Ratings Analysis: Though it was down by almost 21% from its February 2021 premiere (1.17), ABC's 'American Idol' (0.93) returned in relatively solid shape and bested its May season finale (0.88). The programs surrounding 'Idol' clearly benefited from its return, with 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.65, +0.21) surging at 7 and 'The Rookie' (0.44, +0.11) climbing to a new season high in the 10PM slot. CBS's '60 Minutes' (0.68, +0.16) rose by nearly two-tenths, but 'The Equalizer' (0.58, -0.10) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.49, -0.03) slipped for their first installments in nearly two months. In the 10PM timeslot, 'SWAT' (0.45, +0.03) narrowly beat out 'The Rookie' and topped its hour. Fox's animation lineup was fully intact for the first time since December, but 'The Simpsons' (0.39, -0.29), 'The Great North' (0.28, -0.14), and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.40, -0.10) plummeted to new season lows. 'Family Guy' (0.42, -0.06) avoided a new low and was the highest-rated of the four sitcoms. The 7PM hour was occupied by a 'NASCAR'-inflated rerun of 'The Simpsons' (0.70) and a 'Call Me Kat' encore (0.26) that went higher than its last original episode. NBC aired repeats of 'America's Got Talent: Extreme' (0.34), 'The Endgame' (0.19), and 'Law & Order' (0.15). The CW's 'March' (0.03, -0.03) was 50% lower than the last time it aired and lost to the 'All American: Homecoming' repeat (0.04) that led into it.

Finals Update: '60 Minutes' (+0.1), 'The Equalizer' (+0.1), 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1), and 'SWAT' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: Host John Mulaney and musical guest LCD Soundsystem took over 'Saturday Night Live' (0.86, +0.04) and helped the show rise by four-hundredths for its first and only February 2022 episode. A few hours prior, NBC aired a pair of 'Dateline' reruns (0.25/0.26) and 'SNL Vintage' (0.33). ABC had moderate success with 'NBA Countdown' (0.29) and the 'Nets v. Bucks' basketball game' (0.61). CBS had a rerun of 'The Equalizer' (0.19), a 'SWAT' encore (0.14), and a sinking '48 Hours' (0.23, -0.03). Fox's 'MLS Soccer' (0.13) was barely any stronger than last week's '9-1-1' encore (0.12). The CW's 'Great Chocolate Showdown' posted its fourth 0.05 rating in a row and led into an original episode of 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.04). The 9:30PM 'Funniest Animals' encore (0.05) outdid the new one that aired before it.

Finals Update: 'NBA: Nets v. Bucks' (+0.2) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'Shark Tank' (0.55, -0.01) shed a hundredth for its first episode in a month and lead-out '20/20' (0.47) retained a solid portion of that rating. 'WWE Smackdown' (0.57, +0.03) gained three-hundredths on Fox and topped the evening altogether. On NBC, 'The Blacklist' (0.28, -0.13) crashed to a season low for its Friday debut. Airing after a low-rated rerun of 'The Endgame' (0.18), 'Dateline' (0.31, -0.18) declined dramatically in the 10PM hour. CBS's 'Undercover Boss' (0.39, +0.06) picked up six-hundredths while 'Magnum PI' (0.43, -0.02) lost two. 'Blue Bloods' (0.47) was completely steady at 10. On the CW, 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.10, +0.03) grew by three-hundredths and led into repeats of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.07/0.07).

