Saturday TV Ratings 2/24/24: Saturday Night Live Jumps with Host Shane Gillis, NBA Leads Primetime, 48 Hours Rises (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Comedian Shane Gillis made his Saturday Night Live debut after being fired from the show in 2019, and the ratings clearly benefited. SNL (0.76, +0.11) picked up more than a full tenth in the Adults 18-49 demographic and gave NBC a Saturday night win in that key demographic. ABC's Celtics v. Knicks NBA game (0.52) came the closest to SNL but was still more than two-tenths below it. College basketball on Fox (0.19) was abysmal, while college basketball on the CW (0.06) was passable by the network's low standards. 48 Hours (0.26, +0.03) climbed higher on CBS.

Tuesday TV Ratings 2/27/24: The Floor Down for Finale, Will Trent Jumps, The Good Doctor Hits New Low (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Fox game show The Floor (0.38, -0.03) softened a bit on finale night, inching down to a new low for its season one closer. However, it was still reasonably competitive and remains one of the network's best performers of the year. ABC's Will Trent (0.38, +0.05) pulled off a shocking surge in week two, but The Rookie (0.36, -0.02) and The Good Doctor (0.18, -0.08) dropped, with the latter crashing to a new series low. NBC's The Voice (0.41, -0.11) was down markedly from Monday and led into a Deal or No Deal Island rerun (0.22). FBI (0.46, -0.04), FBI: International (0.37, -0.01), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.34, -0.03) slipped on CBS, but the declines were a little lighter than last week. Crime Nation (0.06, -0.01) lost a hundredth on the CW.

Finals Update: FBI (+0.1) and The Rookie (+0.1) adjusted up.

Monday TV Ratings 2/26/24: Deal or No Deal Island Off to Decent Start as The Voice Returns Lower, NCIS, The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola Drop (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Deal or No Deal Island (0.36) got off to a pretty healthy start on NBC and retained nearly 70% of its Voice lead-in (0.52). The Voice was down by a hundredth from its December finale (0.53) and was no match for ABC's The Bachelor (0.63, +0.07). Bad Romance (0.23, +0.06) improved at 10 but remained abysmal. The Neighborhood (0.40, -0.07), Bob Hearts Abishola (0.35, -0.08), and NCIS (0.43, -0.06) collapsed on CBS, but NCIS: Hawai'i (0.41, +0.03) actually climbed to a new season high in the 10 p.m. hour. America's Most Wanted (0.21, -0.07) and TMZ Investigates (0.15, -0.05) declined for their Fox finales. Ride (0.04, -0.01) was also down on the CW.

Finals Update: Deal or No Deal Island (+0.1) adjusted up.

ABC Renew/Cancel Week 2: Will Trent Has No Willpower

This week on the ABC Renew/Cancel, two dramas return from hiatus to join the fray. Keep reading to see what the outlook is for Will Trent and The Rookie!

Sunday TV Ratings 2/25/24: Tracker Ticks Up as The Equalizer Slips, Fox Lineup Rises Slightly from Previous Lows, American Idol Leads (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Things got even better for CBS's Tracker (0.48, +0.02) as the new drama built on last week's time slot premiere, even as The Equalizer (0.44, -0.04) slipped in the slot before it. 60 Minutes (0.39, -0.06) also lost some momentum in the 7 p.m. hour, while CSI: Vegas (0.28, +0.02) grew in the 10 p.m. slot. AFV (0.46, 0.00) and American Idol (0.55, 0.00) held even on ABC, but What Would You Do? (0.29, -0.03) inched down. On Fox, there was some minor recovery as The Simpsons (0.21, +0.03) and Krapopolis (0.14, +0.03) bounced back from last week's devastating new lows. The Great North (0.11, +0.01), however, did not improve nearly as much and even lost out to its Grimsburg lead-out (0.12, +0.03). NBC re-ran Fantasy League (0.15) and Dateline (0.19). The CW had another strong movie night, this time going with 2016 film Hidden Figures (0.10).

