INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Andrew and Edison walk out of their rooms. Megan is cooking breakfast which includes bacon, sausage, eggs, and pancakes.
ANDREW
Are you cooking?
MEGAN
Consider this a thank you for choosing me as your new roommate. Don’t get used to it.
EDISON
Is that a crêpe?
MEGAN
I didn’t know what you two liked so I kinda just made a spread.
ANDREW
Oh... well thank you. To be honest, we’ve been surviving on hot pockets and milky ways.
MEGAN
Well lucky for you two I can cook.
EDISON
Just another reason why you were the right choice to be our new roomie.
MEGAN
Everything’s done. Dig in. I’m gonna go take a shower.
Megan leaves the kitchen.
EDISON
What did I say man. She’s perfect.
ANDREW
Just because she can cook doesn’t mean I like the fact that you’re just trying to get with her.
EDISON
Andrew. My friend. Don’t you care about my happiness?
ANDREW
Do you care about mine?
EDISON
Don’t ask stupid questions.
Megan enters the kitchen wearing nothing but a bath towel.
MEGAN
Do y’all have any body wash other than “Hardcore Bod”?
ANDREW
Sorry no.
EDISON
That shampoo is guaranteed to give you muscles and make you smell like a champ.
MEGAN
Uh huh. Ok.
Megan leaves.
EDISON
Did you see that?
ANDREW
What?
EDISON
She was totally hitting on me.
ANDREW
I worry about you.
Andrew and Edison eat breakfast.
EDISON
Hey, you know what we should do?
ANDREW
What?
EDISON
We should throw a party.
ANDREW
Why?
EDISON
To celebrate our new apartment.
ANDREW
This wouldn’t be a ploy to hit on Megan would it?
EDISON
That would be an added benefit.
ANDREW
I don’t know.
EDISON
Come on. You promised me that we would have parties.
Andrew contemplates.
ANDREW
Ok fine. But we need to ask Megan. She is after all our roommate.
Megan enters wearing a fresh set of clothes.
EDISON
Megan.
MEGAN
Yes?
EDISON
How would you feel if we threw a party?
MEGAN
Any particular thing we’re celebrating?
EDISON
No.
MEGAN
Then I’m in.
EDISON
Fantastic! Ok ok. Food will be easy to get. Alcohol on the other hand...
MEGAN
I can get the alcohol.
ANDREW
How?
MEGAN
I have ways.
EDISON
Wonderful. I need to send out invites. So much to do, so little time.
Edison rushes out of the kitchen and into his room.
MEGAN
What’s his deal?
ANDREW
I’ll let you know when I find out.
INT. LIBRARY - DAY
Andrew and Gabby sit at a table studying.
ANDREW
Hey uh Edison, Megan, and I are throwing a small party tonight. You want to come?
GABBY
Sounds great. Is Sarah gonna be there?
ANDREW
I invited her but I think she’s busy.
GABBY
What happened between you two? Are you still friends?
ANDREW
We’re just both busy with classes.
GABBY
Ah I see.
ANDREW
Megan’s gonna be there. I think you’ll like her.
GABBY
I’m sure I will.
INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT
The party has begun. The apartment is flooded with people. Alcohol and food are everywhere. The music is loud. Andrew and Gabby enter the apartment.
ANDREW
What the hell?
GABBY
I thought you said it was a small party?
ANDREW
That’s what I thought.
Edison and Megan emerge from the crowd.
ANDREW
What the hell is this?
EDISON
The party.
ANDREW
This isn’t a party this is a rave.
MEGAN
Which is just another word for party.
ANDREW
How many people did you invite?
EDISON
From which university?
ANDREW
How many universities did you invite?
MEGAN
Five.
ANDREW
Five!
EDISON
We’re gonna let everyone know that we’re party central. People are gonna be talking about this party for weeks. They’ll be like “Man dat party tho!”.
ANDREW
Are you drunk already?
EDISON
A little…
ANDREW
This... is not cool.
EDISON
Relax Andrew. For once in your life let loose. Here.
Edison hands him a cup of alcohol.
ANDREW
What’s this?
EDISON
Liberation.
Andrew looks at Gabby.
GABBY
You should let loose.
Andrew looks at the cup and drinks it.
MONTAGE
-Andrew drinks more alcohol while dancing with Gabby.
-Edison flirts with Megan and stays close to her.
-The partygoers continue to dance.
Edison and Megan are in Edison’s room getting more alcohol.
EDISON
So, did you invite your boyfriend?
MEGAN
I don’t have a boyfriend.
EDISON
I see. You know, I don’t have a girlfriend either.
MEGAN
Really? You?
EDISON
Yeah.
MEGAN
Well, girls are missing out.
Edison leans in to kiss Megan.
MEGAN
What are you doing?
EDISON
Uhhhhhh. I thought we were gonna kiss.
MEGAN
Why would you think that?
EDISON
Do you not feel the chemistry between us?
MEGAN
There’s no chemistry.
EDISON
What makes you say that?
MEGAN
I’m a lesbian.
EDISON
I thought you were American?
MEGAN
No, I mean I’m attracted to girls.
EDISON
Oh. Uhhhhh I’m sorry.
MEGAN
No no I’m sorry if I gave any indication. It’s just, I thought you knew. I told Andrew.
EDISON
You told Andrew?
MEGAN
He said he would tell you.
EDISON
He knew?!
Edison turns and leaves his bedroom. He enters the living room. Andrew is drinking another cup of beer. Edison approaches him.
ANDREW
Edison! You were right, I needed to let loose.
Edison punches Andrew. Andrew falls to the ground.
EDISON
You knew Megan was gay and you didn’t tell me?! You knew I was looking for a girlfriend! You knew what I was going through after Brittaney!
Andrew stands up.
EDISON
You’re supposed to be my friend.
Edison leaves.
LATER
The party has died down. People are leaving.
EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - NIGHT
Edison is sitting on a bench outside the apartment complex. Andrew joins him. They sit in silence.
ANDREW
I didn’t tell you about Megan being a lesbian because you were happy when you didn’t know. You were so happy and I didn’t want to ruin that. Especially because of the way you were after Brittaney left. I’m so sorry. I should've told you.
EDISON
I understand. I’m actually glad I know. Now I can move on to another girl.
ANDREW
There he is.
Andrew and Edison laugh.
EDISON
Sorry about punching you.
ANDREW
No problem. Gabby says that she actually finds it sexy.
EDISON
You two are so weird.
ANDREW
I’m gonna go start cleaning up.
Andrew stands up and leaves. Megan sits down next to Edison.
MEGAN
Did you two make up?
EDISON
Yeah.
MEGAN
I’m sorry. I should have told you myself.
EDISON
No it’s fine. Sorry about hitting on you.
MEGAN
It’s fine. Look if you need a wing woman or someone to help you pick up girls, I’m your gal.
EDISON
My gal pal?
MEGAN
If that’s what you want to call it.
EDISON
Let’s just say friends.
MEGAN
Ok... friends.
END.

