Friday TV Ratings 9/29/23: Shark Tank Returns Up From Finale, WWE SmackDown Easily Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: For its fall premiere, ABC's 'Shark Tank' (0.37) was up by two-hundredths when compared to its May season finale (0.35). '20/20' (0.29) dipped from there but still beat out the premiere of NBC's 'Dateline' (0.25) head-on. In fairness, 'Dateline' had less lead-in help than its newsmagazine rival since it aired after an 8 p.m. rerun of 'The Voice' (0.22) instead of an original broadcast. On CBS, 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.16, -0.06) collapsed on finale night and led into more encores of 'Fire Country' (0.12) and 'Blue Bloods' (0.13). Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.60, -0.03) shed a few ticks but maintained its dominance. The CW's broadcast of 'Miss USA 2023' (0.10) performed better than the network's usual fare.

Finals Update: ‘WWE SmackDown’ (+0.1), ‘Shark Tank’ (+0.1), ‘Secret Celebrity Renovation’ (+0.1), and ‘Dateline NBC’ (+0.1) adjusted up.

Fox Renew/Cancel Week 1: Snake Oil Will Slither On

Predictions for 09/30/23

Below are the latest renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2023-24 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has risen or fallen when compared to its average from the previous season. Because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there is a limited amount of scripted programming this fall. As a result, reality television will now be included in this column.

Krapopolis: Fox Renewed 'Krapopolis' for a second and third season before it even premiered, so its performance in the ratings is mostly irrelevant to its fate. However, that does not mean the animated sitcom is off the hook. Fox could still decide to reverse their decision or boot it to Hulu if the numbers become a problem. The series ultimately launched with 0.88 rating on Sunday, September 24th but lost a huge chunk of the rating that 'The OT' (3.09) put up thirty minutes prior. With a lead-in of that size and a persistent marketing campaign, it is not a good sign that 'Krap' could not even clear the 1.0 threshold for its first night, especially since 'The Simpsons' went as high as a 1.3 with a similar lead-in in fall 2022. An uninspiring showing like this spells doom for the future of 'Krap'. It may make it through its three-season order, but it probably won't last past that.

The Masked Singer: Though it is a shell of what it used to be in terms of Nielsen strength, 'The Masked Singer' remains near the top of the pack. A 0.54 rating is higher than almost everything else on the Fox network and close to what the reality series put up in the spring. This series is already Renewed

Snake Oil: On premiere night, game show 'Snake Oil' came in with a healthy 0.39 rating and retained a bit over 70% of its 'Masked Singer' lead-in. This is an adequate start and enough to place the series in the Likely Renewal category. Though there could very well be a steep drop in week two, 'Snake Oil' begins on solid footing.

Kitchen Nightmares: 'Kitchen Nightmares' returned to the Fox network for the first time in almost a decade with a passable 0.35 rating. Since this is a Gordon Ramsay show with name recognition, it begins as a Certain Renewal. The ratings could definitely be better, but this is perfectly fine for Fox standards.

Special Forces: 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test' (0.33) had very strong retention of its lead-in on premiere night, retaining nearly 95% of 'Kitchen Nightmares' for its return. Though it is not certain to come back, this is a sufficient start. The series sits comfortably in the Likely Renewal category...for now.

Hell's Kitchen: Though it has been a staple on the Fox network for years, 'Hell's Kitchen' began the season with a modest 0.29 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. If not for the Gordon Ramsay association, this might have been cause for concern. But, it's very unlikely that Fox would get rid of a long-running staple from Ramsay's corner. 'MasterChef' also had an underwhelming debut in the summer but finished its season with a new high. Even if 'Hell's Kitchen' does not follow that path, it is still a Certain Renewal

LEGO Masters: Though it currently resides near the bottom of the chart, 'LEGO Masters' has already been Renewed for a fifth season. The reality-competition series returned with a feeble 0.24 rating on Thursday night and went below the one-million mark in total viewers. The ratings are clearly below average, even by Fox standards, but the network sees value in the program nonetheless.

