The Bullpen Season 4 Episode 9: Robert’s First Game

Friday TV Ratings 7/30/21: Tokyo Olympics Hit New Low, Burden of Truth Steady in Return, Love Island Down (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: The 'Tokyo Olympics' (2.3) suffered quite a blow on Friday night, dropping by nine-tenths from the rating it managed the day prior. This may still be a winning number for NBC, but the decline does signal a sign of audience fatigue. On Fox, 'WWE Smackdown' (0.5) matched the preliminary rating it garnered seven days ago and was easily the top non-'Olympics' broadcast. CBS's 'Love Island' (0.3) shed a tenth from Thursday's episode but was even with its previous Friday outing. A stable 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.2) and a 'Blue Bloods' rerun (0.2) sandwiched the reality series. Repeats of 'Shark Tank' (0.3) and '20/20' (0.3) were on-par with their week-ago ratings on ABC. The CW's 'Burden of Truth' (0.1) was steady in its season premiere, followed immediately after by a flat edition of 'Dynasty' (0.1).

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics (+0.3), WWE SmackDown (+0.1) and the repeat of 20/20 (+0.1) adjusted up. Dynasty (-0.1) adjusted down.

Thursday TV Ratings 7/29/21: NBA Draft Bombs, Olympics Tick Back Up, Big Brother Stable (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: The 'Tokyo Olympics' (3.2) rebounded on NBC, rising five-tenths from the previous day's rating. This ultimately puts the ceremony back where it was before the slippage. CBS was unchanged from last week's ratings with 'Big Brother' (0.9), 'Love Island' (0.4), and a 'Bull' encore (0.2). The '2021 NBA Draft' (0.3) completely tanked on ABC, going well below what the 2020 'Draft' posted on ESPN (1.1/0.67/0.39). Fox chugged along with middling reruns of 'Beat Shazam' (0.3) and 'MasterChef' (0.2). The CW's 'The Outpost' (0.0) lost a tenth behind a slightly stronger repeat of 'Roswell, New Mexico' (0.1).

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Olympics (+0.4) and 2021 NBA Draft (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of Roswell, New Mexico (-0.1) adjusted down.

Wednesday TV Ratings 7/28/21: Big Brother and Love Island Rise, Summer Olympics Tie Low, Pyramid and Match Game Slip (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: The 'Tokyo Summer Olympics' (2.7) lost five-tenths from Tuesday's broadcast on NBC and fell below a 3.0 rating for the first time in a few days. CBS was on the rise as both 'Big Brother' (0.9) and 'Love Island' (0.5) gained a tenth, with 'Island' eyeing a season high. A 'SWAT' rerun (0.2) rounded out their night. In contrast, ABC saw 'The $100,000 Pyramid' (0.4) lose two-tenths and 'Match Game' (0.3) shed one for its season finale. 'Press Your Luck' (0.4) was in repeat-mode in the 8pm slot. Fox offered up a pair of 'MasterChef' encores (0.3/0.2) that handily outrated The CW's  reruns of 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.1/0.1) and 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.1/0.1).

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics (+0.1), Big Brother (+0.1) and the repeat of Press Your Luck (+0.1) adjusted up.

Arthur Ending After 25 Seasons

It's the end of an era, as PBS Kids is preparing to say farewell to one of their longest-running and most iconic original series. Arthur will come to an end in winter 2022 after its four-episode 25th season, its executive producer has confirmed. The series, based on Marc Brown's book series that began in 1976, premiered on the public broadcaster in 1996. After Sesame Street's move to HBO and HBO Max in 2016, Arthur became the longest-running current PBS Kids original series. The educational series has been a staple of television over the years, becoming an important part of the pop culture lexicon. Rumors have swirled in recent years that the show was on its way out, but they remained unconfirmed until now.

Tuesday TV Ratings 7/27/21: Tokyo Olympics Hold Steady, Love Island Ticks Up (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: NBC's broadcast of the 'Tokyo Olympics' (3.2) held steady with Monday night's rating and, like clockwork, outperformed the combined rating of every other telecast of the evening. In an incredibly distant second place, CBS's 'Love Island' (0.4) rose a tenth from the previous Tuesday's episode and built from its 'NCIS' repeat lead-in (0.3). A 10pm encore of 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.2) slipped from there. ABC offered up comedy reruns, with 'The Goldbergs' (0.3) benefiting from the local lead-in and 'Black-ish' (0.1) sticking out like a sore thumb at 9:30. 'Home Economics', 'The Conners', and 'To Tell the Truth' all garnered a 0.2 rating. Fox was on-par with the alphabet network with its repeat showings of 'LEGO Masters' (0.2) and 'Mental Samurai' (0.2). The CW went with reruns of 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.1) and 'Superman & Lois' (0.1).