Finals Update: America's Funniest Home Videos (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of Next Level Chef (-0.1) adjusted down.

FOX Renew/Cancel Week 20: Grimsburg Is Cartoonishly Weak

Predictions for 02/25/24

Below are the Week 20 renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2023-24 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has risen or fallen when compared to its average from the previous season. Because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there is a limited amount of scripted programming this winter. As a result, reality television will continue to be included in this column. Now that more scripted programming is set to return soon, scripted and reality will be split into two separate charts.

Scripted

Reality

*Final ratings for Thursday, February 22, 2024 are not out yet. Because of this, the season lows and overall averages of Next Level Chef and Farmer Wants a Wife are subject to change.

Grimsburg: Expectations were never high for Grimsburg, especially after its relatively soft NFL preview, but few probably expected the series to return in February with a lifeless 0.09 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. To put things into perspective, The CW aired 23 year-old film Remember the Titans (0.11) on the same night and got a higher rating out of it than Fox got out of Grimsburg. Though The Simpsons, Krapopolis, and The Great North also performed poorly, that does not give this series a pass for doing even worse. Grimsburg was always going to be at a disadvantage since it airs at 9:30 and has had the least amount of football juice pumped into it, but almost every show on broadcast television can do better than this. Grimsburg has already been Renewed for a second season, but it would come as no surprise if season two was sent to Hulu or tossed onto the summer schedule.

The Great North: The Great North completely bombed in its 9 p.m. anchor debut, scraping together a measly 0.10 rating and falling from its Krapopolis lead-in (0.11). This one is just not able to anchor an hour and is part of the reason why Grimsburg had no real launching pad for its time slot premiere. It is really going to be interesting to see what Fox does with their cartoon roster. There was once a time when the Animation Domination lineup was perfectly fine once football went away, but it seems now more than ever that they cannot stand on their own in the spring months. The Great North was given ample time in the cushiony post-Simpsons time slot and often did pretty well, but Fox's efforts to nurture a new animation staple have failed.

Farmer Wants a Wife: After a (barely) passable premiere, Farmer Wants a Wife dropped to a 0.22 in week two, even as its Next Level Chef lead-in (0.39) improved on its week-ago rating. Farmer retained just 56% of its Chef lead-in here and just recently fell to a (preliminary) 0.17. Though this series was never a powerhouse in season one, it has gotten even less impressive now that it is no longer tethered to The Masked Singer like it was before. Because of its shortcomings in the Nielsen department, Farmer is now Likely to be Canceled. However, Farmer fans should be proud that this iteration has lasted longer than the 2008 CW version that was canceled after just eight episodes.

Special Forces: Though it has not aired since November, Special Forces: World's Toughest Test has been upgraded to a Likely Renewal. It was reported just last month that the unscripted program puts up a strong performance on streaming and grew in Live+7 Day ratings when compared to season one. The Adults 18-49 ratings may have been mediocre, but Fox is clearly happy with how the series is doing on other platforms. With Friday-night staple WWE Smackdown set to leave the network in fall 2024, Fox could definitely use passable players like Special Forces to fill in the void. This one is lower on the totem pole but certainly a healthier option than something like Farmer.

Friday TV Ratings 2/23/24: Fire Country, SWAT and Blue Bloods Slide in Week Two, WWE SmackDown Also Sinks (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS dramas SWAT (0.38, -0.08), Fire Country (0.38, -0.13), and Blue Bloods (0.32, -0.06) all took a step down in week two but remained adequate Friday-night players. Fox's WWE Smackdown (0.62, -0.13) took a pretty big hit but remained the night's top-rated program. Shark Tank (0.36, +0.02) and 20/20 (0.29, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths apiece on ABC, while NBC's Dateline (0.28, +0.01) picked up one. Penn & Teller (0.07, -0.01), Totally Funny Kids (0.05, -0.01), and Totally Funny Animals (0.05, -0.01) all shed a hundredth on the CW.