Name That Tune: 'Celebrity Name That Tune' began the season with a meager 0.20 rating and then dipped to a 0.19 the week after. It is the lowest-rated of the current crop of Fox shows and is therefore Likely to be Canceled. These numbers are simply not tolerable for an 8 p.m. anchor on Tuesday nights. Fox has also not provided 'Tune' with a companion and is instead pairing it up with reruns of '9-1-1: Lone Star'. This is a possible sign that 'Tune' is not as much of a priority to them when compared to their other offerings.

Thursday TV Ratings 9/28/23: The Golden Bachelor Starts Strong and Leads the Night, Bachelor in Paradise and LEGO Masters Return to Lows, Big Brother Drops in Timeslot Shift (Final Ratings)

Ratings Analysis: 'The Golden Bachelor' had an incredibly successful launch on ABC, topping the night in both the Adults 18-49 demographic (0.63) and in total viewers (4.36 million). 'Bachelor in Paradise' (0.38) was not nearly as strong at 9 p.m. and lost out to CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.53, -0.12). 'Brother' was down by more than a tenth from last week but also had a lousy lead-in from 'Buddy Games' (0.23, -0.04). 'The Challenge: USA' (0.24, -0.01) shed a hundredth at 10. On Fox, 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.29) and 'LEGO Masters' (0.24) had particularly lackluster starts to the season, with 'Masters' setting a new low. NBC got decent mileage out of the 'People's Choice Country Awards' (0.31), but those viewers did not stick around for a pilot encore of 'The Irrational' (0.15). 'Fight to Survive' (0.05, +0.03) was up significantly for its finale on the CW. 'FBoy Island' (0.04, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths in the 9 p.m. time slot.

Home Economics Canceled After Three Seasons, High Potential Pushed To Next Season

ABC is foreclosing on Home Economics, canceling the series after three seasons. The series saw a small ratings bump this season, rising a single percent to a 0.35 18-49 average, but that rise was not enough considering its strong lead-in, ABC's buzzy new hit Abbott Elementary. Its streaming performance was also among the weakest of any ABC series this season. The third season ran for only thirteen episodes, leaving the schedule midseason to make room for Not Dead Yet. Also working as a potential roadblock was the fact that ABC doesn't fully own the series, only co-producing it alongside Lionsgate. Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza and Sasheer Zamata star in the series, which aired its series finale on January 18th after a 42-episode run. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Additionally, upcoming new drama High Potential has been delayed to fall 2024 due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It was originally ordered to air in the 2023-24 TV season.

NBC Renew/Cancel Week 1: A Renewal for The Irrational Would Not Be Irrational

In one of the most unusual premiere weeks in recent memory, NBC debuted just one scripted show this week. It was also the only scripted show to premiere on the Big Four this week, as dual Hollywood strikes led to production being shuttered on all scripted programs, and only previously-produced scripted shows will air this fall. With the WGA strike ending this week, and SAG potentially ending soon, The Irrational may soon have some company in the scripted arena. For now, though, read on for my prediction of one of this fall's only new dramas.

Wednesday TV Ratings 9/27/23: Snake Oil Off to Respectable Start Behind Slipping Masked Singer, Survivor Returns Higher in First 90-Minute Episode, Celebrity Jeopardy Weakens (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: David Spade-hosted 'Snake Oil' (0.39) got off to a respectable start on the Fox network and held onto 72% of the rating that 'The Masked Singer' (0.54) posted. 'Masked Singer' itself returned a hundredth lower than its May finale (0.55) and was the second highest-rated program of the night. On CBS, 'Survivor' (0.84) had a monstrous premiere that placed it over 20% above its finale (0.69). 'The Amazing Race' (0.36) dropped significantly from there and could not even retain half of 'Survivor'. ABC's 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' (0.46) was noticeably lower than it was in the early months of 2023 but higher than last September (0.42). 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.40) was seven-hundredths lower than both its fall 2022 premiere and spring 2023 finale. In the 10 p.m. time slot, 'The $100,000 Pyramid' (0.31, 0.00) was on-par with what it posted a month prior. On NBC, 'America's Got Talent' (0.48, -0.03) dropped for its finale and had a clip show of itself (0.38) as its lead-in. The CW had reruns of 'The Swarm' (0.05) and 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.04).

