. 49ers' game (12.79). The true test for 'Accused' came on January 24th when it debuted in its Tuesday-night timeslot behind '9-1-1: Lone Star'. To the surprise of Fox executives and Nielsen aficionados alike, the series actually held its own. 'Accused' posted a solid 0.45rating for episode two and retained a healthy 79% of its 'Lone Star' lead-in. To put things into perspective, 'The Cleaning Lady' has not been able to cross the 0.40 mark this season even though it airs behind the strongest show on the network ('9-1-1'). 'The Resident', 'Monarch', and 'Alert' have also failed to come near a 0.45 for a regularly-scheduled episode. Though it could very well crumble in the coming weeks, 'Accused' is the closest thing resembling a hit that Fox has had in a while. 'Accused' is Likely to be Renewed and may be upgraded if it continues to impress.
9-1-1: Lone Star: '9-1-1: Lone Star' began season four with a phenomenal 0.57rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic and is Certain to be Renewedright off the bat. This rating is only a few hundredths lower than its average performance from last season and just about a tenth below the usual '9-1-1' episode from Fall 2022. 'Lone Star' has proven to be a strong player even without the help of its parent show. Fox has almost nothing going for it right now and there is no chance they will get rid of one of their highest-rated offerings.
Alert: Just a week prior, 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit' seemed like the textbook case of a Nielsen ratings flop that had no shot at securing a season-two pickup. However, it recently grew by seven-hundredths to a 0.29rating and built on its 'Fantasy Island' lead-in (0.24) by half a point. For reference, a November 14th episode of 'The Cleaning Lady' could only manage that same 0.29 despite having a '9-1-1' lead-in (0.68) that was nearly 200% stronger than the 'Fantasy Island' episode that 'Alert' aired after. Though this is not some exceptionally solid performance, it does show that the series may not be as doomed as it once was. 'Alert' is still Likely to be Canceled but that may change if it can keep up this sudden momentum.
Sunday Animation: 'The Simpsons', 'Bob's Burgers', and 'Family Guy' were all Renewed on January 26th for an extra two seasons. This means that 'The Simpsons' is guaranteed to run until its 36th season, 'Bob's until its 15th, and 'Family Guy' until its 23rd. None of these renewals should come as much of a shock and all three serve as correct predictions for this column. Thanks to their Sunday-night timeslots, football will continue to inflate their averages just enough in the Fall to cancel out the abysmal ratings they garner in the spring months.
This week on the NBC Renew/Cancel, a sophomore comedy enters the scene and is in desperate need of a trip to the repair show. Keep reading for my initial thoughts on American Auto.

Three of Fox's longest-running series will all be back on the schedule next season, and the season after that, as the network has ordered two additional seasons each of the Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob's Burgers. All three have been staples of the Fox schedule ever since their debuts (save for a period in which Family Guy was canceled in the early 2000s) and have performed well for them, despite hefty ratings declines in recent seasons. Even with those declines, the shows have remained particularly strong on streaming platforms, with The Simpsons being a keystone of Disney+. All three are correct predictions for The TV Ratings Guide.
CBS has completed a comedy grand slam, renewing their last remaining comedy, Bob Hearts Abishola, for a fifth season. Though the series is the lowest-rated of the network's half-hour sitcoms, it is a solid same-day performer anyway, with a 0.42 18-49 average, a performance that puts it in-line with the league average for the season. Co-created by Chuck Lorre, it was one of two of his series to survive the previous season's CBS comedy cut, which saw the cancellation of Lorre's United States of Al and B Positive and the number of comedy slots on CBS slashed from six to four. With the renewal of all four veteran comedies this year, a comedy expansion could perhaps be in the cards. Bob Hearts Abishola stars Billy Gardell, Folake Olowofoyeku, Christine Ebersole, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley, Matt Jones, Maribeth Monroe, Vernee Watson and the series' co-creator, Gina Yashere.