Finals Update: 'WWE SmackDown' (+0.1), 'Blue Bloods' (+0.1) and 'Shark Tank' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Screen-Shot-2022-02-25-at-12-29-57-AM

Ratings Analysis: Though it fell a bit short of being the highest-rated program of the night, the 'Law & Order' revival (0.74) got off to a stellar start on NBC. That positive momentum seemed to help spinoff dramas 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.68, +0.05) and 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' (0.52, +0.03) grow by five-hundredths and three-hundredths respectively. ABC had a phenomenal evening as 'Station 19' (0.75, +0.13) and 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.78, +0.17) soared for their first episodes since December. This was the highest 'Station' rating since its September 2021 premiere and marked a new season high for 'Grey's. In comparison, 'Big Sky' (0.30, +0.03) only managed to scrape together a few extra ticks at 10. After being off for several weeks, 'Young Sheldon' (0.63, -0.10), 'United States of Al' (0.47, -0.07), 'Ghosts' (0.55, -0.13), and 'B Positive' (0.44, -0.02) all dropped by varying degrees on CBS. At 10, canceled drama 'Bull' (0.41, +0.03) was the only show of the lineup to rise. Over on Fox, 'Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer' (0.30, -0.01) and 'Call Me Kat' (0.25, -0.05) declined as newbie 'Pivoting' (0.19, +0.01) rose by a single hundredth. Leading out of a rerun of 'Walker' (0.06), The CW's 'Legacies' (0.07, -0.02) shed two-hundredths.

Finals Update: 'Station 19' (+0.1), 'United States of Al' (+0.1), 'Grey's Anatomy' (+0.1), 'Ghosts' (+0.1), and 'Call Me Kat' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: After 21 days off the air, ABC comedies 'The Goldbergs' (0.56, -0.10), 'The Wonder Years' (0.38, -0.10), 'The Conners' (0.49, -0.09), and 'Home Economics' (0.33, -0.09) were all a tenth lower than the last time they were on. At 10, drama 'A Million Little Things' (0.28, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths for its midseason return. On CBS, 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.69, +0.28) enjoyed a solid surge for its season finale and was well above last Wednesday's episode (0.54). 'The Amazing Race' (0.54, +0.07) gained seven-hundredths at 9, but 'Good Sam' (0.26, -0.12) plummeted in the 10PM timeslot. 'Chicago Med' (0.81, +0.01) and 'Chicago PD' (0.72, +0.02) inched up on NBC, but 'Chicago Fire' (0.77, -0.08) took a noticeable hit. Fox was up across the board with 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.38, +0.02) and 'Next Level Chef' (0.44, +0.04). 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.08, -0.04) and 'Batwoman' (0.11, -0.01) slipped on the CW.

Finals Update: 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1), 'Celebrity Big Brother' (+0.1), 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1), 'The Wonder Years' (+0.1), 'Chicago Fire' (+0.1), and 'Good Sam' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 2/22/22: To Tell The Truth Return Near Low, Jeopardy! National College Championship Hits High for Finale, Abbott Elementary Rebounds, This Is Us Down After Break (UPDATED)
Screen-Shot-2022-02-23-at-3-00-21-AM

Ratings Analysis: The final installment of ABC's 'Jeopardy! National College Championship' (0.79, +0.29) soared well above all previous outings and was the highest-rated telecast of the night. That strong lead-in seemed to help 'Abbott Elementary' (0.64, +0.23) climb all the way up to series high territory after hitting a new low just one week prior. 'Black-ish' (0.43, +0.13) was also able to bounce back, but 'To Tell the Truth' (0.31) had a pretty meager return in the 10PM timeslot. On NBC, sitcoms 'American Auto' (0.38, +0.01) and 'Grand Crew' (0.30, +0.02) enjoyed minor upticks, but dramas 'This Is Us' (0.73, -0.05) and 'New Amsterdam' (0.34, -0.03) dropped when compared to their last episodes. CBS's 'FBI' (0.61, -0.02), 'FBI: International' (0.53, -0.07), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.54, -0.01) all dipped for their first episodes in nearly a month, with 'International' dealing with the sharpest decline. On Fox, 'The Resident' (0.36, -0.06) and 'The Real Dirty Dancing' finale (0.19, -0.06) were down by six-hundredths apiece. The CW's 'Superman & Lois' (0.16, +0.01) gained a hundredth as 'Naomi' (0.09) held flat.

Finals Update: 'Jeopardy! National College Championship' (+0.1) and 'The Resident' (+0.1) adjusted up.