Finals Update: 'The Amazing Race' (+0.1), 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' (+0.1), and 'America's Got Talent' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 9/26/23: Dancing with the Stars Strong in Return to ABC, The Voice Steady, Celebrity Name That Tune Slips (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Moving a reality staple with high ratings to Disney+ seemed like a grave error from the start, but ABC corrected this mistake on Tuesday night by bringing 'Dancing with the Stars' (0.64) back to broadcast television for the first time in nearly two years. The move clearly paid off as 'Dancing' was the highest-rated program of the evening and proved that there is still an audience for it on traditional TV. Though the series did drop 31% from its September 2021 premiere (0.92), this performance is still remarkable given how much ratings have declined as a whole since 'Dancing' last aired. The alphabet network closed out the night with a 'Celebrity Family Feud' rerun (0.33). NBC's 'The Voice' (0.60, 0.00) was even with Monday's premiere and led into 'America's Got Talent' (0.56, 0.00). 'Talent' was steady with last Tuesday. On Fox, 'Celebrity Name That Tune' (0.19, -0.01) lost a hundredth and led into another repeat of '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.13). 'Inside the NFL' (0.06, -0.01) and 'The Swarm' (0.05, -0.02) slipped on the CW. CBS re-ran 'FBI' (0.22), 'FBI: International' (0.18), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.14).

Finals Update: 'Dancing With the Stars' (+0.1) and 'America's Got Talent' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Premiere Monday TV Ratings 9/25/23: The Irrational and Kitchen Nightmares Have Decent Starts, The Voice Slightly Down from Spring Premiere (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC drama 'The Irrational' (0.34) got off to a passable start on series debut night, retaining more than half of 'The Voice' (0.60) on this first evening. 'The Voice' itself was about a tenth lower than its spring premiere (0.69) but remained in solid shape nonetheless. On Fox, 'Kitchen Nightmares' (0.35) and 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test' (0.33) both looked quite solid for their premieres. 'Special Forces' in particular was up by two-hundredths from its March finale (0.31). On ABC, the 'Eagles v. Buccaneers' NFL game (3.88) was about three-tenths lower than last week's 'Brown v. Steelers' (4.16). On the CW, 'Son of a Critch' (0.06, +0.02) grew, 'Run the Burbs' (0.03, -0.01) dipped, and 'Children Ruin Everything' (0.03, 0.00) held steady. The 9:30 p.m. 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' rerun (0.03) was on par with 'Burbs' and 'Children'. CBS re-ran 'NCIS' (0.22/0.18/0.18).

Finals Update: 'Sportscenter' (+0.3) and 'NFL: Eagles v. Buccaneers' (+1.1) adjusted up. 'The Voice' (-0.1) and 'The Irrational' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Sunday TV Ratings 9/24/23: Krapopolis Off to Mediocre Start, Yellowstone Drops, Kerry Washington Special Low (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: New animated series 'Krapopolis' (0.88) made its debut in mediocre fashion on Fox, with the program retaining less than 30% of 'The OT' (3.09). Though this rating is on-par with what 'The Masked Singer' (0.87) did with a direct football lead-in, 'Masked Singer' had significantly less help from 'The OT' (1.87) on that evening. Considering that 'The Simpsons' is regularly at a 1.0 rating or higher with similar-sized assistance, this is not an encouraging showing for a series premiere. The 9 p.m. hour was occupied by a rerun of 'The Masked Singer' (0.28), while 'NFL Overrun' (6.49) held down the 7 p.m. time slot. Without massive NFL help, '60 Minutes' (0.61, -1.12) and 'Yellowstone' (0.40/0.37) plunged to a much lower level. 'Yellowstone' was roughly three-tenths behind last week's network debut (0.67). In comparison, the 10 p.m. 'Big Brother' (0.46, -0.03) was only a bit below its week-ago episode. ABC's special about actress Kerry Washington (0.12) underwhelmed in the 10 p.m. time slot. The 7 p.m. 'Global Citizen Festival' (0.12), the rerun of 'AFV' (0.19), and the encore of 'Step Into...The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough' (0.11) did not do much better. On NBC, the 'Steelers v. Raiders' game (5.58) was slightly below last week's 'Dolphins v. Patriots' (5.63). 'The Chosen' (0.04, +0.01) picked up a hundredth on the CW and led into a repeat of 'The Swarm' (0.03).