Finals Update: Shark Tank (+0.1) and Fire Country (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 2/21/24: Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala Flops, Abbott Elementary and The Conners Drop to New Lows, Chicago Fire Rises (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Though The Price Is Right At Night (0.37, -0.09) was definitely on the softer side, CBS's broadcast of Dolly Parton's Pet Gala (0.18) retained less than half of its demo rating and was one of the weakest offerings of the night. On ABC, The Conners (0.36, -0.03) and Abbott Elementary (0.36, -0.08) crashed to new series lows, while Not Dead Yet (0.24, -0.04) also slipped but remained above its previously-set low. Judge Steve Harvey was frozen at last week's 0.14 rating in the 10 p.m. hour, once again losing to the Celebrity Family Feud repeat (0.18) that led into it. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.48, -0.03) dipped, but Chicago Fire (0.51, +0.04) and Chicago PD (0.51, +0.05) surged. I Can See Your Voice (0.19, -0.03) slipped on Fox, but We Are Family (0.21, +0.03) recovered a bit. Wild Cards (0.06, -0.01) and Family Law (0.05, -0.02) declined on the CW.

Thursday TV Ratings 2/22/24: Law & Order Jumps with Sam Waterston Exit, Ghosts Collapses, So Help Me Todd and Next Level Chef Also Sink (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: NBC's Law & Order (0.47, +0.09) was up by nearly a full tenth for the Sam Waterston exit episode and helped SVU (0.58, +0.06) and Organized Crime (0.41, +0.03) grow along with it. On CBS, Young Sheldon (0.53, -0.10), Ghosts (0.44, -0.23), and So Help Me Todd (0.29, -0.09) plummeted in week two, but it was Ghosts that took the most alarming drop of the three. Fox's Next Level Chef (0.29, -0.15) and Farmer Wants a Wife (0.17, -0.07) also crumbled. ABC re-ran American Idol (0.30) and Will Trent (0.16). Reruns of The Conners (0.09/0.07) remained a strong option for the CW, but Son of a Critch (0.04, -0.02) and Children Ruin Everything (0.02, -0.02) still slipped.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary rounded ratings.

Monday Cable Ratings 2/19/24: WWE Raw Rises and Leads the Night, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Slightly Down, Jesse Watters Primetime Leads Cable News

Saturday TV Ratings 2/17/24: NHL Leads the Night, 48 Hours Rises (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's broadcast of the Flyers v. Devils NHL game (0.30) was a modest success for the network and led them to a narrow Saturday evening victory. Fox took second-place with a college basketball game (0.25) that was slightly lower than last week's. The CW's college basketball telecast (0.06) also fell below last week. CBS's 48 Hours (0.23, +0.01) picked up a hundredth in the 10 p.m. hour, once more building on drama repeats (0.18/0.16). NBC had a rerun of Fantasy League (0.17) and SNL Vintage (0.20), but no new SNL.

Tuesday TV Ratings 2/20/24: The Rookie Returns Heavily Down, Will Trent Sees Minimal Boost in New Time Slot, Quantum Leap Ends Steady (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's Will Trent (0.33) took advantage of the move from 10 p.m. to 8 p.m. and returned a good bit higher than its spring 2023 showings for its season two premiere. The Rookie (0.38) built on Trent but was noticeably down in its move from 8 to 9. But the news was much worse at 10 as The Good Doctor (0.26) began its final season with a rating that was just a hundredth higher than its previously-set series low. On CBS, FBI (0.50, -0.07), FBI: International (0.38, -0.06), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.37, -0.05) dealt with the usual post-premiere declines. NBC's Quantum Leap (0.19/0.18) was roughly on-par with last week for its finale. Extended Family (0.23, 0.00) held even, while Night Court (0.29, -0.01) shed a hundredth. Celebrity Name That Tune (0.25, -0.01) and The Floor (0.41, -0.01) were both down by the same amount on Fox, with Tune wrapping up its season altogether. The CW aired the series premiere of Crime Nation (0.07) and nothing else.

