It's been a quiet week on streaming, with Christmas keeping most broadcast shows off the air and few ongoing streaming or cable originals. As such, the rich just get richer, with few new entries coming in to displace them, while cheerful holiday programs also enter on a few services.
Friday TV Ratings 12/27/24: CBS Takes Last Among the Big 4 with Grammy Greats and Greatest @HomeVideos, College Football on ESPN Leads, WWE SmackDown Rises [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: On a rather uneventful Friday night, college football on Fox (0.55) was the highest-rated of the pack on broadcast television. On ABC, 20/20 (0.17) fell behind a repeat of High Potential (0.19), just like The Year did on Thursday. Reruns of Happy's Place (0.21), Lopez vs Lopez (0.15), and Dateline (0.14) made up NBC's schedule. On CBS, The Greatest @Home Videos (0.17) and Grammy Greats (0.15) performed poorly. Inside the NFL (0.05, +0.01) ticked up on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.
Thursday TV Ratings 12/26/24: The Year 2024 Sinks Below 2023 Rating, College Football Leads, Trivial Pursuit Finale Ties Series High [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: On the day after Christmas, there was little interest in the 2024 installment of ABC's The Year (0.19). The annual recap special dropped from the rerun of High Potential (0.22) that led into it and was more than a full tenth below the 2023 installment (0.30). NBC re-aired Hot 10 of 2024 (0.25) and Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas (0.14). Repeats of Ghosts (0.21/0.17) and Matlock (0.12) aired on CBS. Fox went with encores of Hell's Kitchen (0.11/0.12). Over on the CW, Scrabble (0.07, +0.03) jumped for its finale, and Trivial Pursuit (0.09, +0.03) also soared. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Wednesday TV Ratings 12/25/24: How the Grinch Stole Christmas Rises from 2023, NBA Triples Previous Christmas Game [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: NBC continued its Christmas tradition of airing both the 1966 Grinch cartoon (0.28) and the 2000 feature film (0.40). The latter was up slightly from last year (0.38), while the cartoon was down a bit from 2023 (0.32). On ABC, the Lakers v. Warriors NBA game (1.32) topped the night, but the Nuggets v. Suns game (0.60) dropped dramatically from there. CBS re-aired NCIS (0.20/0.17/0.18). Fox went with another Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular encore (0.12). The CW had another round of acquired sitcom reruns (0.04/0.05/0.04/0.03). Key: (R) = repeat.
Tuesday TV Ratings 12/24/24: It’s a Wonderful Life Down from 2023, Home Alone Dominates, The Price Is Right At Night Low [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: On Christmas Eve, ABC's broadcast of Home Alone (0.63) topped the night and was only down a tiny bit from last year (0.65). NBC's showing of It's a Wonderful Life (0.37) placed second in the 8 p.m. time slot, dropping more from its 2023 airing (0.42) than Home Alone did. CBS aired Christmas with Andrea Bocelli and Friends (0.18), an uncharacteristically weak Price Is Right At Night (0.20), and a repeat of Nate Bargatze's Nashville Christmas (0.18). Fox re-aired LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular (0.11). WWE NXT (0.14, -0.02) slipped on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

Ratings Analysis: On an otherwise quiet night, ABC's telecast of the Saints v. Packers NFL game (1.37) was the highest-rated offering among the major broadcast networks. On NBC, a repeat of A Saturday Night Live Christmas (0.33) matched Wednesday's original airing. CBS aired encores of The Neighborhood (0.24), Poppa's House (0.20), NCIS (0.16), and NCIS: Origins (0.15). Fox went with reruns of Kitchen Nightmares (0.18/0.17). The ceremony was a complete eyesore in the retention department, holding just under 30% of the CBS newsmagazine staple. Over on Fox, The Simpsons (0.26, -0.14) dropped but avoided hitting a new season low. At 9, The Great North (0.16) underwhelmed in a one-off showing, falling behind a repeat of Basic Guys (0.17). On ABC, Tim Allen film The Santa Clause (0.28) performed well enough. NBC's NFL game (4.07) was a few ticks behind last week's. Ratings Analysis: In its last episode of 2024, NBC's Saturday Night Live (0.70, +0.09) gained some visible momentum, but it was ABC's college football game (2.49) that led the way on broadcast. On Fox, the USC v. UConn women's college basketball game (0.56) excelled in the Adults 18-49 demographic. 