Finals Update: The 9 PM episode of 'Yellowstone' (+0.1), 'Big Brother' (+0.1), 'NFL: Steelers v. Raiders' (+1.3), 'NFL Overrun' (+2.6), 'The OT' (+0.8), and 'Krapopolis' (+0.2) adjusted up. 'Football Night in America' (-0.8) and '60 Minutes' (-0.2) adjusted down.

The Bullpen Season 6 Episodes 7 & 8: The Fourth Inning

Saturday TV Ratings 9/23/23: Ohio State/Notre Dame Game Dominates College Football-Heavy Night, Texas/Baylor Game Gives ABC Second (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC's 'Ohio State vs. Notre Dame' college football game was the night's top broadcast in both the Adults 18-49 demographic (2.52) and in total viewership (9.98 million). ABC settled for a distant second with its 'Texas v. Baylor' game (0.74 rating/2.63 million viewers). CBS had ABC beat in viewers with 'IA v. Penn St.' (2.75 million) but was two-tenths below in terms of Nielsen ratings (0.54). Fox's 'OR St. v. WA St.' broadcast (0.29 rating/1.48 million viewers) took fourth. The CW's 'GA Tech v. Wake Forest' match-up (0.06) was not even remotely competitive and went below half a million in total viewership.

Finals Update: 'College Football: TX v. Baylor' (+0.2), 'College Football: IA v. Penn St.' (+0.1), and 'College Football: OH St. v. Notre Dame' (+0.5) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: ABC's '20/20' (0.30) was up by five-hundredths when compared to last week and was the top program aside from Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.63, -0.07). 'Smackdown' itself dropped by several ticks but remained in the lead. A rerun of 'Shark Tank' (0.28) aired before '20/20' and performed significantly better than last week's 'Soul of a Nation' special (0.16). 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.22, +0.01) gained a hundredth on CBS and led into repeats of 'Fire Country' (0.15) and 'Blue Bloods' (0.16). Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.65, +0.01) was a hundredth higher than last Thursday for a double eviction episode, but 'Buddy Games' (0.27, -0.02) and 'The Challenge: USA' (0.25, -0.03) shed a few ticks. On ABC, 'Generation Gap' (0.33, +0.04) and 'The Prank Panel' (0.22, +0.01) improved for their respective finales. The 10 p.m. 'Shark Tank' rerun (0.15) was three-hundredths lower than last week's. Fox's 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (0.27, 0.00) was on-par with the week prior. NBC aired repeats of 'Password' (0.26) and 'American Ninja Warrior' (0.16). 'Fight to Survive' (0.02, -0.02) and 'FBoy Island' (0.02, -0.01) dipped on the CW.

Wednesday TV Ratings 9/20/23: MasterChef Ends on a Season High, Big Brother Down from Last Wednesday, Superfan Sinks for Finale (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Fox staple 'MasterChef' (0.44, +0.06) finished strong by soaring to a new season high on finale night. 'America's Got Talent' (0.51, +0.10) grew by a full tenth on NBC and led into reruns of 'Night Court' (0.23/0.16) and 'Chicago PD' (0.14). CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.67, -0.08) was down when compared to last Wednesday and was followed by an abysmal 'Superfan' finale (0.15, -0.04). The 10 p.m. rerun of 'So Help Me Todd' (0.10) settled for last place in its time slot. ABC re-ran 'The Conners' (0.21/0.21/0.20/0.19) ad nauseam and topped it off with an encore of 'The Rookie' (0.12). The CW went with repeats of 'The Swarm' (0.03) and 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.05).

Finals Update: 'Big Brother' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 9/19/23: Celebrity Name That Tune Returns Low, Celebrity Family Feud Rises for Special Airing, The Swarm Ticks Up (Final Ratings)

Ratings Analysis: It was an abysmal start to the season for 'Celebrity Name That Tune' (0.20) as the Fox game show returned with a new series low out the gate. This rating is more than a full tenth below what the series garnered the last time it aired (0.33) and does not bode well for the program's future. After 'Name That Tune' came a rerun of '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.14). ABC's 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.45, +0.08) rose significantly for its finale on a special night. 'Feud' led into repeats of 'Jeopardy! Masters' (0.30) and 'The Chase' (0.28). On NBC, 'America's Got Talent' (0.55, -0.03) declined by three-hundredths when compared to last week's installment and was followed by a 'Quantum Leap' rerun' (0.20). On CBS, many of the viewers who watched the 'FBI' encore (0.26) departed when 'FBI: International' (0.17) came on but some returned for 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.20). 'Inside the NFL' (0.07, +0.01) and 'The Swarm' (0.07, +0.01) gained a hundredth apiece on the CW.