The Blacklist Renewed for Season 10

The Blacklist Renewed for Season 10
james-spader-raymond-reddington-3-1634861646054

Veteran NBC drama The Blacklist has secured another season, with lead actor James Spader announcing the tenth season renewal today during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Despite its long run on the network, the show has been a very weak live ratings performer for NBC in recent years, posting only a 0.35 18-49 average for its most recent season thus far. That makes it one of the lowest-rated NBC shows, as well as one of the lowest-rated broadcast shows overall. However, it has a lucrative deal with Netflix that makes the show highly profitable. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

THE-ENDGAME-Pilot-Episode-101-Pictured-l-r-Morena-Baccarin-as-Elena-Federova-Ryan-Michelle-Bathe-as-

Ratings Analysis: Though its post-'Olympics' preview (0.50) was fairly mediocre, NBC's 'America's Got Talent: Extreme' (0.71) turned out to be a solid edition to the network's lineup and topped the evening for its first official episode. At 10, new drama 'The Endgame' (0.46) definitely had some life in it on premiere night, retaining well over 60% of 'AGT: Extreme'. ABC's 'The Bachelor' (0.67, +0.02) settled for second place but still grew by two-hundredths on a week-to-week basis. At 10, flop drama 'Promised Land' (0.18, +0.03) rose a bit for its final ABC episode. The remaining five episodes of the series will air on the streaming service Hulu. Fox's lineup weakened some more as both '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.58, -0.04) and 'The Cleaning Lady' (0.39, -0.05) posted new lows for the second week in a row. Airing behind reruns of 'The Neighborhood' (0.51) and 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.40), CBS's 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.41, -0.09) dropped by a little less than a tenth. Fresh off of a two-month hiatus, The CW's 'All American' (0.17, -0.07) came back seven-hundredths lower than its winter finale (0.24). At 9, spinoff series 'All American: Homecoming' (0.14) got off to a middling start.

Finals Update: 'The Bachelor' (+0.1), '9-1-1: Lone Star' (+0.1), and 'The Endgame' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: Airing right after the 7PM 'Beijing Gold' telecast (0.55), the '2022 Winter Olympics' (0.95, -0.01) ticked down to its weakest rating yet for the closing ceremony. NBC used that lead-in to preview 'America's Got Talent: Extreme' (0.50) at 10:30, but the spinoff series barely retained half of the 'Olympics' rating. CBS had a solid edition of '60 Minutes' (0.52) that helped 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.50, +0.24) rebound from Saturday's horrific showing. Reruns of 'The Equalizer' (0.22) and 'SWAT' (0.20) tapered off from there. ABC had a strong rerun of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.49), but 2021 film 'Summer of Soul' (0.15) and a repeat of 'The Wonder Years' (0.11) were at disastrous levels, even by current TV rating standards. Over on Fox, a sneak-peek 'Masked Singer' special (0.54) performed quite well in the 7PM slot. Reruns of 'Call Me Kat' (0.27), 'The Simpsons' (0.25), 'The Great North' (0.21), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.21), and 'Family Guy' (0.24) were relatively in the same range. The finale of 'Two Sentence Horror Stories' (0.05/0.05) was up by two-hundredths from its last pair of originals (0.03/0.03) on the CW. An encore of 'All American' (0.04) started off the night at 8.

Finals Update: '2022 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony' (+0.3), 'Celebrity Big Brother' (+0.1), 'America's Got Talent: Extreme Preview' (+0.2), and the repeat of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'The Masked Singer Sneak Peak' (-0.2) adjusted down.