Finals Update: The Rookie (+0.1) and The Good Doctor (+0.1) adjusted up.

Monday TV Ratings 2/19/24: NCIS Stable with David McCallum Tribute, The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola Drop from Premieres, The Irrational Finale and The Bachelor Also Slip (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS comedies The Neighborhood (0.47, -0.08) and Bob Hearts Abishola (0.43, -0.04) declined in week two, while NCIS (0.49, 0.00) and NCIS: Hawai'i (0.38, 0.00) tied their week-ago premieres. The Bachelor (0.56, -0.05) and Bad Romance (0.17, -0.03) slipped on ABC. NBC's America's Got Talent: Fantasy League (0.35, +0.02) improved on finale night, but The Irrational (0.18, -0.01) inched down. America's Most Wanted (0.28, +0.08) and TMZ Investigates (0.20, +0.05) seemingly surged on Fox. Ride (0.05, 0.00) was stable on the CW.

Finals Update: The Bachelor (+0.1), America's Most Wanted (+0.1), and The Neighborhood (+0.1) adjusted up.

Friday TV Ratings 2/16/24: Blue Bloods, Fire Country and SWAT Premiere Up, Shark Tank Drops (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Friday evening dramas SWAT (0.46) and Fire Country (0.51) were both way up from their May 2023 finales (0.35/0.35) and led CBS to another strong, post-strike premiere night. Blue Bloods (0.38) also improved on its finale from last year (0.34), but there was a noticeable downturn in its retention from Fire CountryShark Tank (0.34, -0.05) slipped on ABC, but 20/20 (0.27, 0.00) held steady. NBC's Dateline (0.27, +0.02) pulled into a tie with its newsmagazine rival, even though it had a Password rerun (0.23) for a lead-in. Fox remained king with a stable WWE Smackdown (0.75, 0.00). Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.08, 0.00) was flat on the CW after taking a week off. After that came the series premieres of Totally Funny Kids (0.06) and Totally Funny Animals (0.06), with this pair posting adequate ratings by CW Friday standards.

Finals Update: SWAT (+0.1) and Blue Bloods (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 2/18/24: The Equalizer and Tracker Have Solid Premieres, American Idol Premieres Down, Abysmal Returns for Fox Lineup (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: One week after its Super Bowl-fueled debut, CBS drama Tracker (0.46, -3.48) appeared healthier than ever in its time slot premiere. Retention was also incredibly strong here as Tracker was just two-hundredths away from the season premiere of The Equalizer (0.48) that led into it. CSI: Vegas (0.26) dropped the ball at 10 as far as retention goes but was on-par with its delivery from last season. In the 7 p.m. hour, 60 Minutes (0.45, -0.12) declined enough that ABC's AFV (0.46, +0.19) was able to slip past it. From there, the alphabet network aired the premieres of American Idol (0.55) and What Would You Do? (0.32). Idol was down slightly from last year's start, while What Would You Do? was close to its last showings from back in summer 2020. Over on Fox, the network debuted a revamped animation block that will have to do without football inflation, and it was already a complete disaster. The Simpsons (0.18, -1.62), Krapopolis (0.11, -0.21), The Great North (0.10, -0.12), and Grimsburg (0.09, -0.48) all crashed to new series lows, with the latter two losing out to The CW's broadcast of Remember the Titans (0.11). NBC got a very healthy rating out of the People's Choice Awards (0.46).