Monday TV Ratings 9/18/23: Academy of Country Music Honors Weak, American Ninja Warrior Special Decent, NFL Jumps (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The 'Browns v. Steelers' NFL game (4.16) impressed on ABC by going more than a full point higher than the week-ago 'Bills v. Jets' match-up (2.41) in the Adults 18-49 demographic. On NBC, an 'American Ninja Warrior: Couple's Special' (0.27) was four-hundredths lower than last week's 'Warrior' finale but still topped all non-football offerings. The 10 p.m. hour was occupied by a rerun of 'Weakest Link' (0.16). Fox's broadcast of the 'Academy of Country Music Honors' (0.15) attracted very little fanfare. 'Son of a Critch' (0.04, -0.01) and 'Children Ruin Everything' (0.03, -0.02) slipped on the CW, but 'Run the Burbs' (0.04, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths. The 9:30 p.m. 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' repeat (0.03) was a hundredth short of last week's. CBS went with more encores of 'The Neighborhood' (0.25), 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.19), 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.13), and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.12).

Finals Update: 'NFL: Browns v. Steelers' (+1.1) adjusted up.

It's an unprecedented season of TV, as nearly all scripted shows have been left off the networks' schedules amid two ongoing entertainment industry strikes. NBC is the only network with original, non-imported scripted shows on their lineup, with veterans Quantum Leap and Magnum PI and new shows The Irrational and Found making their fall slate after the network made early preparations in the event of a strike. Keep reading for my initial predictions for every scripted show expected to air on NBC this season, while keeping in mind that the lengthy of the strike may impact whether some of these shows even air at all in this upcoming season.

Sunday TV Ratings 9/17/23: Yellowstone Below Last Sunday’s Big Brother In CBS Premiere, Sunday Night Football Slips (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: A monstrous 'NFL Overrun' (7.07) on CBS was able to boost the season premiere of '60 Minutes' (1.73) to lofty heights. At 9, the network television debut of drama 'Yellowstone' (0.67) left much to be desired. Though this is a solid number at face value, 'Yellowstone' lost more than a full point from '60 Minutes' and fell short of the week-ago 'Big Brother' (0.82). 'Big Brother' itself (0.49) struggled in a later time slot. On NBC, the 'Dolphins v. Patriots' SNF game (5.63) was solid but seven-tenths below last week's 'Cowboys v. Giants' game (6.32). Fox re-ran 'The Great North' (0.19) for the first time in several months after the program was entirely absent from the summer lineup, this time placing it in the undesirable 7 p.m. time slot. It appears the network made the correct decision to omit 'North' as the encore fell behind reruns of 'Bob's Burgers' (0.25/0.20), 'The Simpsons' (0.25), 'Family Guy' (0.24/0.20). ABC had repeats of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.28/0.29/0.18/0.11). 'The Chosen' (0.03, -0.01) ticked down on the CW and was followed by another 'World's Funniest Animals' encore (0.03).

Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' (+2.2), '60 Minutes' (+0.5), 'Yellowstone' (+0.2), and 'NFL: Dolphins v. Patriots' (+1.2) adjusted up. 'Football Night in America' (-0.8) and the repeat of 'The Great North' (-0.4) adjusted down.

Saturday TV Ratings 9/16/23: 48 Hours Returns Down, Pittsburgh/West Virginia College Football Game on ABC Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC led the way on Saturday night with its 'Pittsburgh v. West Virginia' college football game (0.56). Fox could only manage half of what the alphabet network put up with its 'TCU v. Houston' match-up (0.28). NBC came very close to Fox with its 'Syracuse v. Purdue' game (0.26). On CBS, a rerun of 'NCIS' (0.18) led into the premiere of '48 Hours' (0.22/0.19). The newsmagazine program was on the lower-end of its usual delivery but built on its lead-in nevertheless. 'Great Chocolate Showdown' (0.05, +0.01) inched up on the CW but lost out to one of the two 'Masters of Illusion' repeats (0.06/0.05) that aired after it.