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Olympics (+0.1) and the repeat of Blackish (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of Superman & Lois (-0.1) adjusted down.

Monday TV Ratings 7/26/21: Tokyo Olympics Slide, The Bachelorette Also Down, Roswell New Mexico Ties Low in Return (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: After two-straight days of growth, the 'Tokyo Olympics' (3.2) fell roughly five-tenths from the preliminary rating of Sunday's telecast (3.7). Despite the slippage, it comfortably outdid the Friday and Saturday showings. ABC served up originals against NBC's broadcast and appeared to pay the price for it. 'The Bachelorette' (0.7) and 'Celebrity Dating Game' (0.3) both crashed to their lowest ratings of the season, losing two-tenths and a tenth respectively. CBS went with comedy reruns (0.3/0.2/0.2/0.2) and an encore of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.2). Fox got decent mileage out of a 'Hell's Kitchen' repeat (0.3) but reruns of toon sitcoms 'HouseBroken' (0.1) and 'Duncanville' (0.1) predictably underwhelmed. On the CW, the season premiere of 'Roswell, New Mexico' (0.1) was in-line with where it last left off in June 2020. 'The Republic of Sarah' (0.0) ticked down into complete obscurity in the 9pm slot.

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Olympics (+0.3), The Bachelorette (+0.1) and repeats of The Neighborhood (+0.1) and HouseBroken (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 7/25/21: Celebrity Family Feud and The Chase Hit Lows, Tokyo Olympics Soar, Big Brother Steady with Last Sunday (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Prospects brightened further for the 'Tokyo Olympics' (3.7) on night 3, with the ceremony up well over a full point from Saturday's telecast (2.5). NBC may not have been thrilled by Friday's opening but at least more people are tuning in with each subsequent broadcast. ABC seemed to feel the brunt of the 'Olympics' competition the most as 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.5) and 'The Chase' (0.3) were both down more than a tenth from last week's episodes (0.65 0.45). The 10pm installment of 'To Tell the Truth' (0.3) shed a tenth, as did the 7pm 'AFV' encore (0.4). CBS was unfazed by the 'Olympics' as '60 Minutes' (0.3), 'Big Brother' (0.8), and 'Love Island' (0.3) were all on-par with their week-ago outings. Fox had poorly-rated reruns of 'Duncanville' (0.1), 'HouseBroken' (0.1), 'The Simpsons' (0.1), and 'The Great North' (0.1). 'Bob's Burgers' (0.2) and 'Family Guy' (0.3) were able to pick up the slack from there. The CW had no sign of life as 'Wellington Paranormal' (0.0) and 'Dead Pixels' (0.0) remained at a laughably-bad level. An 8pm repeat of 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.0) didn't fare any better.

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Olympics (+0.4) and repeats of The Simpsons (+0.1) and The Great North (+0.1) adjusted up.

Fox Announces Fall 2021 Premiere Dates

Saturday TV Ratings 7/24/21: Olympics Rise from Opening Ceremony, All Other Networks Abysmal (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: After a rough return on Friday, the 'Tokyo Olympics' (2.5) saw some minor relief in day two, up two-tenths from the previous broadcast. Although it remains well below the 'Olympic' ratings from 2016, this is definitely a step in the right direction. CBS took the 2nd place spot but was unsurprisingly leagues below NBC with repeats of 'Magnum PI' (0.1) and '48 Hours' (0.2/0.2). ABC fared even worse as repeats of 'AFV' (0.2), 'Shark Tank' (0.2), and 'The Good Doctor' (0.1) barely managed to register in the 18-49 demographic. Fox was at that same putrid level with its showing of the 'CONCACAF Gold Cup' (0.1).

Finals Update: The repeat of 48 Hours (+0.1) adjusted up.

Bar Exam Season 4 Episode 8: Bake Lorenzo’s Heart Out

Friday TV Ratings 7/23/21: Olympics Opening Ceremony Down Massively from 2016, WWE SmackDown and Secret Celebrity Renovation Slip (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: The 'Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony' (2.3) posted a higher rating than every other program of the night combined. That doesn't exactly mean it had a strong performance though, the ceremony fell a whopping 69% from 2016's opening in the 18-49 demographic (7.5). Even when taking into account the rapid decline in TV viewership, this is clearly an unsettling trend. Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.5) came in at a distant second, dropping two-tenths from last week's outing. On CBS, 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.2) inched down while 'Love Island' (0.3) matched its previous Friday episode. A 10pm repeat of 'Blue Bloods' (0.1) found itself in CW-level territory. ABC's encores of 'Shark Tank' (0.3) and '20/20' (0.3) outperformed CBS's collective average. The season finale of 'Charmed' (0.1) held even on the CW and led into a rising 'Dynasty' (0.1).

