'The Carmichael Show' Canceled By NBC After 3 Seasons

NBC has canceled The Carmichael Show after three seasons. The series followed Jerrod Carmichael and the rest of his family as they took on controversial topics through humor. The cast was made up of Jerrod Carmichael, playing himself, Amber Stevens West, Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish, Loretta Devine, and David Alan Grier. There were talks about the series being in renewal limbo due to cast options expiring, and things ended up not working out due to Jerrod Carmichael leaving the series. This ultimately sealed its fate. The latest season of The Carmichael Show is currently averaging a 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic. Despite the timeslot downgrade and having to air in the summer, the series is down just 13% from last year. This was a correct prediction by the TVRatingsGuide. Here are the full ratings below.

'Dear White People' Renewed For Second Season

Netflix has renewed 'Dear White People' for a second season. The first season consisted of 10 episodes and was based on the feature film with the same title. The series follows students of color facing cultural bias and injustice at a predominantly white Ivy League college. Logan Browning, Brandon Bell, Antoinette Robertson, Ashley Blaine Featherson, and Jemar Michael star in the series.

Sporcle TV Quizzes of the Week- Cop Shows Edition/Sporcle Contest Season 2 Part 3

It's the third week of the second season of the Sporcle Quizzes of the Week! It's Cops week, and each quiz will focus on cop shows, including both comedies and dramas. Here we go!

1)- 8 to 1 Television Cops by Show
This was a nice little challenge, and a change of pace from the picture quizzes I typically feature. It was pretty fun, and included Brooklyn Nine-Nine and SVU, two shows that I love. Another great thing about it is that you don't need to know every show to play it, since it's multiple choice.
My Score: 19/36

2)-  50 Years of TV Cops
While I love a good change of pace from the typical picture quizzes I include, I always love a good quiz with pictures. So here's this week's picture quiz. Here, you'll have to name the shows when given a picture of a main character that is a cop. It's nice because it mixes the classical "police shows" with some non-cop shows that just feature a cop character. It's a great quiz because really anyone can play it.
My Score: 16/20

3)- Cop Show Match
This quiz is partly knowing the shows, and partly just pure logical guesswork. Some of these shows are classics, while others are relatively obscure. It's an interesting quiz nonetheless, and one that I can't believe I got 100% correct on. I haven't even heard of a lot of these!
My Score: 50/50

For those new to the Sporcle Quizzes of the Week, or those that need brushing up, to participate, just play all three quizzes and comment your scores on each.

TV Ratings 6/29/17: Battle of the Network Stars Doubles Boy Band, Zoo Tanks (UPDATED)

It was a pretty decent night for broadcast, with one new series having a solid start and a veteran show returning to save its network's Summer. CBS' Big Brother was the biggest thing in town last night, down a tenth from its premiere to a 1.6, well above anything else airing on Thursday. Things did not go so well for its lead-out, Zoo. The show was down three tenths from last year's premiere despite a much higher lead-in. This isn't promising for the show at all. ABC had a pretty high-profile debut, with Battle of the Network Stars having its series premiere (well, kinda) last night. It doubled its Boy Band lead-in, which was a low 0.5, to place at 1.0 and tie for second for the night. The Gong Show was steady in week 2. Fox's reality duo came down to Earth this week after a solid week last week, with Beat Shazam going fractional and Love Connection slipping two tenths. The results are still fine, but they're less impressive than previous outings. NBC's Hollywood Game Night and the Wall were both steady with last week's finals but up from prelims. The Night Shift ticked up to a still-low 0.7.

Finals Update: A repeat of Supernatural (-0.1) adjusted down.

World of Dance Renewed by NBC for Season 2

NBC has renewed their hit new reality series World of Dance for a second season. The dance series, starring Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough as judges and Jenna Dewan-Tatum as host, has averaged a 1.96 so far this season, holding onto much of its AGT lead-in and improving the slot of last season's occupant Maya & Marty. For these reasons, this decision is no surprise to anyone. This is a correct decision for the TV Ratings Guide. Below are ratings for the show's first season:

TV Ratings 6/28/17: Big Brother Down from 2016 Debut, The F Word, Carmichael, Forever Young Dip (UPDATED)

It was a rough night to not be CBS last night, as long-running hit series Big Brother returned to rescue CBS from Summer obscurity. The series debuted at 1.7, down two tenths from 2016 but still a very strong result. It was a huge improvement on the repeats CBS had been programming there, and it was 7 tenths above its closest competitor. Its closest competitor was MasterChef, which was unaffected by the return of Big Brother. MasterChef's lead-out, The F Word, was down to a rough 0.6. It's the second newbie reality on Fox to dip to 0.6 this week, which isn't exactly promising for the network. On NBC, Forever Young was down a tenth to 0.9, which is an okay but not great result for the new show. The Carmichael Show also ticked down, tying its season low. The CW had anemic repeats as usual, with ABC repeats all down by at least one tenth each. The lower ABC repeats led into another low episode of To Tell The Truth.

