Tonight was a solid night at best for ABC. On the OK side, The Middle (1.9), The Goldbergs (2.0), and Blackish (1.8) were all down just a tenth from last week, with The Middle being even from last week's preliminary number. On the bright side, Nashville (1.2) rose two tenths, and may go back to the Watch column tomorrow; we'll have to wait and see. On the down side, Modern Family (2.6) is already posting numbers lower than its typical spring numbers, and may even see some low 2s by the end of the season. The Middle may even have a chance of being more-watched than it one week. Still relatively good, but is declining at a much faster rate than other veterans (aka The Middle and Last Man Standing).
Variety |
With Empire being down, so was lead-in Rosewood (1.4), which as listed in the table above rose four tenths in the half-hour. This show probably would be nothing without its monstrous lead-out. On the bright side: it still beat NBC's The Mysteries of Laura (1.0), which continues to trail significantly from NBC's other Wednesday offerings, both of which stayed steady at 1.5s from last week's preliminaries.
Survivor (2.1) remains one of CBS's unsung heroes, winning the hour for The Eye Network as usual. Also steady were Criminal Minds (1.7) and Code Black (1.2). Being only co-produced by CBS with a Criminal Minds spin-off waiting for a time slot, I can't see Code Black getting a backorder with those numbers. But at least it was steady week-to-week.
Finally, The CW continues to have a relatively good Wednesday lineup, with Arrow (0.9) and Supernatural (0.8), even though Arrow is down a couple tenths. Due to strong retention from Supernatural, The 100 may have a lot of pressure to perform well if it gets the same time slot and wants a renewal.
Late night analysis to follow.
