Modern Family S8E8 Review

The promos this week have suggest some sort of conspiracy going on.

S8E8 "The Alliance"

This week, a secret alliance is revealed between Cam, Phil, and Gloria, and it is really funny that their line of going out to get orange juice is said by Cam while Mitch is holding the orange juice. The conversation between the three of them is entertaining, as is the flashback shown, and it sets up problems that are sure to be interesting.

It is hilarious when Gloria talks to the Russians, using phrases she picked up from Russian nannies. Mitch discovers the alliance between them, and it is very interesting as he announces it. At the end, it is also very interesting when the three reveal how they really made the vacation decision.

Haley meets Rainer Shine's daughter, which is very awkward for her. It is entertaining when she brings the daughter by Claire's office, who comments how difficult it can be to connect to teenagers. Haley ends up acting like a parent to the teenager, and it is great to see how she is a lot like Claire in this moment, as Claire has said before that Haley is similar to her.

Claire realizes that she turns to Jay for big decisions, so she decides to make a decision on her own. This is very much rooted in what is already established for Claire and Jay's relationship. It is very funny when Claire throws a sandwich in the garbage despite liking it, then taking it back out after Haley's encouragement.

This was a strong episode, with all storylines, big and small, being very entertaining, from the secret alliance to Jay and the cigar rule and Luke and the older woman.

Score: 10/10

Speechless S1E8 Review

Speechless S1E8 Review
This week Ray wants to go on a field trip, and J.J. wants to kiss the girl he met recently.

S1E8 "R-A-Y-C-RAY-CATION"

Ray has a field trip coming up, and he has to be on time, so the family does practice runs. This is very funny, because the family is terrible at getting out of the house quickly. The funniest is the third practice run, when the family is actually going to be on time, but then they decide to stop for breakfast. In the real thing, Ray ends up choosing J.J. over the field trip, and they have a great conversation.

J,J, finally asks Claire, the girl in the wheelchair, out. It is pretty funny when he tells his parents, and then very funny when Maya decides she wants to help. Ray pretends to be Claire to practice purposes, which is hilarious. It is very sad, however, when the real date doesn't end the way J.J. had hoped. Ray helps J.J. get to the hospital, and Dylan has a hilarious line about what the boys would do to Emma Watson.

Dylan predicts what toy will be popular every year, so that Jimmy can buy many of these and then sell them for a higher price, but she no longer is able to predict, because she has grown up. Due to this realization, she has a great line about watching Scandal. Dylan eventually tells Jimmy this, and it is pretty funny when he then reveals many of the creepy toy she chose in his closet.

Ray and J.J. had especially strong stories this week, and Dylan's was very entertaining as well. This was the best episode yet of Speechless.

Score: 9.5/10

It has been announced that (per the Futon Critic) ABC's new drama series, Conviction, will make the move to Sundays at 10 PM starting January 1st. The series will end after 13 episodes, and it was previously announced that
current Sunday at 10-occupant Quantico will move to Conviction's current slot. Conviction has struggled in its current slot, and the move to Sunday will likely not benefit it.

TV Ratings 11/27/16: Once Upon a Time Rises, Ice Age Improves 7 PM Slot for Fox (UPDATED!)

Sunday was a pretty average night for ratings, with most shows only down or up a tenth or even with last week. CBS's 60 Minutes was down the most, with a three tenth drop. Madam Secretary and NCIS:LA dropped a tenth each. On ABC, we saw the returns of Once Upon a Time, Quantico, and Secrets & Lies. Once Upon a Time was the only show among those to improve versus its last airing. On Fox, the 8-10 time-slots were repeats, but Bob's Burgers was new at 7:30, and it was even. Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas received a 1.0, up from the 0.5 for a Simpsons repeat in the slot last week. On NBC, Sunday Night Football was down, pending updates. Ratings for Elementary will be available in the final ratings.

FINALS Update: Madam Secretary (+0.1), NCIS: Los Angeles (+0.1), 60 Minutes (+0.5), a Son of Zorn repeat (+0.1), Sunday Night Football (+0.4), and NFL Overrun (+0.8) adjusted up. Football Night in America (-0.6) and the Ice Age Christmas special (-0.2) adjusted down.

Fresh Off the Boat S3E6 Review

This week, Jessica and Evan go to Costco, which I have been very excited about.

S3E6 "WWJD: What Would Jessica Do?"

Jessica picks Evan up from school, and they are excited about Evan getting a Costco card. It is very funny when they go to Costco, as they are very excited about the deals, and make the most out of the trip by reading, trying on sunglasses, and more. Meanwhile, Louis gets his teeth cleaned by Marvin, and Marvin whitens his teeth, which Louis doesn't like.

Evan goes to church with his friend, and it is funny how Jessica is upset about going to Costco alone. There is also a hilarious flashback where Louis considered converting to Mormonism. Jessica is very funny when she goes to Costco alone, missing Evan while he is there. Jessica sees Evan praying, and there is a hilarious line from Louis what Evan is doing in his room. It is then hilarious when Jessica pretends to be God.

Eddie chips his tooth, and there are some funny jokes playing with the 4 out of 5 dentists idea. Jessica realizes that church is Evan's Costco, and it is very funny when a person plays religious sounding music in the aisle. At the end, Evan ends up going to Costco one week because of something new they got.

Jessica and Evan's story was great, but I didn't see the need for Louis's story.

Score: 8.5/10

The Middle S8E7 Review

After last week's surprising cliffhanger when the show got serious, I am very excited to see what happens next.

S8E7 "Look Who's Not Talking"

Frankie is very happy about a new store opening with low prices, which is really funny, but sadly she isn't happy for long, because of Axl not talking to them. She tries to write an email to him, but she struggles with the tone, which is very funny. Frankie has a very funny line after a funny picture of a carrot she sends to Axl doesn't get a response. Mike goes to talk to Axl, and it results in Axl not talking to any of them.

Brad visits Sue, which is very entertaining. It is very fun to see them catching up. He tells her about New York, and she tells him about what's going on with Axl. It is also very funny when Sue has to deal with the temporary room she's staying in, where she isn't allowed to decorate, but her and Brad do anyway. It is then hilarious when Sue meets the other people in the room. Brad reveals to Sue that he dropped out of NYU. Brad and Sue then have a great conversation about this, and I am excited that it's looking like we are going to get more Brad soon.

Frankie and Mike discover that Brick has a new tick, where he sings a jingle from a commercial, going "You're going to love our pizza." He is also unaware of this tick. There is a very funny conversation he has with his old middle school counselor. It turns out Brick needs to have more fun, so at the end of the episode the family has fun, but it isn't really a happy ending, with Axl still not talking to them.

This episode did a great job of carrying on last week's story, and it had wonderful moments with Brad and Sue. This is the best episode of the season so far, and one of the best episodes of The Middle in recent years.

Score: 10/10