Finals Update: A repeat of American Housewife (+0.1) adjusted up.

F Is For Family Renewed by Netflix for Season 3

Netflix has ordered a third season of their adult animation comedy F is for Family. The second season was released late last month, and this pickup isn't really all that surprising. The series stars Bill Burr and Laura Dern as the parents of a family in the 1970s. Season 2 consisted of 10 episodes, though no episode order for the third season has been announced. It's also unknown when the season will be released.

What do you think of this renewal? Let us know in the comments below!

TV Ratings 6/27/17: Downward Dog Hits New Low for Finale, Bachelorette Hits Series Low, iZombie Steady (UPDATED)

It was an off night for a lot of show, with many dipping in the demo to hit or tie new season lows. The Bachelorette on ABC hit a new series low with a 1.2, a terrible number by the show's own standards but a great number for pretty much any other Summer show. It led into a horribly low 0.5 and 0.4 for the last two episodes of Downward Dog. On NBC, America's Got Talent dipped to 2.4, two tenths below last week but double anything else that aired in that time slot last night. World of Dance ticked up at 10, and it continues to be the standout newbie of the Summer. The CW's iZombie aired its final episode of the season last night, and it was steady at 0.3. Fox and CBS had repeats that were steady with last week.

Finals Update: NBC had some mixed results in the Finals as America's Got Talent (+0.1) adjusted up, but World of Dance (-0.1) adjusted down.

Sporcle Off-Topic Quizzes of the Week- History Edition/Sporcle Contest Part 1 (UPDATED)

Welcome to the series premiere of the Sporcle Off-Topic Quizzes of the Week. Here' you'll find quizzes on anything from Movies to Science! This week's topic is one that I've long found fascinating: History. Let the games begin!

#1- Female U.S. Senators (Picture Click)
This first quiz is my personal favorite non-TV quiz I've ever made. While I'm fascinated by all of History and Politics, I'm particularly interested in the Senate. Women in Government is also an interesting topic to me, so I combined two of my interests with this quiz. While I'd love to take credit for the whole quiz, the idea to make it a "Picture Click" was the idea of Sporcle's history editor, needapausebutton. Without him, this quiz would look totally different.

#2- US Presidents
If you've only played one History quiz on Sporcle, this is likely the one. With over 7 million plays, this quiz is by far the most played History quiz on Sporcle. And in this case, quantity (of plays) does equal quality. It's a quiz that can be very easy if you're a history buff and very difficult if you don't follow the presidents very closely. Either way, you should be able to get a few answers.
My Score: 45/45

#3- Original UN Members
I'm no expert on the UN, and I really don't know very much about it. I don't even really know the current members, so this was a challenge for me. For some reason, it didn't strike me to just start naming any country until about halfway through this. Nevertheless, I still found this quiz interesting, and it gave a snapshot of the UN from way back in 1945.
My Score: 31/51

RESULTS:
1- JB, 120 points
2- Game of Thrones PT, 75 points
3- Miguens, 53 points

TOURNAMENT

For those new to the Sporcle Quizzes of the Week, or those that need brushing up, to participate, just play all three quizzes and comment your scores on each.

Jess's Take: Freeform's Woes, Plus MTV Loses to Deprioritized VH1

Hello folks! Welcome to a long overdue installment of Jess's Take. The Monday cable ratings are out, and I have plenty to say about what goes on in cable.

Just How Low Can Freeform Go?
Last night, Shadowhunters scored a 0.25 and Stitchers scored a 0.14 in the adults 18-49 demographic. Considering this, Shadowhunters is a weak lead-in. While most of Freeform's lower tier shows are scoring in the 0.1 range, let this fact sink in. The network will be losing Pretty Little Liars, their highest rated show.

I can say this: the prognosis for this "Becomer" network is not looking good. Even if the focus is turned to streaming, a 0.1 or less is not even going to cut it. But with Beyond already renewed, how in the world would Freeform cut ties with its lower tier? I just don't see a clear way out of the ratings abyss.

