Tuesday TV Ratings 2/25/25: Will Trent and St. Denis Medical Tie Season Lows, The Rookie and FBIs Also Sink, Doc Stable [+ Analysis]

Doc Renewed by Fox

Fox has renewed another of their new drams this season, handing an early renewal to medical drama Doc, eight episodes into its run. The show has been something of a breakout for Fox this season, starting slow but growing as the weeks went on, averaging 0.23 in the key 18-49 demo and hitting a demo high last week. While that puts it behind most dramas on rival networks ABC, CBS and NBC, it's Fox's #2 live action series, rating ahead of every show on the network besides 9-1-1: Lone Star, which ended earlier this year. Doc has also been a strong performer on streaming, consistently placing within the top 15 shows on Hulu. The show's performance was not just enough to earn a second season, it was enough to earn a full second season. While many shows have tapped out at eighteen episodes or less in recent seasons, Doc's second season will be a complete twenty-two episodes. Molly Parker, Omar Metwally, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, and Amir Vann star in the series, with Scott Wolf in a recurring role. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

FOX Renew/Cancel 7: Grim Ratings For Grimsburg

Predictions for 02/22/25

Below are the February 22nd renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has grown or declined when compared to its average from the previous season.

Grimsburg: In its return, Grimsburg posted a 0.14 Adults 18-49 rating, retaining barely half of its Family Guy lead-in. Despite the poor performance, this number is actually higher than eleven of the thirteen episodes that aired in 2024. When looking at the big picture, Fox doesn't really need to keep Grimsburg around. They have their three animated veterans (SimpsonsBob'sFamily Guy), a decent performer in Universal Basic Guys, and two more cartoons (Krapopolis & The Great North) that are much closer to syndication than Grim. And yet, it starts as a Likely Renewal in this column. The fact that Fox bumped it up an hour to give it a Family Guy lead-in means they want it to succeed. If they were fine with its dismal performance last year, they are probably fine with it doing about the same this time around.

Family Guy: On Sunday, NASCAR zoomed into primetime and caused significant delays. Because of this, the season premiere of Family Guy aired at ten instead of eight, but that was probably for the better as Peter Griffin and company returned with a 0.27 rating. The series likely took advantage of its sizable lead-in, as this is its best Adults 18-49 performance since 2023. Though it is possible that airing two hours late canceled out any boost it may have gotten from NASCAR, it's more likely that Family Guy will deal with a sizable decline in week two. For now, the series is Likely to be Renewed. This is the first time in a while that Fox has scheduled the series in a worthy time slot, and it is unlikely that any of the other three in this lineup will be doing any better. A move to Hulu seems to be on the horizon, but Fox needs it on broadcast for now.

Doc: Doc recently jumped to a 0.27 rating, setting a new season high in the process. This drama has come a long way since it posted that dreadful 0.19 on premiere night, and it has only strengthened its case for renewal. Doc began as a shaky Likely Renewal in January, but its live ratings have grown enough that it is now closer to Certain Renewal status.

Animal Control: Speaking of shows rising to new highs, Animal Control jumped to a 0.25 for its latest installment. This is the program's best rating since 2023, meaning it bested every season two episode in this showing. Animal Control appears to be in fine shape and retains its Likely Renewal status.

Going Dutch: Though there was once a time when Going Dutch built on Animal Control, its latest performance shows no such promise. Dutch delivered a mere 0.16 on February 13th, retaining just 64% of Animal Control's audience. A renewal is never completely out of the question for a struggling Fox newcomer, but Dutch has made it clear that it is no Doc. It is still Likely to be Canceled

NBC Renew/Cancel Week 17: Saturday Night Live Will Outlive Us All

This week on the NBC Renew/Cancel, I take a look at Saturday Night Live's future amidst its big 50th anniversary celebrations, and also upgrade one long-overlooked veteran that's remained a consistent hit.