ABC Renew/Cancel Week 2: Emergence Emerges as ABC’s Most Likely Cancellation

It's been a few weeks since my last update to the ABC Renew/Cancel, and it feels like a good time to check in on all of the network's shows. It's been a busy period, filled mostly with ratings declines, and I have a few updates. Stay tuned to see which shows are on the move!

Certain Cancellation:
N/A

Likely Cancellation:
Emergence (0.6)
Fresh Off the Boat (0.4)

Leans Cancellation:
Bless This Mess (0.8)
Single Parents (0.7)
Stumptown (0.6)

Leans Renewal:
Schooled (0.8)

Likely Renewal:
American Housewife (0.6)
A Million Little Things (0.8)
Mixed-ish (0.8)
The Rookie (0.6)

Certain Renewal:
Black-ish (0.7)
The Conners (1.2)
The Good Doctor (0.9)
The Goldbergs (1.0)

Already Renewed:
Grey's Anatomy

Already Canceled/Final Season:

Coming Soon:
The Baker & The Beauty
For Life
Station 19
United We Fall

Emergence: It had a relatively decent start, but as I predicted in my first renew/cancel, Emergence suffered a big drop in week two and another in week three. Now it's at 0.5. It was steady in week four, which is one of the very few positive signs for it, but I really doubt that this will be enough to save it. Ratings are low in general now, but  It will probably last for 13 episodes or get a short backorder before it's off the ABC schedule for good by early 2020. I'm downgrading it to a LIKELY CANCELLATION.

