Warner Bros. Discovery Pulls All Programming from HBO Max, to Begin Pulling Shows from Unrelated Streamers

Fresh off pulling all original programming from the company's signature streamer HBO Max, Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav has a new plan in mind: getting tax write-offs for his company by pulling shows he doesn't even produce from rival streamers. Zaslav has not yet detailed how he plans to receive a payout for his company by pulling shows from other streaming services, nor has he expressed how he will compel the other streamers to pull their shows for his company's own financial gain, but we're sure he'll figure it out. He has, however, set out a list of shows he plans to pull, which includes Netflix's Wednesday, Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, and Disney+'s The Mandalorian, all of which are expected to provide heavy write-offs once they are pulled. Zaslav has also set his sights on original movies, such as Hocus Pocus 2 and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. A full list of shows on rival streamers that Zaslav plans to pull can be seen here. If all goes as planned, the titles will be removed from their respective streaming outlets on April 31st.

Fox Nation To Revive Bordertown

Fox Nation is expanding its programming library on the first of the month!

After being off the air for seven years, animated sitcom Bordertown will return for a second season on the streaming service Fox Nation. The Seth MacFarlane comedy originally aired on the Fox network in spring 2016 but only lasted a single, 13-episode season. MacFarlane is slated to have no involvement with this reboot and reportedly sold the rights to the series for $500. Bordertown takes place in the fictional town of "Mexifornia" where grumpy Border Patrol agent Bud Buckwald often butts heads with his happy-go-lucky Mexican neighbor Ernesto Gonzalez.

Bordertown will undergo a "hard reset" for this reboot due to the network change and long hiatus it dealt with. For one, the entire voice cast will be replaced with Fox News personalities in an attempt to boost the status of the series. On top of being the program's showrunner, Tucker Carlson will be taking over the voice of Bud Buckwald, a character originally voiced by Hank Azaria. Ernesto Gonzalez will be voiced by Greg Gutfeld, a move that is sparking controversy online due to the exaggerated Mexican accent that Gutfeld will be using. Laura Ingraham will voice Bud's wife Janice, Ernesto's wife Maria, Bud's older daughter Becky, Bud's younger daughter Gert, and an assortment of other female characters. Jesse Watters will voice Pablo Barracuda, the biggest drug lord in the program's fictional town. Sean Hannity is set to play Ernesto's son Ruiz, Ernesto's undocumented father Placido, and Mexican trickster El Coyote.

Outside of the voice cast shake-up, the series is expected to undergo a "conservative makeover". New showrunner Tucker Carlson intends to depict Bud's plight in a more sympathetic light and has reportedly disparaged the Fox entertainment network's animation lineup. When called for comment, Carlson said, "Liberal propogandist Seth MacFarlane wants us to view Bud as a racist who hates Mexican people. That could not be further from the truth. Bud is a hard-working patriot who stands up for his country. He is a loyal family man with true respect for the law and an impeccable border patrol agent who keeps America safe. We intend to make him the hero of this story. This is not going to be an insulting, perverted mess like Bob's Burgers or Family Guy. This will be a show all Americans who have love for their country can enjoy."

This marks the first time that Fox Nation has acquired a scripted series, indicating that the streaming service may be trying to become more competitive in the arena of online content. The second season will debut on June 31st with the season premiere "Biden Patrol". In the episode, Bud finds himself arrested after filming a viral video where he calls out Joe Biden for allegedly creating a border crisis. Episode two "Pronoun Palooza" will focus on Bud's refusal to call his daughter Gert by "she/they" pronouns. A total of 13 episodes are slated to be created for season two and will be released on a weekly basis. Production will be handled by the new animation studio American Art instead of Bento Box Entertainment.

What do you think of this fake news? Would you like to see a revival of Bordertown? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Former President Trump to Guest Star on Law & Order

Former President Donald J. Trump, no stranger to television, is set to make his long-awaited return to NBC in an upcoming episode of the Law & Order revival. Many credit Trump with the show's grand return to television after a decade-plus off the air, as bringing back Law & Order was a major theme of the ex-POTUS's two presidential campaigns. Dick Wolf is giving the former president thanks by giving him a guest starring role. NBC remains tight-lipped about the details of the appearance, but set leaks indicate that Trump will be flexing his acting muscles and suspending disbelief by playing a powerful politician accused of campaign finance violations. Production of the episode is said to have run into some early hurdles, as Trump famously resigned his SAG-AFTRA union membership in 2021, but negotiations between NBC and SAG-AFTRA to allow the Trump appearance are said to have gone well. The former President isn't the only member of his administration to appear in an NBC Universal program this year, as former Vice President Mike Pence was recently announced as a cast member on season two of Peacock's The Traitors, a casting decision that Trump was said to have heavily lobbied for.