Saturday TV Ratings 2/19/22: Winter Olympics Hit Low for Final Primetime Competition of 2022, Celebrity Big Brother and Great Chocolate Showdown Tie Lows (UPDATED)
sui-han-gold

Ratings Analysis: The '2022 Winter Olympics' (0.96, -0.12) somehow slipped further on Saturday evening, falling below a 1.0 rating for the first time in its run. Though NBC still outpaced all rival networks, these ratings are nothing short of awful for such a prestigious event. 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.26, -0.19) completely collapsed on CBS, sinking to the pitiful low it posted on Super Bowl Sunday. Airing after the 9PM repeat of itself (0.20), '48 Hours' (0.26, -0.02) lost two-hundredths in the 10PM timeslot. ABC had 'Jeopardy! National College Championship' reruns (0.17/0.21/0.23) that crushed Fox's encores of '9-1-1' (0.12) and 'The Cleaning Lady' (0.09). The CW's 'Great Chocolate Showdown' (0.05) held even for the third week in a row and led into repeats of 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.04/0.03).

Finals Update: '2022 Winter Olympics' (+0.3), 'Celebrity Big Brother' (+0.1), and '48 Hours' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Screen-Shot-2022-02-19-at-2-42-43-AM

Ratings Analysis: The '2022 Winter Olympics' (1.08, -0.30) simply could not catch a break on NBC, this time barely keeping itself above a 1.0 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Over on the Fox network, 'WWE Smackdown' (0.54, -0.01) shed a hundredth and beat out another outing of ABC's 'Jeopardy! National College Championship (0.50, -0.11) head-on. After 'Jeopardy!', a rerun of '20/20' (0.46) was shockingly stout in the 9PM slot. On CBS, 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.45, -0.09) was a tenth shy of Wednesday's installment and led into a rerun of 'Blue Bloods' (0.24). The CW aired encores of 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.06) and 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.05/0.08).

Finals Update: '2022 Winter Olympics' (+0.2), 'Jeopardy! National College Championship' (+0.1), and the repeat of '20/20' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: Though it remained a far cry from its 2018 levels, the '2022 Winter Olympics' (1.38, +0.20) gained two-tenths on NBC and outperformed Wednesday's unsettling low. ABC's 'Jeopardy! National College Championship' (0.61, +0.09) grew by a tenth and led into low-rated encores of 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.24) and 'Big Sky' (0.15). On Fox, 'Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer' (0.31, +0.05) was up by five-hundredths, but sitcoms 'Call Me Kat' (0.30, -0.05) and 'Pivoting' (0.18, -0.06) crumbled. CBS had reruns of 'Young Sheldon' (0.44), 'United States of Al' (0.35), 'Ghosts' (0.33), 'B Positive' (0.30), and 'Bull' (0.21). The CW aired encores of 'Walker' (0.07) and 'Legacies' (0.04).

Screen-Shot-2022-02-17-at-11-36-43-AM

Ratings Analysis: Following a few days of stability, the '2022 Winter Olympics' (1.18, -0.36) collapsed on NBC, with the ceremony crashing to its weakest performance on record. On ABC, the 'Jeopardy! National College Championship' (0.52, +0.03) recovered a bit and led into the season finale of 'The Chase' (0.37/0.31). The latter was up by a healthy amount from last week (0.34/0.27) in both hours. CBS's 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.54, +0.13) was over a tenth higher than Monday night's episode but six-hundredths lower than the previous Wednesday (0.60). 'The Amazing Race' (0.47, -0.08) declined in the 9PM hour and was followed by an 'NCIS' encore (0.23). 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.36) was flat on Fox, but 'Next Level Chef' (0.40, -0.02) dealt with some minor slippage. The CW's rerun of 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.09) was three-hundredths higher than last week's encore (0.06) while the 9PM repeat of 'Batwoman' (0.04) tied its week-ago delivery.

Finals Update: The '2022 Winter Olympics' (+0.1), 'The Chase' at 9 PM (+0.1), 'The Amazing Race' (+0.1), and 'I Can See Your Voice' (+0.1) adjusted up.