Finals Update: 2024 People's Choice Awards (+0.2), America's Funniest Home Videos (+0.1), and Tracker (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 2/15/24: So Help Me Todd and Young Sheldon Return Up from Finales, Ghosts Draws Highest Scripted Premiere of the Season, Next Level Chef Rises (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS comedies Young Sheldon (0.63) and Ghosts (0.67) returned in very solid shape for their respective season premieres. Both returned a good bit higher than their May finales and were well above all other offerings in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The momentum completely stopped once the clock hit 9 as So Help Me Todd (0.38) remained a poor retainer, but the drama was still up from its own season finale from last May. The night finished with an encore of Tracker (0.27). On Fox, Next Level Chef (0.44, +0.05) and Farmer Wants a Wife (0.24, +0.02) were both on the rise, but Farmer was once more a lot less impressive than its lead-in. ABC went with more Truth and Lies (0.24) and another Will Trent rerun (0.16). NBC re-ran Law & Order (0.30), SVU (0.29), and Organized Crime (0.24). Son of a Critch (0.06, +0.01) inched up on the CW, while Children Ruin Everything (0.04, 0.00) held even.

Finals Update: Ghosts (+0.1) and So Help Me Todd (+0.1) adjusted up.

Evil Ending After Four Seasons

After a four-season run that began on CBS before shifting to Paramount+, Evil will officially end its run later this year. The decision was made by Paramount+ and not the creators, though the streamer has ordered four additional episodes for the fourth season in order to provide closure for the series, which was created by frequent CBS/Paramount collaborators Robert & Michelle King. The fourth and final season is set to debut in May, though an exact date hasn't yet been announced. Evil is the latest in a recent string of Paramount+ cancellations that have seen the ends of Wolf Pack, SEAL Team, iCarly and Joe Pickett all announced. Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti, Kurt Fuller and Andrea Martin star in the series, with Herbers, Colter, Martin, Lahti and Emerson all receiving nominations at the Critics Choice Awards for their work on the series.

Wednesday TV Ratings 2/14/24: The Conners and Abbott Elementary Slip, We Are Family and Judge Steve Harvey Hit New Lows (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: There was some noticeable slippage on ABC as The Conners (0.39, -0.02), Not Dead Yet (0.28, -0.04), and Abbott Elementary (0.44, -0.04) all declined from their week-ago premieres. The news was even worse at 10 where Judge Steve Harvey (0.14, -0.06) fell from an already abysmal starting-point, despite the fact that its lead-in was a Harvey-hosted rerun of Celebrity Family Feud (0.25). I Can See Your Voice (0.22, +0.03) improved on Fox, but We Are Family (0.18, -0.07) crashed to a new low after taking a week off. CBS game show The Price Is Right At Night (0.46, -0.03) dipped, but Let's Make a Deal Primetime (0.35, +0.08) surged after sinking last week. Wild Cards (0.07, -0.01) inched down on the CW, while Family Law (0.07, +0.02) grew enough to tie its lead-in. Over on NBC, Chicago Med (0.30), Chicago Fire (0.29), and Chicago PD (0.30) were all in rerun-mode.

Finals Update: The Price Is Right At Night (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 2/13/24: FBI, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted Rise in Returns, The Bachelor Slips on Special Night, La Brea Rises for Series Finale (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS continued along with their version of premiere week, this time bringing FBI (0.57), FBI: International (0.44), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.42) back to the airwaves. These three all improved on their May 2023 finales (0.42/0.33/0.33), and FBI was actually the top-rated program of the night altogether. On ABC, The Bachelor (0.56, -0.05) settled for a second-place finish in the Adults 18-49 demographic as it was down significantly from Monday's episode. Night Court (0.30, +0.01), Extended Family (0.23, +0.01), and the La Brea series finale (0.19, +0.02) were all a bit higher than they were last week on NBC. Quantum Leap (0.18, 0.00), however, did not rise. Fox's Celebrity Name That Tune (0.26, -0.01) and The Floor (0.42, -0.04) lost some steam. Inside the NFL (0.05, -0.01) ticked down for its finale on the CW.

Finals Update: FBI (+0.1), The Bachelor (+0.1) and Celebrity Name That Tune (+0.1) adjusted up.
