ABC Renews Scrubs and Shifting Gears and Passes on Comedy Pilot Do You Want Kids?

ABC's comedy department will seemingly be unchanged next season. The alphabet network has renewed both Scrubs and Shifting Gears for next season, joining the already-renewed Abbott Elementary on the 2026-27 schedule. Shifting Gears will return for its third season, while Scrubs will return for its second revival season (and eleventh overall). Both comedies were among ABC's top-rated linear series this season, with Scrubs ranking #2 (behind only Dancing with the Stars) and Shifting Gears ranking #4 for the season. Both aired shorter seasons this year in order to share the same time slot, which seems to be the plan for next season, as well, though no episode count has been announced for either show. Both series are led by well-known TV veterans - Scrubs saw the return of original stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke in leading roles, while Shifting Gears stars Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. Their renewals leaves RJ Decker as ABC's lone scripted series awaiting a pickup for next season, and both renewals are correct predictions.

ABC has also passed on their comedy pilot Do You Want Kids, led by Rachel Bloom and Rory Scovel. The pilot centered on a married couple who have a baby in one universe do not in the other, and the many ways that decision alters their lives. The project's rejection likely means that ABC comedy will again be limited to just one hour a week, making them the second network confirmed to carry a three-comedy schedule next season.

Failure to Launch: Class of ’96 (Fox, 1993)

Hello. I am Tommie and I’m always curious about failures and shows that went south (sometimes literally). Fox’s 1992-93 season is particular for many reasons, but among those is that they were trying to massively expand – going from four nights to seven. Good luck, Chuck!

Either way, here’s one of the shows Fox tried on their schedule to expand.

UFL on Fox (0.11) remained low. The American Bible Challenge (0.03, +0.01) ticked up on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

Thursday TV Ratings 4/16/26: The Hunting Party Rises Behind Repeats, Ghosts and Matlock Decline After Being Benched, Going Dutch Ties Season High [+ Analysis]

NBC drama The Hunting Party (0.19, +0.05) was able to rise markedly at ten, despite the fact that Law & Order (0.21) and SVU (0.23) were in repeat mode. Over on CBS, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (0.43, +0.05) climbed higher, but Ghosts (0.35, -0.03), Matlock (0.22, -0.01), and Elsbeth (0.15, -0.04) all declined. ABC aired repeats of 9-1-1 (0.17), 9-1-1: Nashville (0.15), and RJ Decker (0.10). On Fox, Next Level Chef (0.22, 0.00) and Animal Control (0.20, 0.00) both matched their week-ago ratings, but Going Dutch (0.19, +0.02) rose enough to tie its season high. On the CW, Scrabble (0.06, +0.01) and Trivial Pursuit (0.07, +0.01) gained a hundredth apiece. Key: (R) = repeat.

CBS Renew/Cancel Week 21: What CBS’s Fall Schedule Means for Elsbeth, NCIS: Origins, Ghosts, Matlock, America’s Culinary Cup, FBI & More + Renew/Cancel March Madness Champion Announced!

This week on the CBS Renew/Cancel, there's little to predict this season, but there's still a lot to talk about, as CBS's fall schedule has been announced, with a lot of changes ahead. Keep reading for my takes on some of the biggest moves present on the schedule, including timeslot upgrades for Elsbeth and FBI, shortened seasons of NCIS: Origins and Sydney, and Ghosts and Matlock heading to the bench.

FOX Renew/Cancel: Checking In On American Dad! + March Madness Champion Revealed!

Below are the April 19th Fox renew/cancel predictions for the 2025-26 television season. The table embedded includes the Adults 18-49 ratings average of each program. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.

After more than a decade on TBS, American Dad! officially returned to the Fox network in February 2026. On arrival, the cartoon comedy posted a relatively solid 0.21 rating and grew significantly from its Universal Basic Guys lead-in (0.13). But in its second week back, the series dropped to a 0.15 and fell behind Basic Guys (0.16). Its latest data point is somewhere in between those two performances (a 0.18 after a 0.14). As a whole, the series has been just fine as the Sunday night 9 p.m. anchor. It has certainty improved this slot significantly when compared to what The Great North and Krapopolis were doing here in spring 2025, and it appears to serve as a nice launching pad for the 9:30 Family Guy. With that said, it is still one of the lower-rated Fox shows overall, but a fall slot with some indirect football inflation could definitely change that in the future. Regardless, American Dad! has already been renewed for multiple seasons, so it will remain a fixture on the schedule.

FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness Wrap-up!

The FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness tournament is officially over. In the final match, Doc secured nearly 70% of the vote, easily defeating Bob's Burgers. That makes Doc the FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness champion of 2026!

What’s Trending on Streaming: Daily Trending Lists for Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+, HBO Max, Apple TV, Prime Video and Netflix from April 12-April 18

After a big week of streaming debuts last week, it was a more subdued week this week, allowing the recent premieres and ongoing hits a further chance to impress. Keep reading to see which shows rose to the top this week, and which shows faded out.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/15/26: MasterChef Up from Season 15 Premiere, Survivor Rises Above 1.0 for First Time in Five Years, Scrubs Ties Low for Finale [+ Analysis]

It was a monumental night for CBS as Survivor (1.04, +0.12) rose enough to put a one before the decimal point, a rarity in the modern television landscape. But despite that growth, America's Culinary Cup (0.26, -0.02) actually declined. Hollywood Squares (0.14, +0.04), meanwhile, rose. Over on ABC, Scrubs (0.39, -0.03) slipped for its finale. Abbott Elementary (0.36, -0.03) and The Greatest Average American (0.17, -0.06) were also down, but Shark Tank (0.18, +0.02) bucked the trend. NBC went with repeats of Chicago Med (0.20), Chicago Fire (0.22), and Chicago PD (0.19). The Floor (0.21, -0.05) had quite a fall on Fox, but it was still a notch above the season premiere of MasterChef (0.20). Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Tuesday TV Ratings 4/14/26: Doc Ties Series Low for Finale, The Voice Ends Steady, RJ Decker Rises in Earlier Time Slot [+ Analysis]

Fox drama Doc (0.14, -0.01) ended its second season on a low note by inching down to its previously-set series low. To put things into perspective, this rating put it closer to the CW's broadcast of WWE NXT (0.09, +0.01) than any of its other 8 p.m. competitors. NBC's The Voice (0.25, 0.00) also closed out its season on Tuesday, matching its last original in the key demo. ABC dramas Will Trent (0.28, +0.02) and RJ Decker (0.22, +0.04) were up from last week, with the latter likely benefiting from the earlier time slot. NCIS (0.29, +0.03) and NCIS: Sydney (0.16, +0.04) rose on CBS, while Origins (0.2, 0.00) was stable. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

NBC Renew/Cancel Week 24: The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is Falling + NBC Renew/Cancel March Madness Champion Announced!

This week on the NBC Renew/Cancel, I take a look at NBC's Monday night shows, which recently wrapped for the season with less-than-ideal ratings. Keep reading to see which show is due for a downgrade and which appears to be already renewed despite its ongoing troubles.

Law & Order: SVU Renewed for Season 28

NBC has confirmed the renewal of another veteran drama, a week out from the renewals of their Chicago trio. Law & Order: SVU, the longest-running drama in TV history, will be back for season 28 next year. SVU remains a top performer for NBC, especially on streaming, averaging 0.30 in the key demo this season to date. The series is having its best season on Peacock to date, up 27% from last season and consistently ranking as the service's most-watched NBC series. While only being announced today, SVU is said to have been quietly renewed for season 28 an entire year ago, having received a two-season pickup last May. That would explain why its renewal was dragged out until May last year, though why they waited until now to announce it remains to be seen. SVU stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Peter Scanavino, and Kelli Giddish, and is one of the crown jewels of Dick Wolf's TV empire. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Law & Order: Organized Crime Canceled

Elliot Stabler is back off the case. Law & Order: Organized Crime - the NBC-turned-Peacock spinoff of SVU that brought Christopher Meloni's beloved SVU character back to the Law & Order Franchise -  has been canceled after five seasons. The news comes just under a year after it debuted its first and only Peacock-exclusive season. The series had moved to Peacock following a four-season run on Thursdays at 10 on NBC. That fifth season later aired in part on Thursdays at 10, pushing The Hunting Party back to midseason after initially being on the fall schedule. NBC and Peacock had kept mum on Organized Crime's fate since then, before confirming its cancellation today. Organized Crime notably got off to a very strong start back in 2021, but faded as the seasons went on - never becoming a flop, but not being standout, either. Its most recent season averaged 0.17 in the key demo during its second-window run on NBC, ahead of The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, but behind every other NBC series this season. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Monday TV Ratings 4/13/26: WNBA Draft Rises from 2025, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins Ticks Up for Finale, The Quiz with Balls Builds On The 1% Club [+ Analysis]