Fresh Off the Boat: Putting aside the drama surrounding the show following tweets by star Constance Wu, this always seemed like it would be the end of the road for Fresh Off the Boat. While it wasn't really all that strong last season, it did enough to get by on a network that clearly wanted a Friday comedy block. This season, it's expectedly down as it moved away from the 8 PM timeslot (which gave it a local programming lead-in), though it's doing about the same as Speechless did in the slot. Considering the big year-to-year declines across broadcast, I'd say that it's stronger than Speechless, not that that says too much given how Speechless turned out. Ultimately, the ratings are probably just too low for it to continue given how old it is and how ready to move on some members of the cast seem to be. It's being downgraded to a LIKELY CANCELLATION.

The Rookie: In the only positive movement of the week, The Rookie sees a bump up to LIKELY RENEWAL. While 0.6 isn't a massive number, it's holding all of Shark Tank (or even gaining a few hundredths) in one of the worst slots on all of broadcast. ABC didn't seem to have much faith in the show with this move, but it's holding its own and performing as well as ABC could ask of it. It's hard to see it not making it to season three at this point.

What do you think of my predictions? What are your predictions?  Let me know in the comments and don't forget to vote in the poll of the week!

CBS Extends the Orders of New Comedies and All Rise

Along with the renewal of Evil, CBS has extended the orders of the rest of its newbies. Comedies Bob Hearts Abishola, Carol's Second Act and The Unicorn and drama All Rise have all been extended. None of these shows have been particularly strong performers for CBS, but all have been steady. Aside from Bob Hearts Abishola, all have remained within a tenth of the rating they premiered with. The network has three new shows on the bench, and with four of five new shows now receiving extensions, where those three shows will land doesn't seem too clear. The four shows extended today are the second new shows to receive a backorder, behind Fox's Prodigal Son. Though the length of these extensions haven't been announced yet, Deadline reports that. Bob Hearts Abishola is the only show of the bunch to receive a full back-nine, with the other three receiving five each.

What do you think of this news? Which of these extensions are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments below!

Evil Renewed for Season 2

CBS has issued its first renewal of the 2019-20 season, with newbie drama Evil scoring an order for season two. It will join Mom and Young Sheldon next season on the Eye network, meaning that much of the network's Thursday lineup has been renewed just a month into the season. The supernatural drama series created by Robert and Michelle King has aired just four epsidoes so far and is averaging a 0.6, putting it in the bottom half of the new series this year, though it airs in a harder slot than most. Last Thursday, the series hit a new high of 0.7, holding 100% of its Carol's Second Act lead-in. The show will run for thirteen episodes for its first season, just like the first renewed new show of season, Bless The Harts. Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson and Christine Lahti star in the series.

What do you think of this news? Will you be tuning in to season two of Evil? Let us know in the comments below!

"O Sister, Where Art Thou"