MTV vs. VH1: Some Ratings Data
Here is some ratings data from both last night's ratings from VH1 and MTV.

Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta - 1.30
Basketball Wives - 0.93
Daytime Divas - 0.39

Teen Mom - 0.75
My Super Sweet 16 - 0.28
Promposal - 0.15

It looks like VH1 is the clear winner in last night's cable ratings. But in the context of this, how in the world can a deprioritized network win over one of Viacom's core six networks?

Earlier this year, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish named MTV as one of the six core networks along with BET, Comedy Central, Nick, Nick Jr., and Spike TV (which will be renamed the Paramount Network come January). As a result, networks like CMT, VH1, and TVLand were deprioritized. Clearly, the results are showing.

For MTV, here's the simple fact. When you are losing to VH1, you definitely need to rethink your programming choices. It's not even going to bode well for the upcoming Throwdown Thursdays lineup. The jury is still out on how Wild 'n Out will do, but based on the ratings of the last three episodes of season 8 (0.19, 0.17, 0.16), I think that it will pull 0.1-0.2 ratings, especially since it moved to 11pm. 11pm may have worked fine on MTV2 for the Nick Cannon hosted show, but it's a death sentence on MTV. We'll see what happens.

Stay tuned for more installments of Jess's Take in the coming weeks and check out more TV Ratings Guide articles for more in-depth analysis, ratings reports, and more!

Better Call Saul Renewed For Fourth Season

AMC has renewed Better Call Saul for a fourth season. The latest season of the series averaged a 0.59 in the 18-49 ratings and 1.65 million viewers. While it was down 34% from the previous year, it remains a solid performer for the network. The series is a crime drama that stars Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Rhea Seehorn, and Patrick Fabian.

What do you think of this news? Will you be watching season 4 of Better Call Saul? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Summer Renew/Cancel, Week 6: The Night Shift Is Likely to Be Discharged

Salvation (July 2017)
Marlon (August 2017)
Hooten & the Lady (July 2017)
Zoo (June 2017)
SNL Weekend Update Thursday (August 2017)

The Night Shift: This medical drama returned this week with a dismal 0.6. This is really bad for an unowned series that took quite some time to get renewed last season. While it still theoretically could tick up to a decent number, the prognosis is bad on this one. It isn't going to be easy for it to get a renewal. It's also pretty far from syndication, so I'm not sure how badly Sony is going to push for this one. It's LIKELY TO BE CANCELED.

Still Star-Crossed: While ABC isn't outright saying it, this show is a cancelled. The show is being moved to Saturdays, where it will die. There is no chance of a renewal at this point. I'm considering it  DE FACTO CANCELED

Downward Dog: Despite doing respectable numbers for its first few weeks and finding a pretty loyal audience, this ABC sitcom has unfortunately been taken to the pound by ABC. It has been CANCELLED after one season leaving fans (like myself) devastated.

Stay tuned next week and every Tuesday after that for my initial predictions on Zoo, which starts its third season later this week.

What do you think of my predictions? Let me know in the comments below.

TV Ratings 6/26/17: Ninja Warrior Steady, Bachelorette Stumbles, Family Feud Repeat Triples Still Star-Crossed (UPDATED)

Monday night saw some declines, but the most notable of those is the Bachelorette. ABC's Monday anchor dipped two tenths to a new season low, which helped American Ninja Warrior beat it for the first place crown last night. It wasn't all bad news for ABC, though. A repeat of Celebrity Family Feud did better than anything Still-Star Crossed, Conviction, Big Fan or Quantico did in that slot this season. It's a great result for the network, and they've been rewarded with the swift (though some may say not swift enough) yanking of Still Star-Crossed.  As mentioned before, NBC's American Ninja Warrior edged out The Bachelorette for first last night, as it remained steady at 1.5. Its lead-out Spartan did well again, but not quite as well with a one tenth decline. Fox's SYTYCD was finally down to 0.8, which is likely still enough to score it a renewal. Superhuman stayed steady at a mediocre-but-fine 0.7. The CW remained steady despite Whose Line? not even airing an original, and CBS saw small declines as Man With a Plan and Mom repeats both came in at 0.6 vs. last week's 0.7s.

Finals Update: It was a huge adjustments day as Superhuman (-0.1), Spartan (-0.1), both Whose Line? repeats (-0.1 each), a Supergirl repeat (-0.1), a Kevin Can Wait rerun (-0.1), and a Life in Pieces repeat (-0.1) adjusted down.