On NBC, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins (0.21, +0.02) was up at eight and then rose again at 8:30 (0.24, +0.03) for its season finale. At nine, The Voice (0.25, +0.07) was also up, markedly so. On ABC, American Idol (0.45, +0.03) and The Rookie (0.22, +0.01) climbed higher. The Neighborhood (0.36, -0.01) ticked down on CBS, but DMV (0.23, +0.02) rose. Later in the night, FBI (0.25, -0.01) dipped, while CIA (0.17, 0.00) held steady. On Fox, the premiere of The 1% Club (0.19) was below last week's Extracted finale (0.24). After, The Quiz with Balls (0.25) built on its lead-in substantially. On the CW, Wild Cards (0.05, +0.03) enjoyed a finale boost. Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

CBS Announces Fall 2026 Schedule

CBS has announced their fall schedule for the 2026-27 season. It is as follows:

Crimson Crown: A Stormere Tale, Episode 6 - Broken, Forever

Sunday TV Ratings 4/12/26: Euphoria Up from Season Two Premiere but Below Finale, Marshals and Tracker Soar with Masters Lead-In, American Dad! Ticks Up After Break [+ Analysis]

Back after a four-year hiatus, HBO drama Euphoria (0.11) was up from its previous season premiere (0.08), but it was at less than half of its 2022 finale rating (0.24). On CBS, a sports-inflated installment of 60 Minutes (0.92, +0.55) helped dramas Marshals (0.67, +0.22), Tracker (0.51, +0.12), and Watson (0.26, +0.06) surge. ABC staple America's Funniest Home Videos (0.4, -0.1) lost a tenth, but Betrayal: Secrets & Lies (0.15, +0.02) continued to rise. MLB on NBC (0.38) was below the week-ago NBA broadcast. On Fox, Universal Basic Guys (0.14, -0.02) dipped slightly for its finale, while American Dad! (0.18, +0.01) ticked up. The 8 p.m. Family Guy (0.19, -0.04) was down from its last episode, but the series bounced back (0.23, +0.04) at 9:30. The CW aired the film Grown Ups (0.08). Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Saturday TV Ratings 4/11/26: Saturday Night Live Dips, UFC 327 Dominates, A Little Park Music OK on Hallmark [+ Analysis]

Saturday Night Live (0.62, -0.14) declined sharply on NBC and lost to UFC on CBS (0.8). Following UFC, 48 Hours (0.20, +0.07) gained some momentum. NHL on ABC (0.19) was only a little bit above NASCAR on the CW (0.16), while MLB on Fox (0.43) trounced both. Key: (R) = repeat.

PILOT REVISITED: Lone Star

Each week, I take a look back at a pilot from the 2010-11 season, first reviewed on my blog during that season. This week, I am looking at Fox's very short-lived Lone Star!

Friday TV Ratings 4/10/26: ABC Dominates Coverage of Artemis II Return, Fire Country Builds on Sheriff Country, Happy’s Place Ticks Up [+ Analysis]

Coverage of the Artemis II return brought some life back to broadcast on Friday night. ABC's coverage (1.85) easily led the way in the Adults 18-49 demographic, while NBC (0.73) placed a distant second. CBS (0.5) came in last among the big three, but this rating still doubled that of last week's Sheriff Country (0.25). After the coverage, NBC's Happy's Place (0.23, +0.01) ticked up, but Dateline (0.19, -0.07) plummeted. Sheriff Country (0.23, -0.02) and Boston Blue (0.17, -0.02) slipped on CBS, while Fire Country (0.27, +0.02) rose. ABC's 20/20 (0.24, +0.01) inched up. UFL on Fox (0.1) did not impress. The American Bible Challenge (0.02, -0.02) declined on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.
