The Bullpen Season 5 Episode 6: Sunday Morning Baseball

Saturday TV Ratings 7/30/22: Furious 7 OK, Below Average MLB Tops Abysmal Night (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC's showing of 2015 film 'Furious 7' (0.19) was fairly mediocre and placed third in the 8PM hour. Fox's 'MLB Regional Coverage' (0.26, -0.09) dealt with noticeable slippage but was still the evening's top program. ABC's 'UFC 277' broadcast (0.23) came within striking distance of 'MLB' and led into a repeat of 'Shark Tank' (0.18). CBS had unremarkable reruns of 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.15) and '48 Hours' (0.14/0.19). The CW was nonexistent with encores of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.07), 'Would I Lie To You?' (0.04), and 'Masters of Illusion' (0.03/0.05).

Finals Update: 'MLB Regional Coverage' (+0.1) adjusted up. Repeats of 'Would I Lie To You?' (-0.1) and 'Masters of Illusion' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Friday TV Ratings 7/29/22: Secret Celebrity Renovation Stays Low in Return, The Fatal Flaw Hits New High in New Slot, Dropping WWE SmackDown Leads

Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (0.25) returned five-hundredths higher than its September 2021 season finale (0.20) but could only manage to secure the third-place slot in its hour. Reruns of 'Blue Bloods' (0.16/0.20) occupied the 9-11PM stretch. Over on ABC, 'The Fatal Flaw' (0.31, +0.07) climbed to a new series high for its first episode since being shipped to Fridays. Much of that growth is likely a result of being placed in a more cushiony 8PM timeslot, as opposed to the more challenging 10PM slot it occupied on Thursday nights. Despite the passable performance, 'Flaw' was bested by the 9PM edition of '20/20' (0.33). Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.52, -0.10) dropped by a full tenth but still beat out its competitors. NBC had middling repeats of 'American Ninja Warrior' (0.22) and 'Dateline' (0.28). The CW had lifeless encores of 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.07) and 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.04/0.04).

Finals Update: 'WWE Smackdown' (+0.1), 'Secret Celebrity Renovation' (+0.1), the 9PM repeat of 'Blue Bloods' (+0.1), and 'Dateline' (+0.1) adjusted up. The two reruns of 'World's Funniest Animals' (-0.1; -0.1) adjusted down.

Thursday TV Ratings 7/28/22: The Con Returns Low, Generation Gap Takes a Hit, Big Brother Nears Season High (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'Press Your Luck' (0.46, +0.03) grew by three-hundredths after taking a week off for the January 6 hearings, but 'Generation Gap' (0.35, -0.06) slid down to its weakest rating to date. After building on 'Luck' during its first week and staying close behind it for episode two, this is a very disappointing third showing for 'Gap', signaling that it may not be as strong as it initially appeared. At 10, 'The Con' (0.23) returned in meager fashion, going two-hundredths below its finale from March 2021 (0.25). On CBS, 'Big Brother' (0.78, +0.07) gained a whopping seven-hundredths and was surrounded by reruns of 'Young Sheldon' (0.31), 'Ghosts' (0.30), and 'CSI: Vegas' (0.20). Fox had a middling encore of 'MasterChef' (0.24) and an anemic pair of 'Welcome to Flatch' repeats (0.12/0.10). NBC went with reruns of 'Law & Order' (0.21), 'SVU' (0.28), and 'Organized Crime' (0.20). As usual, 'SVU' was a good bit higher than the other two. The CW aired reruns of 'Walker' (0.04) and 'The Flash' (0.04).

Finals Update: 'Press Your Luck' (+0.1) and 'Big Brother' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 7/27/22: Big Brother Leads, The Challenge: USA Slightly Up, MasterChef and So You Think You Can Dance Dip (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.75, +0.05) was up by five-hundredths on a week-to-week basis while 'The Challenge: USA' (0.42, +0.02) inched up to its highest rating to date. At 10, the 'SWAT' repeat (0.17) lost a hundredth when compared to the week-ago one. 'MasterChef' (0.42, -0.06) and 'So You Think You Can Dance' (0.29, -0.01) both declined on Fox, as did 'Wellington Paranormal' (0.02, -0.02) on the CW. 'Wellington' led into a rerun of itself (0.02) and was dwarfed by the 8PM edition of 'Mysteries Decoded' (0.05, 0.00). ABC had decent repeats of 'The Conners' (0.27), 'The Goldbergs' (0.20), and 'Press Your Luck' (0.24). The encores of 'Abbott Elementary' (0.16) and especially 'Home Economics' (0.12) paled in comparison. NBC went with reruns of 'Chicago Med' (0.24), 'Chicago Fire' (0.25), and 'Chicago PD' (0.28), with each one building on the previous.