Happy’s Place Renewed by NBC

NBC is quite happy with Happy's Place, as they have renewed the freshman sitcom for a second season. Happy's Place is the second of NBC's comedies to be renewed this season, after fellow freshman comedy St. Denis Medical. This leaves only veteran comedies Night Court and Lopez vs Lopez awaiting their fates. Happy's Place has rated as NBC's #2 sitcom this season, with a 0.28 average that puts it towards the middle of NBC's programing in the key 18-49 demo. The series was Reba McEntire's return to sitcoms, her second attempt at a sitcom comeback following the short-lived Malibu Country. This show will now assuredly surpass that series, which lasted for a single twenty-episode season. This series reunites her with her Reba co-star Melissa Peterman, as well as her real-life partner and Big Sky co-star Rex Linn. Melissa Escobedo also stars in the series as the long-lost younger sister of McEntire's character. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

CBS Renews Nine Series, Including NCIS: Origins, Elsbeth, Ghosts and Tracker

CBS has issued a mass renewal for nine of its primetime series, including a mix of some of their highest-rated programs and some of their lowest-rated. Three freshman series have received second seasons, with Thursday sitcom Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, Monday night drama NCIS: Origins and midseason reality filler Hollywood Squares all receiving pickups. Sophomore series Elsbeth, Tracker and NCIS: Sydney have been renewed for third seasons. Veteran procedural NCIS has received a renewal for a twenty-third season, meaning all three current NCIS series will survive this season. Ghosts has received a notable two-season renewal, extending the run through at least the sixth season. Fire Country, which will launch a new spinoff next season, has been renewed for a fourth season. These renewals come just days after the order of a new Blue Bloods spinoff, as CBS begins to solidify its plans for the 2025-26 season. All are correct predictions for The TV Ratings Guide.

These pickups, along with the previous renewals of FBI and Matlock, leave The Neighborhood, Poppa's House, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, SWAT, The Equalizer and Watson as CBS's only ongoing series without their fates confirmed for next season yet.

9-1-1: Nashville Ordered to Series by ABC

Two seasons into its run on the network, ABC is expanding the 9-1-1 franchise. With its first spinoff ending its run just weeks ago on Fox, 9-1-1 will now launch its first spinoff on ABC, with another southern-set spinoff set in Nashville, Tennessee. It's third Ryan Murphy show in as many seasons to join ABC's lineup, after 9-1-1 premiered in the 2023-24 season and Doctor Odyssey premiered in the 2024-25 season. 9-1-1 is one of the highest-rated series on ABC, narrowly trailing Shifting Gears and Will Trent in the 18-49 season average. No cast has been announced yet for 9-1-1: Nashville, though development of a new 9-1-1 spinoff has long been discussed, with Hawaii named as a potential spinoff before ABC finally settled on Nashville as the settling.

Tuesday TV Ratings 2/18/25: FBI Shows and Doc Jump to Season Highs, The Rookie Rises in New Time Slot, Night Court Slips [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: FBI (0.46, +0.11), FBI: International (0.40, +0.13), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.39, +0.13) all soared to new season highs on CBS. Fox's Doc (0.27, +0.02) also jumped to a new high, even as its Kitchen Nightmares lead-in (0.28, -0.02) slipped. Will Trent (0.37, -0.02) was down slightly on ABC, but The Rookie (0.31, +0.07) rose significantly in its move to nine. St. Denis Medical (0.30, -0.02), Night Court (0.25, -0.04), and Deal Or No Deal Island (0.25, -0.03) all declined on NBC, but The Irrational (0.15, +0.01) got back a hundredth. WWE NXT (0.17, -0.01) cooled down on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