The Simpsons Moves to Disney Plus

Just how much money does one little mouse need to make?  Citing declining profits and licensing difficulties, Disney has announced the Simpsons will move exclusively to Disney Plus in the fall at the start of their 35th season.  Despite this drastic change, series creator Matt Groening has remained optimistic and hinted good things are coming:

"With Disney's invested capital, we can update the show.  We no longer have network constraints, angry parents and censors constantly interfering with the quality of the show.  Due to this interference, the show has been a shell of its former self."

Sources state recent drops in the ratings precipitated FOX to trim the budget, and Dinsey stepped forward seeing a lucrative opportunity.  "We plan on washing it down, getting back to the basics and making the show as funny as it was during its first 8 seasons." muses Groening.  "We lost that charm a long time ago.  We will see Bart continuing to prank Moe, Sideshow Bob making relevant appearances and get back to the defining qualities of the characters."

The Simpsons' last episode on FOX will air on May 21, and season 35 is expected to debut sometime in November.

NBC Reboots The Apprentice Starring Kathy Griffin

NBC seems to have stalled creatively and scraping the barrel.  After Donald Trump refused to revive his successful reality TV show and was quoted "you can hand that to Kathy Griffin for all I care."   NBC must have liked the concept, as Griffin will host the series in early 2024 on Sundays.  To steer away from her friend Donald's famous "you're fired" dismissal phrase, Kathy took a more tactful approach.  When she dismisses contestants, they shall be told "Off with your head!"

Can't NBC locate something original?  Or perhaps just stick Saturday Night Live reruns in that slot?  One perk is Griffin has agreed not to bring Trump into her skits or humor, so she must be taking this role seriously as her comedy is limited to ripping on Trump.  Perhaps an unfunny enterprise may be the key to reviving Griffin's damaged career.

ABC Orders Grey’s Spinoff: Ghosts Anatomy

What is it with networks copycatting hits from other networks?  Ghosts regularly beats Grey's Anatomy in the current ratings, so ABC has opted to create a spinoff, Ghosts Anatomy, starring ultra popular alum Katherine Heigl as Dr. Izzie Stephens.  Now an undertaker, Izzie cannot move past her ghostly hookup with Denny, and she continues to seek romance with the dead.  Rounding out the cast is Joy Behar, a fellow actress whom has admitted she enjoys hooking up with the dead.

Given CBS has already ordered Ghosts Hooking Up and FOX revived failed sitcom Ghosted, could this bee too much undead saturation?  And do viewers really need to relive the story which ruined Izzie and launched Grey's Anatomy into its first of many downturns?  Perhaps ABC will learn their lesson or generate a hit.

Ghosts Hooking Up: Meet CBS ’ New Franchise

In response to FOX reviving Ghosted, ABC piggybacking on the trend with Not Dead Yet and Grey's Anatomy Spinoff Ghost's Anatomy, CBS is aggressively fighting back and has cloned its inspired sitcom Ghosts with a hyper-sexual spinoff, Ghosts Hooking Up.  Who woulda thunkit, HettyWhitestone (Rebecca Wisocky) sat on the washing machine to quiet the spin cycle and enjoying the ride would catalyze romance and a sexual appetite.  CBS has picked up the pilot which will feature Wisocky and her ghostly cohorts visiting Woodstone Manor's former brothel on the grounds for romance.  Said brothel is run by Dolly Parton, reprising her 1982 role Mona Stangley from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Wisocky and her fellow ghostly cohorts are slated to appear as Ghosts' large roster limits their appearances, so expect a lot of sex in the air for Woodstone Manor's beloved Ghosts.

CBS to Launch Franchise Based on So Help Me Todd, Three Spinoffs to Debut in Fall 2023

CBS is giving another show of support to one of the biggest hit shows to ever air, this season's breakout legal comedy-drama, So Help Me Todd. The record-breaking ratings smash starring Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin has lit up the ratings charts this season and earned a quick pickup for season two. Now, the network is moving full steam ahead with a full investment in a franchise based on the groundbreaking hit series, because if there's one thing people love more than one show about a lawyer and her son named Todd, it's four shows about a lawyer and her son named Todd. Beginning next season, Thursday nights on CBS will be devoted fully to the Toddiverse, with So Help Me Todd anchoring the night and accompanied by new spinoffs For The Love of Todd, For Todd's Sake and Todd Help Us. For The Love of Todd and For Todd's Sake are said to be half-hour comedies, while Todd Help Us will be on the more dramatic side. Casts have not been announced for these new series, but CBS is said to be looking at former Diff'rent Strokes star Todd Bridges to lead the cast of one of the comedies, while OJ Simpson trial prosecutor Marcia Clark is eyeing a return to television in a leading role in Todd Help Us and Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd is rumored to join the cast of an undisclosed series in the Todd franchise.

FOX Reboots Ghosted, Whoopi Goldberg to Assume the Lead She Played in Ghost

 ..