Finals Update: The repeat of 'The Conners' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 7/26/22: Snake in the Grass Preview Middling, America’s Got Talent Rises, CBS Takes Second with FBI Franchise Repeats (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC's 'America's Got Talent' (0.77, +0.14) had a massive rebound after last week's middling performance, placing it well above the other networks. At 10, a preview of new series 'Snake in the Grass' (0.34) retained an unsatisfactory 44% of 'Talent' and was barely stronger than reruns on ABC and CBS. On ABC, reruns of 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.35) and 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.32) performed noticeably better than the 9PM encore of 'Generation Gap' (0.27). CBS went with similar-sized repeats of 'FBI' (0.30), 'FBI: International' (0.27), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.27). Fox encores of 'Crime Scene Kitchen' (0.19) and 'Fantasy Island' (0.12) could not hold a candle against the big three networks. The CW's 'Tom Swift' (0.05, +0.01) picked up a hundredth and matched the 8PM repeat of 'Superman & Lois' (0.05).

Finals Update: 'America's Got Talent' (+0.1) and the repeat of 'Generation Gap' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Monday TV Ratings 7/25/22: The Bachelorette Easily Leads the Night, The Neighborhood Encore Takes Second, American Ninja Warrior Steady, In the Dark Slips (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC powerhouse 'The Bachelorette' (0.74, +0.03) grew by three-hundredths and topped the night effortlessly. 'Claim to Fame' (0.37, 0.00) only managed to tie last week's installment and retained just half of the 'Bachelorette' rating. CBS's encore of 'The Neighborhood' (0.42) was almost a full tenth higher than the week prior and was the second highest-rated broadcast of the night. Subsequent reruns of 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.32), 'NCIS' (0.24), and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.21) were significantly weaker than 'Neighborhood'. On NBC, 'American Ninja Warrior' (0.35, 0.00) matched its week-ago delivery and led into a respectable 'Weakest Link' repeat (0.31). Fox's repeats of 'Don't Forget the Lyrics!' (0.28) and 'Beat Shazam' (0.28) posted matching 0.28 ratings. 'Roswell, New Mexico' (0.06, -0.03) and 'In the Dark' (0.03, -0.02) crumbled on the CW.

Finals Update: Repeats of 'Don't Forget the Lyrics!' (+0.1) and 'Beat Shazam' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee Canceled by TBS

The mass exodus of TBS programming continues, as the network is now saying goodbye to its long-running late night series Full Frontal With Samantha Bee after seven seasons. The series, hosted by former Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee, debuted on the network in 2016 to strong ratings. Ratings have declined over the years, with its most recent final season notching a 54% decline as it moved from Wednesdays to Thursdays. The series will not return for additional episodes this fall after its customary summer break, and its June 23 episode will now function as its series finale. Full Frontal aired 218 episodes over its run.

Sunday TV Ratings 7/24/22: Big Brother Up for Two-Hour Episode, The Final Straw Rises, Celebrity Family Feud, Pyramid and Who Do You Think You Are? Slip (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: A two-hour episode of CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.68, +0.06) grew by six-hundredths when compared to last Sunday, serving as the evening's top telecast yet again. A solid rerun of '60 Minutes' (0.43) led into 'Brother' while a meager encore of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.17) led out of it. On ABC, the 'America's Funniest Home Videos' repeat (0.39) returned to the 7PM hour, but 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.50, -0.01) actually declined by a hundredth despite the lead-in improvement. At 9, 'The Final Straw' (0.39, +0.05) enjoyed a healthy rebound while 'The $100,000 Pyramid' (0.37, -0.02) dipped by two-hundredths. NBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are?' (0.20, -0.02) shed two-hundredths and was outpaced by the 8PM 'Weakest Link' encore (0.27). In the 9PM hour, the 'World Track & Field Championships' (0.35) were a full tenth higher than they were on Saturday (0.25). Reruns of 'Beat Shazam' (0.16), 'The Simpsons' (0.16), and 'The Great North' (0.15) were abysmal on Fox. 'Bob's Burgers' (0.19) and 'Family Guy' (0.20) picked up the slack a touch in the 9PM hour. The CW's 'Riverdale' (0.04, -0.01) lost a hundredth and was bested by the 9PM 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' rerun (0.05).

