Ratings Analysis: NBC continued its Christmas tradition of airing both the 1966 Grinch cartoon (0.28) and the 2000 feature film (0.40). The latter was up slightly from last year (0.38), while the cartoon was down a bit from 2023 (0.32). On ABC, the Lakers v. Warriors NBA game (1.32) topped the night, but the Nuggets v. Suns game (0.60) dropped dramatically from there. CBS re-aired NCIS (0.20/0.17/0.18). Fox went with another Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular encore (0.12). Earlier in the night, the network's broadcast of Saturday Night's Main Event (0.42) was strong but slightly below ABC's NBA Cup (0.47). On CBS, a repeat of Nugget Is Dead? A Christmas Story (0.14) appeared to weigh down 48 Hours (0.18, -0.05). College basketball (0.34) was relatively solid on Fox. The Peacock network began the night with low-rated repeats of Dateline (0.11/0.14) and SNL itself (0.18). College football on CBS (2.45) nearly doubled ABC's college football game (1.32). ABC Renew/Cancel Week 9: Happy Holidays for Abbott Elementary
It's the final ABC Renew/Cancel of 2024. It's been an odd year, filled with shortened, strike-delayed seasons and another cut to ABC's list of scripted offerings, including a comedy lineup that almost vanished entirely. One constant has been Abbott Elementary, which takes the spotlight this week, as it headed into a holiday break.