Ghostly encounters seem to be the rage in 2023.  Ghosts is often CBS' number one comedy, and ABC spritzed a little creativity and shook up its boiler plate comedy formula with Not Dead Yet.  FOX has decided to join the trend and is reviving its failed 2017-18 comedy Ghosted for the upcoming season.  Craig Robinson has committed to reprising his role as Leroy Wright, but Adam Scott has limited availability to return as Max Jennifer.  FOX has devised refreshing the sitcom by implementing heralded comedienne Whoopi Goldberg to reprise her 1990 Ghost Role as Oda Mae Brown.  This bold move perhaps could reinvigorate the failed premise which was axed in 2018.

ABC Picks Up Goldbergs Reboot, Starring Anthony Anderson, Chris Rock and Will Smith

Did ABC's 2013-23 run feel taxed, saddening and exhausting as the show disintegrated the last two years?  ABC recognized this and is handling the matter appropriately.  They shall give the ruined show a proper time to rest, then shall spam the same formula in fall 2023.  The genius concept is ABC has opted to update the cast to be with it and has Anthony Anderson headlining as Murray Goldberg.  Jada Pinkertt-Smith has signed on to reinvent Beverly Goldberg, right down to retiring that huge fried hair for something more sensible.  Perhaps this is a stretch as Pinkett-Smith is better skilled at dramatic delivery over slapstick farce.

But ABC recognized she was the leading star in last year's Oscar Ceremony despite not having a speaking part, and they had to have her.  Yes, she's approaching 52 which is age appropriate to play opposite Anderson as he is approaching 53 in August.  But is ABC reaching too far as they have her father Albert Solomon to be played by Chris Rock, who hit 58 in February?  Further icking up the roster of signed players is Pinkett-Smith's husband Will Smith (aged 54) is slated to play 49-year old Anderson's father Ben, whom eventually bitchslaps his daughter's father-in-law and demands "keep my daughter-in-law's name out of your fucking mouth!" which a confused Albert looks confused and responds "shit just got real!"

So the adults in the cast are cemented in their roles, but what about Erica, Barry and Adam?  43-year old Kevin Hart has been secured to play Adam Goldberg, 66-year old Jenifer Lawrence has agreed to be cast as teenage Erica, and 62-year old Laurence Fishburne has signed on as angsty teenager Barry Goldberg.

What a refreshing update to this tired show.  Are you excited to see Goldbergs rebooted with a more fitting cast?

Blue Bloods Renewed for Season 14

CBS continues to solidify its schedule for next season, as another show with a previously-outstanding fate has received a renewal. Blue Bloods, CBS's Friday at 10 staple, is the latest show to get the green light for another season, leaving just three shows on the Tiffany Network that are yet to be renewed or canceled. Cast contracts are what held up the renewal for the solidly-rated Blue Bloods, with its cast agreeing to pay cuts in order to secure a fourteenth season. With NCIS: Los Angeles on its way out this season, Blue Bloods is now CBS's second-longest-running scripted series, only behind NCIS. The show has remained a reliable ratings performer for CBS over the years, this year drawing a 0.40 in the key 18-49 demo and regularly drawing one of the largest audiences on Friday nights. Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes and Len Cariou lead the cast and have since its debut in 2010. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Grey’s Anatomy Renewed for Season 20

One of broadcast TV's longest-running series will extend its historic run, as ABC has renewed Grey's Anatomy for another season. The series is the longest-running primetime medical drama in history, and will ring in its milestone twentieth season next year. Though the series saw numerous new ratings lows this year, dropping 28% to a 0.46 average, it is still a strong linear and digital performer for ABC, ranking as their #4 series and #2 drama in there key 18-49 L+SD demographic. The series made headlines earlier this year when Ellen Pompeo, who portrayed the series' titular lead character Meredith Grey, exited the series after nineteen seasons as its leading lady. James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson are the only original stars remaining on the series now, and appear alongside Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, Camilla Luddington and Caterina Scorsone, among others. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

NBC Renew/Cancel Week 18: Grand Crew Gets the Grand Slam

The NBC Renew/Cancel is back after a week off with some further dissection of NBC's disastrous Friday comedy lineup, in light of some recent unfortunate ratings. Keep reading for a prediction update and my reasoning for why one of these shows remains a good bet for renewal.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit and Accused Renewed by Fox

Fox is handing second-season renewals to both of its midseason drama entries this season, as they have announced renewals for Alert: Missing Persons Unit and Accused. Both dramas had NFL-assisted premieres, an early sign of support from the network. Alert aired behind Fantasy Island on Mondays, and tried its best to hold its own in spite of a week lead-in. It ultimately averaging 0.25 for its Monday run, a few hundredths ahead of Fantasy Island. Accused enjoyed much more favorable circumstances, airing behind Fox's #2 drama, 9-1-1: Lone Star. Despite a solid start, it dropped quickly and averaged 0.29 behind Lone Star's 0.49. While neither show was a breakout for Fox, they both performed markedly better than fall bomb Monarch, and rate towards the middle of Fox's programming crop. Alert stars Scott Caan, Dania Ramirez and Ryan Broussard, while Accused is an anthology series with a rotating cast that featured names such as Margo Martindale, Michael Chiklis and Whitney Cummings in its inaugural season. Both shows are correct predictions for The TV Ratings Guide.