Finals Update: 'Big Brother' (+0.1), 'Celebrity Family Feud' (+0.1), 'The Final Straw' (+0.1), and repeats of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1), 'Beat Shazam' (+0.1), 'The Simpsons' (+0.1), and 'Weakest Link' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Saturday TV Ratings 7/23/22: Track and Field World Championships Decent, MLB Leads, Superstar Racing Experience Drops (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Fox's 'MLB Regional Coverage' (0.35, -0.05) declined by five-hundredths but still beat every other Saturday evening program on the major broadcast networks. NBC's telecast of the 'Track and Field World Championships' (0.25) settled for second place and nearly tripled the meager repeat of 'The Wall' (0.09) that preceded it. ABC had a passable trio of repeats that consisted of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.22), 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.24), and 'Shark Tank' (0.20). CBS's 'Superstar Racing Experience' (0.12, -0.04) shed four-hundredths and was put to shame by the 10PM '48 Hours' encore (0.16). The CW had reruns of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.08), 'Would I Lie To You? US' (0.06), and 'Masters of Illusion' (0.07/0.07).

Finals Update: 'MLB Regional Coverage' (+0.1) and the repeat of '48 Hours' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Friday TV Ratings 7/22/22: Blood & Treasure Preview Modest, WWE SmackDown Rises (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's preview of Paramount+ drama 'Blood & Treasure' (0.18) completely underwhelmed in the 9PM hour, trailing the rerun of 'Blue Bloods' (0.23) that led into it and the one that led out of it (0.23). ABC's encores of 'Shark Tank' (0.33) and '20/20' (0.30) eclipsed the Tiffany network, as did NBC's repeats of 'American Ninja Warrior' (0.24) and 'Dateline' (0.25). On Fox, 'WWE Smackdown' (0.62, +0.15) soared to its strongest rating since late January. The CW offered up another round of 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.06) and 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.05/0.06) reruns.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary ratings.

Thursday TV Ratings 7/21/22: January 6th Committee Hearings Sink Well Below Previous Primetime Hearing, CBS’s 1/6 Broadcast Trails Week-Ago Young Sheldon Rerun & Big Brother (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Despite having no serious competition, the 'January 6th Committee Hearings' were significantly lower than they were the last time they aired in primetime. ABC's broadcast led the way once again in the Adults 18-49 demographic (0.44 rating) and in total viewers (3.98 million). The alphabet network was down a staggering 33% when compared to the June 9th hearings (0.66) and also declined over 20% in terms of viewership (3.98m vs. 5.22m). NBC's telecast (0.41) declined by a much softer 15% in the ratings when stacked up against June 9 (0.48). However, the peacock network dealt with a much steeper decline when it came to total viewership, losing just over a million in that metric (2.69 million vs. 3.7 million). CBS took last yet again, managing a laughable 0.26 rating. This goes over 30% below the 6/9 demo (0.38) and trails the 'Young Sheldon' repeat (0.32) that occupied the timeslot last week. The Fox network went with repeats of 'MasterChef' (0.16) and 'Welcome To Flatch' (0.12/0.11) that declined on a week-to-week basis. The CW's encores of 'Walker' (0.05) and 'The Flash' (0.05) gained a hundredth apiece.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary ratings.

Wednesday TV Ratings 7/20/22: The ESPYS Rise from 2021 Low, Big Brother Leads, MasterChef Sets New Season High (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The '2022 ESPYS' (0.42) rose by a whopping 75% from the 2021 ceremony (0.24) that aired in an undesirable Saturday timeslot. Despite that impressive gain, ABC's broadcast of the awards show only ranked third in its timeslot. On CBS, 'Big Brother' (0.70, +0.04) and 'The Challenge: USA' (0.40, +0.04) both grew by four-hundredths when compared to last week's episodes. The 10PM repeat of 'SWAT' (0.18) was two-hundredths higher than its week-ago counterpart. 'MasterChef' (0.48, +0.04) climbed to a new season high on Fox, but 'So You Think You Can Dance' (0.30, -0.03) widened the gap between itself and 'Chef' by slipping further. On the CW, 'Wellington Paranormal' (0.04, 0.00) was stable on finale night and was followed by a repeat of itself (0.04) that posted the same rating. Earlier in the evening, 'Mysteries Decoded' (0.05, 0.00) also matched its week-ago delivery. NBC had another helping of 'Chicago Med' (0.27), 'Chicago Fire' (0.30), and 'Chicago PD' (0.29) encores.

Finals Update: 'Big Brother' (+0.1), 'MasterChef' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'Chicago Med' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 7/19/22: MLB All-Star Game Down from 2021, Dancing With Myself Finale and America’s Got Talent Drop (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC juggernaut 'America's Got Talent' (0.63, -0.10) dropped by a full tenth and set a new season low in the process. The season finale of 'Dancing with Myself' (0.33, -0.06) declined alongside 'Talent', but the series managed to avoid a new low on finale night. On Fox, the '2022 MLB All-Star Game' (1.55) dipped by a little more than 15% from the 2021 game (1.84) but still stood above every other broadcast of the evening. The CW's 'Tom Swift' (0.04, +0.02) rebounded a touch after last week's fall, likely because the 'Superman & Lois' rerun (0.05) that led into it was three-hundredths higher than it was seven days prior. ABC was all over the place with repeats of 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.35), 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.21), and 'The Rookie' (0.14). CBS had far more stability with encores of 'FBI' (0.22), 'FBI: International' (0.21), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.24).