Finals Update: 2020 Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony (+0.4) and WWE SmackDown (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 7/22/21: Good Girls Ends with a New Low, Big Brother and Love Island Rise, Holey Moley and When Nature Calls Steady in Timeslot Shifts (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: NBC's 'Good Girls' (0.2/0.3) ended its four-season run with a whimper, falling to a new series low at 9 before slightly rebounding for its final episode at 10. Its 'Making It' lead-in (0.3) was steady with its usual rating in the 8pm hour. 'Big Brother' (0.9) remained the dominant force on CBS, even with its last Thursday outing. 'Love Island' (0.4) was also stable despite retaining less than half of the 'Big Brother' audience. A 10pm 'Bull' repeat (0.2) was last place in its slot when using the Adults 18-49 rating metric but first place in terms of total viewership. On ABC, neither 'Holey Moley' (0.4) nor 'When Nature Calls' (0.3) seemed to benefit from a timeslot swap. 'Moley' held flat in its move back to 8 while 'Nature Calls' was unchanged for its first episode in the 9pm slot. At 10, 'The Hustler' (0.3) lost about half-a-tenth from last week's installment (0.35). Fox's 'Beat Shazam' (0.4) tied its week-ago preliminary rating and was succeeded by a rerun of 'LEGO Masters' (0.3). The CW was on the upswing as both 'Walker' (0.2) and 'The Outpost' (0.1) gained a tenth.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary ratings.

Wednesday TV Ratings 7/21/21: Match Game Has Solid Return, Crime Scene Kitchen Ends on New Low, Kung Fu Finale Steady, Big Brother Leads (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: CBS was steady across the board with 'Big Brother' (0.8), 'Love Island' (0.3), and a repeat of 'SWAT' (0.2). 'Big Brother' topped the night altogether and nearly doubled its closet competitor. Over on ABC, 'Match Game' (0.4) returned in decent shape, down just a few hundredths from its previous episode (0.45 in October 2020). Earlier in the evening, 'Press Your Luck' (0.5) and 'The $100,000 Pyramid' (0.5) tied their last originals. Fox's 'Crime Scene Kitchen' (0.3) dropped to a new series low for its season finale, a trend that has become fairly common in recent years. 'Kitchen' had a little less help than usual since its 'MasterChef' lead-in (0.5) lost a tenth. NBC aired an 'Olympic Dreams' special (0.3) that couldn't quite improve on the typical rerun of 'Chicago Med'. Encores of 'Chicago Fire' (0.2) and 'PD' (0.2) followed suit. The season finale of 'Kung Fu' (0.1) and a new 'In the Dark' (0.1) were both flat on the CW.

Finals Update: Press Your Luck (+0.1), Olympic Dreams featuring Jonas Brothers (+0.1), The $100,000 Pyramid (+0.1), Love Island (+0.1) and Crime Scene Kitchen (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 7/20/21: NBA Finals End With Top Rating of the Year, Mental Samurai Finale and Superman & Lois Slip, The Flash Ends Steady (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: With the Milwaukee Bucks winning the Championship, the 6th and last game of the 2021 NBA Finals scored a mammoth 2.8 A18-49 rating. This flew past the preliminary rating of the final 2020 game (2.1) and has a legitimate chance of adjusting up into the 4s. 'Kimmel Game Night' (1.4) and 'NBA Countdown' (1.8) were on the upswing but will likely adjust down heavily as they always do. Although ABC was the main attraction, NBC's 'America's Got Talent' (0.8) remained at a solid level, down just a tenth from last week. 'Capital One College Bowl' was frozen at its usual 0.4 rating at 10. On CBS, 'Love Island' (0.3) lost a few hundredths when compared to its previous Tuesday telecast. 'Island' aired between repeats of 'NCIS' (0.3) and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.2). Opposite the 'NBA Finals', 'LEGO Masters' (0.4) and 'Mental Samurai' (0.2) found themselves in series low territory on Fox. This is the first time 'Samurai' has fallen to a 0.2 rating since its May premiere. In CW news, 'The Flash' (0.2) was steady for its season finale while 'Superman & Lois' (0.1) shed a tenth.

Finals Update: 'America's Got Talent' (+0.1), 'LEGO Masters' (+0.1), 'NBA Finals Game 6' (+1.5), 'Mental Samurai' (+0.1) and 'Superman & Lois' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night' (-0.9) and 'NBA Countdown' (-0.8) adjusted down.