Written by

William Fry

INT. AIRPORT/LONDON - DAY
Ava and her sister CALEY stand at an airport terminal hugging. They end their hug.
AVA
Call me as soon as you land. Ok?
CALEY
Ok.
AVA
And no frat parties. I know what those American boys do.
CALEY
I'm going to be fine.
AVA
I know.
CALEY
I need to get going.
AVA
Yes, yes of course. Have fun.
CALEY
Bye.
Caley and Ava hug. Caley boards the plane.
FOUR MONTHS LATER
INT. AVA’S TENT - DAY
Ava wakes up. Hendricks is laying next to her. He is asleep.
EXT. ARMY CAMP - DAY
Ava and Frank are shooting at mannequin targets in a field. Frank hits a mannequin in the head.
AVA
You're getting better.
Frank smiles.
FRANK
I've gotten used to the gravity.
Hendricks appears.
HENDRICKS
You still need to improve your stance.
Hendricks pulls out his pistol and shoots two mannequins in the center of the head.
FRANK
Remind me not to piss you off.
HENDRICKS
Will do. See you tonight doc.
Hendricks leaves
FRANK
I think he's warming up to me.
AVA
I think you're right.
FRANK
Are you two... you know?
AVA
Yes. Yes we are.
FRANK
I'm learning something new everyday.
EXT. DESERTED ROAD - DAY
An army Humvee drives down a deserted road. A young woman runs into the middle of the road. It is Caley. The Humvee screeches to a stop. Two soldiers exit the vehicle
SOLDIER
Are you ok?
CALEY
Help me.
EXT. ARMY CAMP - DAY
Frank and Ava walk back to the camp. Hendricks runs up to them.
HENDRICKS
We found a survivor! Ava... it's Caley.
PAUSE
Ava begins to run. She reaches the camp. Caley has a jacket around her.
AVA
Caley?!
CALEY
AVA?!
Ava runs to Caley and hugs her. They begin to cry tears of joy.
AVA
I knew you survived. I knew it. What happened to you?
CALEY
Me and some of the other students took shelter at the university. We stayed there for a few weeks but the zombies got in. After that, we started moving from place to place.
AVA
So there are others?
CALEY
I got seperated. A horde cornered us. I’m the only one who got away.
Ava and Caley hug each other tighter.
INT. MEDICAL TENT - DAY
Ava tends to Caley’s scratches and bruises.
AVA
So, did you go to any parties?
CALEY
Yeah.
Ava chuckles.
Hendricks enters.
HENDRICKS
Hey Caley. My name's Hendricks. If you’re up for it, I’d like to ask you a few questions.
AVA
I think that can wait.
HENDRICKS
If there are other survivors out there, I need to know so that we can save them.
Ava and Hendricks give each other conflicting looks.
CALEY
It's fine Ava.
Ava nods.
HENDRICKS
How big was your group?
CALEY
About ten to twenty of us. All from the university.
HENDRICKS
Where did you get separated?
CALEY
Some library by the highway. We hunkered down there for a while. We had plenty of food and supplies. Then... they came out of nowhere. There were so many of them. Took us by surprise. Killed so many of us. I saw an exit and escaped. Last thing I saw was the group fighting the hoard. I've been walking around since.
HENDRICKS
When you're feeling better, I'd like you to escort my unit to that library. So we can see if anyone survived.
CALEY
Of course.
HENDRICKS
(To Ava)
See you tonight?
AVA
Yeah.
Hendricks leaves.
CALEY
Are you two… you know?
Ava rolls her eyes.
CALEY
He's hot.
Ava and Caley laugh.
THE NEXT MORNING
EXT. LIBRARY - DAY
Two military humvees pull into the abandoned parking lot of a library. Zombie bodies litter the parking lot.
Frank, Ava, Caley, Hendricks, Dion, and the soldiers exit the humvees.
HENDRICKS
Dion. Ava. Frank. You three stay here with Caley. We'll look inside and see if anyone is still there.
Hendricks and the soldiers enter the library.
CALEY
So you’re an actual astronaut?
FRANK
Yep.
CALEY
See any aliens?
FRANK
No. No I didn’t. But I saw the Aurora Borealis once. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen.
DION
So no aliens. Not even a spaceship?
Everyone laughs.
INT. LIBRARY - DAY
Hendricks and the soldiers walk around the library. It is littered with the bodies of zombies and humans. Hendricks leans down next to a human body. The body has a gunshot wound to the head.
EXT. LIBRARY - DAY
There is a sound near some dumpsters.
FRANK
Zombie?
DION
Let's check it out.
Frank and Dion walk over to the dumpsters out of sight. They approach a dumpster. Their guns raised. A raccoon pops out.
DION
Fucking hell.
Cut to Ava and Caley.
CALEY
How's home?
AVA
It's gone.
CALEY
Mom and Dad?
AVA
They didn't make it. I'm sorry.
CALEY
I figured as much.
Ava and Caley hug. Frank and Dion return. Hendricks and the soldiers exit the library.
HENDRICKS
No one in there but dead zombies and humans. If there was a group here, they're gone. I'm sorry Caley.
CALEY
They might still be alive.
AVA
Of course.
The unit gets into the humvees and drives away.
A college age man appears watching the humvees driving away. He is surrounded by other college age students.
INT. AVA’S TENT - NIGHT
Ava tucks Caley into bed and leaves.
EXT. ARMY CAMP - NIGHT
Ava exits her tent. Hendricks is waiting for her.
HENDRICKS
Did your sister say anything else about what happened?
AVA
No. Why?
PAUSE
HENDRICKS
There were human bodies in the library.
AVA
So?
HENDRICKS
They weren’t killed by zombies. They were killed by bullets.
AVA
What are you saying?
HENDRICKS
I don’t think your sister is being entirely truthful about what happened.
AVA
Did it ever occur to you that those people killed themselves in order to avoid turning into a zombie? You're the soldier after all.
Ava goes back into her tent. Hendricks walks away looking back at the tent with suspicion.
LATER
EXT. ARMY CAMP - NIGHT
Everyone is asleep except for a few guards walking around the camp. Caley exits her tent and sneaks out of the camp. She enters the woods and walks for some time. She reaches a clearing. A group of young men and women emerge from the woods and surround her.
END.