Finals Update: '2022 MLB All-Star Game' (+0.3) adjusted up.

Monday TV Ratings 7/18/22: The Bachelorette and Beat Shazam Inch Down, Don’t Forget the Lyrics Rises After Breaks, Claim to Fame Ticks Up (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC was essentially stable with last week as 'The Bachelorette' (0.71, -0.01) shed a hundredth and 'Claim to Fame' (0.37, +0.01) gained one. 'Fame' offset the 'Bachelorette' decline and made the average of the evening identical to the week prior. 'Don't Forget the Lyrics!' (0.33, +0.03) rose by three-hundredths on Fox for its first episode since late June. 'Beat Shazam' (0.32, -0.02) failed to climb alongside 'Lyrics' and instead dropped by two-hundredths. NBC's 'American Ninja Warrior' (0.35, -0.01) lost a hundredth and led into another encore of 'Weakest Link' (0.25). CBS's repeats of 'The Neighborhood' (0.33), 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.29), 'NCIS' (0.27), and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.28) were all higher than the July 11th encores. Dramas 'Roswell, New Mexico' (0.09, +0.04) and 'In the Dark' (0.05, +0.02) made noteworthy gains on the CW.

Finals Update: 'The Bachelorette' (+0.1) and 'Claim to Fame' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 7/17/22: Celebrity Family Feud, The Final Straw and Big Brother Tumble, The $100,000 Pyramid and Who Do You Think You Are? Rise (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Instead of airing the usual 'AFV' rerun in the 7PM timeslot, ABC went with a significantly weaker encore of new series 'Claim to Fame' (0.20). That clearly hurt 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.51, -0.17) to an alarming degree, sending the game show to a rating only a hundredth higher than its series low. 'The Final Straw' (0.34, -0.08) dropped alongside 'Feud', dropping a little less than 20% from a premiere rating that was already quite lackluster. Amidst these harsh declines, 'The $100,000 Pyramid' (0.39, +0.05) miraculously gained five-hundredths after returning with a new series low the week prior. NBC series 'Who Do You Think You Are?' (0.22, +0.08) also built on a meager launch, clawing its way up to a semi-decent rating in the 7PM hour. A rerun of 'America's Got Talent' (0.26) and a telecast of the 'World Track and Field Championships' (0.26) did decent business in the 8-11PM stretch. On CBS, 'Big Brother' (0.62, -0.10) was a tenth shy of last Sunday's outing but was close to doubling its '60 Minutes' lead-in (0.35). Reruns of 'The Equalizer' (0.19) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.19) were even weaker than last week. Fox's encores of 'Beat Shazam' (0.14), 'The Simpsons' (0.19), 'The Great North' (0.15), and 'Family Guy' (0.21) were all either a hundredth or two higher than they were on July 10th. The 'Bob's Burgers' (0.20) rerun climbed by four-hundredths in comparison. The CW's 'Riverdale' (0.05, -0.01) shed a hundredth and led into another 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' repeat (0.05).

Finals Update: 'The $100,000 Pyramid' (+0.1) and 'World Track & Field Championships' (+0.1) adjusted up.

The Bullpen Season 5 Episode 5: Home Run Derby

Saturday TV Ratings 7/16/22: Transplant Ends Slightly Higher, MLB Down, Superstar Racing Experience Rises, Track & Field Decent on NBC (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC's 'Transplant' (0.13, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths for its season finale and led into a broadcast of 'Track & Field Championships' (0.23) that performed a full tenth better. On CBS, 'Superstar Racing Experience' (0.16, +0.05) grew by five-hundredths and matched the repeat of '48 Hours' (0.16) that followed it. Fox's 'MLB Regional Coverage' (0.40, -0.09) was almost a tenth lower than the week prior. ABC was in the mix with encores of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.21), 'The Final Straw' (0.18), and 'Shark Tank' (0.18). The CW's 'Masters of Illusion' (0.05, +0.02) gained two-hundredths and led into a repeat of itself. The 8PM hour was occupied by encores of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.07) and 'Would I Lie To You?' (0.05).

Finals Update: 'MLB Regional Coverage' (+0.1) and 'Superstar Racing Experience' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Friday TV Ratings 7/15/22: WWE SmackDown Leads, Shark Tank Encore Takes Second (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.47, 0.00) held even and predictably topped the night.