Monday TV Ratings 7/19/21: All American Finale, The Bachelorette and Hells Kitchen Steady, The Republic of Sarah Ticks Back Up (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: A rather mundane Monday evening saw ABC's 'The Bachelorette' (0.9) predictably capture the top slot. The reality juggernaut was flat with its last outing, as was modest newbie 'Celebrity Dating Game' (0.4) at 10. Over on the the Fox network, 'Hell's Kitchen Young Guns' (0.6), 'HouseBroken' (0.3), and 'Duncanville' (0.2) were all in-line with their usual delivery. NBC's lineup, consisting of 'American Ninja Warrior' (0.5) and 'Small Fortune' (0.3), remained unchanged. On the CW, 'All American' (0.2) bowed out in steady fashion for its season finale. After garnering that dreadful 0.0 rating last week, 'The Republic of Sarah' (0.1) picked up a tenth at 9. CBS offered no new broadcasts, opting instead to air reruns of 'The Neighborhood' (0.4), 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.3), 'Young Sheldon' (0.3), 'United States of Al' (0.2), and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.2). The encores were ultimately not much weaker than original programming on the other networks.

Finals Update: Hell's Kitchen Young Guns (+0.1) and the repeat of NCIS: Los Angeles (+0.1) adjusted up. The Celebrity Dating Game (-0.1) adjusted down.

Sunday TV Ratings 7/18/21: Celebrity Family Feud, The Chase and To Tell The Truth Steady After Weeks Off, Love Island Rises, Big Brother Leads (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC's game-show lineup finally returned after being absent for a full three weeks. 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.6), 'The Chase' (0.4), and 'To Tell the Truth' (0.4) all matched their previous episodes despite the extended hiatus. A 7pm encore of 'AFV' (0.4) tied the originals that aired at 9 and 10. On CBS, 'Big Brother' (0.8) was steady with its preliminary rating from the previous Sunday and took the title of highest-rated program of the evening. 'Love Island' (0.4) improved by a tenth when stacked up against last week and narrowly beat out a rerun of '60 Minutes' (0.3). Fox's broadcast of the '2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup' (0.3) spilled into the 7pm hour, but that wasn't enough to boost repeats of 'HouseBroken' (0.2), 'The Simpsons' (0.2), and 'The Great North' (0.2). Reruns of 'Bob's Burgers' (0.3) and 'Family Guy' (0.3) built from there in the 9pm hour. NBC had a poorly-rated pair of 'Capital One College Bowl' reruns (0.1/0.2) and a slightly higher-rated encore of 'America's Got Talent' (0.3). On the CW, 'Dead Pixels' (0.0) was dead on arrival for its season premiere. Earlier in the night, 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.1) and 'Wellington Paranormal' (0.0) held even.

Finals Update: Celebrity Family Feud (+0.1), The Chase (+0.1) and repeats of America's Funnest Home Videos (+0.1), Capital One College Bowl at 7 PM (+0.1) and The Simpsons (+0.1) adjusted up.

Saturday TV Ratings 7/17/21: NBA Finals Slip But Still Dominate, MLB and Superstar Racing Experience Also Drop (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Game 5 of the NBA Finals (1.9) was down six-tenths from the preliminary rating of the 4th one (2.5) but remained a tick above what game 3 garnered in prelims (1.8). ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Game Night' (1.1) and 'NBA Countdown' (1.0) were able to stay around the same vicinity in the 8pm slot. On Fox, 'MLB Regional Coverage' (0.3) was a tenth shy of last week's telecast. (0.42). NBC had middling reruns of 'America's Got Talent' (0.2) and 'Dateline' (0.3). But the peacock network was still well above CBS, with 'Superstar Racing Experience' (0.1) and a repeat of '48 Hours' (0.1) crashing into anemic territory on the Tiffany network.

Finals Update: NBA Finals Game 5 (+1.2), MLB Regional Coverage (+0.1), and the repeat of America's Got Talent (+0.1) adjusted up. Jimmy Kimmel Live! Game Night (-0.6) and NBA Countdown (-0.3) adjusted down.

The Bullpen Season 4 Episode 7: Celebrity Kickball Game

Friday TV Ratings 7/16/21: Love Island Steady, WWE SmackDown Doubles Closest Competition, Secret Celebrity Renovation Stable (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.6) picked up a tenth and ended up being 2x higher than all other programs. On CBS, 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.3) tied its mediocre start from last week. 'Love Island' (0.3) shed a tenth from its Thursday episode at 9 but was in-line with its typical delivery. A repeat of 'Blue Bloods' (0.2) dipped from there. ABC was neck-and-neck with CBS thanks to passable reruns of 'Shark Tank' (0.3) and '20/20' (0.3). NBC offered up an 'American Ninja Warrior' encore (0.3) and a 'Dateline' original (0.3). 'Charmed' (0.1) and 'Dynasty' (0.0) neither rose nor fell on the CW.

Finals Update: WWE SmackDown (+0.1) and repeats of Shark Tank (+0.1) and 20/20 (+0.1) adjusted up.