Monday TV Ratings 2/17/25: The Bachelor and The Voice Rise, Extracted and Rescue: HI-Surf Sink, 4 Nations Face-Off Tops Cable [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: On ABC, The Bachelor (0.45, +0.09) was up markedly, but Mormon Wives (0.10, -0.01) got even weaker. NBC's The Voice (0.51, +0.02) and The Hunting Party (0.23, +0.01) ticked up. CBS aired a Black History Month Special (0.20) and drama encores (0.20/0.17). Extracted (0.24, -0.14) and Rescue: HI-Surf (0.17, -0.07) fell apart on Fox. All American (0.04, -0.02) also dropped on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

Sunday TV Ratings 2/16/25: SNL 50 Anniversary Special Dominates, Watson Flatlines in Time Slot Debut, The White Lotus Returns Up from Season 2 Premiere [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: The first Sunday after the Super Bowl is usually uneventful for broadcast, but NBC made sure that was not the case this year. SNL50: The Anniversary Special put up a staggering 2.17 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic and was viewed by over 13 million in total. Though this is a far cry from SNL40's 7.8 rating, it goes down as a major feat for a television broadcast in 2025. Earlier in the night, the SNL50 red carpet special (0.87) also posted a strong rating. On Fox, NASCAR (1.07) bled into prime time, meaning the season premieres of Family Guy (0.27) and Grimsburg (0.14) were booted into the 10 p.m. hour. On CBS, Tracker (0.36, -0.17), Watson (0.26, -1.34), and The Equalizer (0.23, -0.03) all had rather sluggish returns. ABC went with encores of America's Funniest Home Videos (0.28) and Shifting Gears (0.14/0.13/0.12/0.11/0.11/0.13). The CW aired the film Talladega Nights (0.03). Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat.

Saturday TV Ratings 2/15/25: 4 Nations Face-Off Tops NBA All-Star to Lead the Night, SNL Music Documentary Nearly Matches Original Rating, Return to Office Decent on Hallmark [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: ABC's hockey broadcast (1.37) was Saturday night's top-rated program in Adults 18-49 ratings and total viewers. On NBC, a repeat of the 50 Years of SNL Music special (0.40) was only slightly below January's original broadcast (0.42). 48 Hours (0.18, +0.02) climbed higher on CBS. Fox's college basketball broadcast (0.29) was a notch above Friday's. The CW went with anemic encores of Wild Cards (0.02/0.01). Key: (R) = repeat.

Friday TV Ratings 2/14/25: NBA All-Star Celebrity Game Rises from 2024 and Leads the Night, SWAT and RuPaul’s Drag Race Drop to Lows, Shark Tank Repeat Tops Broadcast [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: ABC's Shark Tank (0.37) was in repeat mode for the night but still beat out its broadcast competitors. 20/20 (0.24, 0.00) held steady at nine. Happy's Place (0.30, +0.03) gained some momentum on NBC, but Dateline (0.21, -0.04) slipped. NCIS: Sydney (0.27, +0.01) ticked up on CBS, but Fire Country (0.30, -0.03) and SWAT (0.21, -0.04) declined. On Fox, college basketball (0.25) was about a tenth below last week. Penn & Teller (0.05, -0.01) and Masters of Illusion (0.04, -0.01) lost a hundredth apiece on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

CBS Orders Blue Bloods Spinoff Boston Blue

Blue Bloods has ended its run on CBS, but fans of the long-running procedural have something to be happy about: a spinoff of the series has been given a straight-to-series order to air on the network next season. Titled Boston Blue, the spinoff will star Donnie Wahlberg, with his character relocating to Boston and joining their police department. Boston Blue was not initially conceived as a Blue Bloods spinoff, and this project is different than the ones that were said to be in early development around the time Blue Bloods went off the air, one of which was also centered around Wahlberg's Danny Reagan. Boston Blue is one of two spinoffs already confirmed for next season on CBS, along with Fire Country offshoot Sheriff Country, while spinoffs of The Equalizer, The Neighborhood and FBI are also in development, without any official orders yet for any of those.

Monday TV Ratings 2/10/25: Extracted Premieres Strong, The Hunting Party Dismal, The Bachelor Slips [+ Analysis]