One of TV's top comedies, The Neighborhood, will be back for another season next year. The CBS sitcom, in its fifth season, has secured a sixth season renewal after another season of strong ratings. It currently rates as television's #4 comedy with a 0.53 in the key 18-49 demo, behind fellow CBS comedies Young Sheldon and Ghosts and ABC's The Conners, and is one of the few series to secure a hefty syndication deal in recent seasons. The series will surpass the milestone 100 episodes mark this season, and stars Cedric the Entertainer, Tichina Arnold, Max Greenfield, and Beth Behrs. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
Finals Update: NFL: Cowboys v. 49ers (+3.7), Accused (+0.4) and the repeat of America's Funniest Home Videos (+0.1) adjusted up. The OT (-0.6) adjusted down.
Below are the latest renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2022-23 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Since the previous update, only 'The Resident', 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit', and 'Fantasy Island' have aired new episodes. As always, only scripted programming will be taken into account in this column.
Notable Changes: The A18-49 ratings average of 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit' (0.45, -0.11) has declined by a little more than a full point. It drops down from #3 to #5 in the overall ranking. This freefall will likely continue given that the football-boosted premiere is inflating the show's average to a ridiculous degree.
The Resident: On January 17th, 'The Resident' finished out its sixth season with a perfectly fine 0.37rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. This serves as the drama's strongest performance since November and would generally be solid enough to justify a renewal on the Fox network. Despite those decent numbers, this series is no longer expected to return for a seventh season. For one, this season had the smallest episode count (13) that the show has had in its run. Considering that the program's 5th season had a full-order of 23 episodes, this type of reduction is clearly not a sign of encouragement for the aging veteran. On top of that,six-year contracts are the standard for regular cast-members on a television series. This means that the stars of 'The Resident' would likely have to sign new contracts for a potential seventh cycle. 'The Resident' may provide modest ratings but it is definitely not strong enough to warrant renegotiations. Filler content like 'Hell's Kitchen' and 'Name That Tune' can provide similar (or better) results at a much lower cost. 'The Resident' is now Likely to be Canceled, even though it deserves a renewal off Nielsen ratings alone.
Alert: For its third episode, 'Alert: Missing Persons Unit' held at the same putrid 0.22that it garnered for episode two. The small consolation here is that it grew by three-hundredths of a point from its 'Fantasy Island' lead-in (0.19). Though growth like that is usually a good sign, this is surely not enough to help its chances. 'Alert' is once more Likely to be Canceled and probably won't lose that distinction any time soon.
What's Next?: New drama 'Accused' debuts on Sunday, January 22nd. The fourth season of '9-1-1: Lone Star' premieres on January 24, 2023. Both dramas will enter the chart in the next update after their premiere ratings are made available.

CBS is saying farewell to one of their longest-running series, announcing today that NCIS: Los Angeles will end after its current fourteenth season. This announcement comes less than two weeks after the NCIS crossover event involving LA, which was a ratings success that saw LA hit its highest rating since April 2022. In spite of that, NCIS: LA was one of CBS's lowest ratings performers this season, ranking fourteenth among seventeen scripted programs on the Tiffany Network this season. This is not the first NCIS series to be canceled, as NCIS: New Orleans was canceled while airing in LA's current time slot just two years ago. Barring the announcement of a new spinoff, or the cancellation of a different NCIS series, next season will be the first with only two NCIS series on the CBS lineup since the 2013-14 season. NCIS: Los Angeles starred LL Cool J, Chris O'Donnell, Daniela Ruah, Eric Christian Olsen, Medalion Rahimi and Gerald McRaney. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

SEAL Team's mission on Paramount+ remains a success. The one-time CBS drama, which moved to Paramount+ in 2021 and has aired two seasons there, ranking as one of the more popular series available on the platform. Thanks to its tenure on CBS, it is the longest-running Paramount+ original, with over 100 episodes thus far. This renewal comes nearly two months after the finale of the sixth season. David Boreanaz, Neil Brown Jr, AJ Buckley, and Toni Trucks lead the cast of the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