Finals Update: 'College Football: Pittsburgh v. WV' (+0.2), 'College Football: Syracuse v. Purdue' (+0.1), and the 9 PM repeat of 'Masters of Illusion' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Friday TV Ratings 9/15/23: WWE SmackDown Jumps, Secret Celebrity Renovation Also Ticks Up, Soul of a Nation Special Flops (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: After dealing with some rough declines, 'WWE Smackdown' (0.70, +0.17) bounced back in a big way on Fox. The wrestling series was easily the night's top program as nothing else even managed a 0.3 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. CBS's 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.21, +0.04) gained a few hundredths and led into reruns of 'Buddy Games' (0.15) and 'Blue Bloods' (0.11). ABC's "Latin Music Revolution" edition of 'Soul of a Nation' (0.16) performed only slightly better than the week-ago 'Will Trent' encore (0.15). At 9, '20/20' (0.25) was once more the second highest-rated offering of the evening. NBC had repeats of 'America's Got Talent' (0.17) and 'Dateline' (0.23). The CW's showing of 2000 film 'Bring It On' (0.09) was rather solid by the network's standards.

Finals Update: 'WWE SmackDown' (+0.1) and 'The Latin Music Revolution: A Soul of a Nation Presentation' (+0.1) adjusted up.

The Wonder Years Canceled by ABC

Some not-so-wonderful news for the only live-action scripted show on the Big Four this summer: ABC has canceled its 1960s-set sitcom The Wonder Years after two seasons. Odds for a third season pickup seemed slim for the show ever since they left it off their midseason schedule, and it became obvious just how little they cared about it when they decided it to burn it off in the summer rather than holding it to air in the fall, even amid a writers' strike that completely shut down production of scripted programming. The ratings for the first season made it a questionable renewal to start with, and a 54% drop to a 0.21 average in season two did nothing to convince them to pick it up. A reboot of the 1980s series of the same name, The Wonder Years was narrated by Don Cheadle and starred EJ Williams, Dulé Hill, Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki and Milan Ray. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Thursday TV Ratings 9/14/23: Buddy Games Struggles in Premiere, Generation Gap Slides, The Challenge: USA Also Down (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Though 'Big Brother' (0.64, +0.03) was a bit higher than it was last Thursday, new  series 'Buddy Games' (0.29) got off to a rocky start on CBS. The reality-competition series retained less than half of its 'Big Brother' lead-in and was only a hundredth above the 10 p.m. installment of 'The Challenge: USA' (0.28, -0.04). On ABC, 'Generation Gap' (0.29, -0.02) dropped by two-hundredths for its first original episode in three weeks. At 9, 'The Prank Panel' (0.21, -0.07) crashed to a new series low after being off the air for nearly a month. A rerun of 'Shark Tank' (0.18) occupied the 10 p.m. time slot. 'Fight to Survive' (0.04, 0.00) and 'FBoy Island' (0.03, 0.00) were both steady on the CW. Fox had little luck with 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (0.27). NBC had repeats of 'Password' (0.19) and 'America's Got Talent' (0.17).

Finals Update: 'MLB: Regional Coverage' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Wednesday TV Ratings 9/13/23: Big Brother Rises from Last Wednesday in Two-Hour Episode, America’s Got Talent Slides (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.75, +0.07) was up significantly from last Wednesday for a special, two-hour episode. The 10 p.m. rerun of 'So Help Me Todd' (0.19) topped its hour, even as it lost nearly 75% of the 'Brother' rating. NBC's 'America's Got Talent' (0.41, -0.10) was not as lucky as 'Big Brother' and shed a full tenth when compared to last week. After 'Talent' came repeats of 'Night Court' (0.18/0.14) and 'Chicago PD' (0.13). Fox's 'MasterChef' (0.38, +0.02) continued rising higher and came within striking distance of 'Talent'. ABC had encores of 'The Conners' (0.27/0.21/0.22/0.19) and 'The Rookie' (0.15). The CW re-ran the premiere of 'The Swarm' (0.06) and 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.08).

Finals Update: The 8 PM repeat of 'The Conners' (+0.1) and the repeat of 'The Swarm' (+0.1) adjusted up.