That trend continued as the evening progressed as promising sitcom 'Abbott Elementary' (0.41, -0.16) completely crashed after weeks of staying in the 0.6 range. Veteran comedy 'Black-ish' (0.30, -0.11) and the season finale of 'Queens' (0.20, -0.03) failed to buck the downward trend. On NBC, the '2022 Winter Olympics' (1.54, +0.07) rose by seven-hundredths and unsurprisingly topped all other offerings. Fox's 'The Resident' (0.42, -0.01) lost a hundredth while 'The Real Dirty Dancing' (0.25, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths. CBS went with reruns of 'FBI' (0.38), 'FBI: International' (0.31), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.25). The CW had encores of 'Superman & Lois' (0.07) and 'Naomi' (0.04).

Finals Update: The '2022 Winter Olympics' (+0.1), 'The Real Dirty Dancing' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'FBI: Most Wanted' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Promised Land Pulled from ABC Schedule

Promised Land Pulled from ABC Schedule

The all-but-promised cancellation of Promised Land has come. The soap has been yanked from the ABC lineup after just four episodes, which averaged only a 0.20. The show aired behind The Bachelor, posting abysmal retention and rating even below repeats that aired in the slot earlier this year. It will air episode five next week on ABC, as initially planned, before the remainder of its episodes are dumped on Hulu. ABC had a lot of gain from this move, as their top 10 PM drama, The Good Doctor, will now be able to return ahead of schedule (its midseason debut is set for February 28), potentially helping it avoid spilling over into Summer. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Ratings Analysis: The Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals faced off, hip-hop royalty took the stage during the halftime show, and viewers tuned in by the millions for NBC's broadcast of 'Super Bowl LVI'. The 56th 'Super Bowl' posted a colossal 29.47 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic, putting it a solid 11% above the 2021 game (26.48). In terms of total viewers, the 99.2 million it posted in that category was over 7 million more than the previous year's figure (91.6 million). At 10, the 'Post-Game' (16.94) rose by 10% from the year-ago edition (15.46). The '2022 Winter Olympics' (5.61) was the direct lead-out to this event and was also 10% higher than what 'The Equalizer' (5.08) posted in this timeslot in 2021. CBS foolishly decided to air an original episode of 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.26, -0.16) against the 'Super Bowl', causing the spinoff series to plummet to its lowest rating to date. The 7PM '60 Minutes' (0.15) was also negatively impacted by the game. From there, the Tiffany network aired reruns of 'The Equalizer' (0.11) and 'SWAT' (0.18). For the third year in a row, ABC scheduled reruns of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.17/0.17) and 'Shark Tank' (0.10/0.18) against the main attraction. Fox went with reruns of 'The Simpsons' (0.12), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.12), more 'Simpsons' (0.13), 'The Great North' (0.09), more 'Bob's' (0.08), and 'Family Guy' (0.10). The CW barely even registered at all with repeats of 'March' (0.02) and 'Two Sentence Horror Stories' (0.01/0.01).

Ratings Analysis: Airing after the 'Super Bowl' did just about nothing for the '2022 Winter Olympics' (1.47) but at least it was a tenth higher than Saturday's disappointing showing (1.37). Outside of NBC's continued domination, ABC's 'The Bachelor' (0.65, -0.01) inched down and led into a sinking edition of Hulu-bound 'Promised Land' (0.15, -0.03). On Fox, '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.62, -0.04) and 'The Cleaning Lady' (0.44, -0.03) both slid down to series lows. CBS's 'The Prices Is Right At Night' (0.53) was over two-tenths lower than its last broadcast from January (0.74) but still held its own against 'Bachelor' and 'Lone Star'. 'Celebrity Big Brother' (0.41, +0.15) improved from the episode that aired against the 'Super Bowl' but remained on the lower-end of its usual delivery. At 10, the 'NCIS Hawai'i' rerun (0.24) was four-hundredths higher than last Monday's encore. 'March' (0.06, -0.03) and the '4400' finale (0.04, -0.03) lost three-hundredths apiece on the CW.

Finals Update: The '2022 Winter Olympics' (+0.1) and 'The Bachelor' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'Promised Land' (-0.1) adjusted down.