48 Hours (0.15, -0.03) dropped again on CBS. At 9, Nate Bargatze's Nashville Christmas (0.32) performed reasonably well, but Elsbeth (0.20, -0.03) still dropped to a new series low at 10. On ABC, The Great Christmas Light Fight (0.24, +0.01) inched up for its finale and led into a 20/20 special about Luigi Mangione (0.21). Ratings Analysis: CBS's Survivor (0.80, +0.12) jumped to a new season high on finale night, making it the top-rated program of the evening by far. On Fox, The Masked Singer (0.36, -0.04) dropped for its finale, but The Floor (0.35, +0.03) was up for its season closer. The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball (0.28) was a passable performer on ABC but lost to NBC's Saturday Night Live Christmas Special (0.33). Fox had less NFL help than last week, so Universal Basic Guys (0.56, -0.31) took a hit, but The Simpsons (0.40, -0.03) was barely down at all at 8:30. In the 9 p.m. hour, Bob's Burgers (0.33, +0.05) and Krapopolis (0.20, +0.04) managed to gain a few ticks. On ABC, The Sound of Music (0.22) was a tenth below its year-ago showing (0.32). Earlier in the night, the network's broadcast of Saturday Night's Main Event (0.42) was strong but slightly below ABC's NBA Cup (0.47). On CBS, a repeat of Nugget Is Dead? A Christmas Story (0.14) appeared to weigh down 48 Hours (0.18, -0.05). College basketball (0.34) was relatively solid on Fox. Earlier in the evening, SWAT (0.34, +0.05) and Fire Country (0.33, +0.02) also rose. After riding the Rudolph high last week, Happy's Place (0.25, -0.13) and Lopez vs Lopez (0.17, -0.09) dropped back down to normal levels on NBC. Dateline (0.19) grew slightly from there. On ABC, Shark Tank (0.29, -0.02) and 20/20 (0.24, -0.03) slipped. College basketball (0.19) did not move the needle on Fox. Thursday TV Ratings 12/12/24: Billboard Music Awards Abysmal in Move to Fox, Ghosts Tumbles to New Series Low, Matlock and Georgie & Mandy Also Drop [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: Fox's broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards (0.17) was a total dud in the key demographic, only managing to place fourth in the 8 p.m. time slot. On NBC, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (0.36) remained healthy in its second 2024 showing, but the E! News special that followed (0.18) retained just half of its lead-in. On CBS, Georgie & Mandy (0.39, -0.04), Ghosts (0.36, -0.08), and Matlock (0.32, -0.05) all declined, but Elsbeth (0.23, 0.00) held steady. The Great Christmas Light Fight (0.23, -0.02) dipped on ABC. Fox's The Masked Singer (0.40, +0.06) soared, but The Floor (0.32, -0.03) slipped. ABC went with game show reruns (0.25/0.21/0.20). Sullivan's Crossing (0.06, 0.00) held steady for its CW finale. Ratings Analysis: Fox special The Real Full Monty (0.15) was a clear disappointment in the Adults 18-49 demographic but still improved on last week's TMZ's Merry Elfin' Christmas (0.10). On CBS, The Neighborhood (0.28, -0.09), Poppa's House (0.25, -0.09), NCIS (0.24, -0.14), and Origins (0.19, -0.06) all plummeted to new lows. ABC's Bengals v. Cowboys NFL game (1.60) was the clear winner on broadcast television. The Voice (0.41, -0.01) and Brilliant Minds (0.20, -0.05) declined on NBC. The CW's broadcast of Best Christmas Movies Ever! (0.05) was modest.

Ratings Analysis: An extended break did nothing to help Saturday Night Live (0.55, -0.09), as the NBC sketch-comedy staple dropped to an all-time low. The Peacock network began the night with low-rated repeats of Dateline (0.11/0.14) and SNL itself (0.18). College football on CBS (2.45) nearly doubled ABC's college football game (1.32). ABC Renew/Cancel Week 9: Happy Holidays for Abbott Elementary
It's the final ABC Renew/Cancel of 2024. It's been an odd year, filled with shortened, strike-delayed seasons and another cut to ABC's list of scripted offerings, including a comedy lineup that almost vanished entirely. One constant has been Abbott Elementary, which takes the spotlight this week, as it headed into a holiday break.
