Finals Update: 'Frosty the Snowman' (1.0, +0.1) adjusted up while 'How Murray Saved Christmas' (0.7, -0.1), a repeat of 'Lethal Weapon' (0.5, -0.1), and a repeat of 'Dateline' (0.8, -0.1) adjusted down.
The major networks pounded it out at 8pm, cannibalizing each other by offering up different holiday specials head-to-head. NBC came out of the rubble victorious with 'Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas' (1.2) easily topping the other holiday toons. While it was a good bit below what it has done in the past on weekdays, it's still 100% higher than what 'Caught on Camera' would do in the slot. Following 'Grinch', 'How Murray Saved Christmas' (0.8) couldn't stir up much of an audience and lost much of its lead-in. A repeat of 'Dateline' (0.9) picked up the slack and won its hour.
CBS came in second with 'Frosty the Snowman' (0.9) and 'Frosty Returns' (0.8), both results are well below what the network usually does on the night but still respectable by holiday special standards. Repeats of 'MacGyver' (0.6) and 'Blue Bloods' (0.7) had solid outings in the 9pm and 10pm slots.
ABC had a 'Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town' (0.8) special that fell well below a typical 'Last Man Standing' outing. After 'Santa' came a repeat of 'Shark Tank' (0.7) and the only original of the night, '20/20' (0.6). The latter was down a tenth from its last episode and miserably lost to a 'Blue Bloods' repeat head-on.
FOX stayed out of the holiday special business with repeats of 'Lethal Weapon' (0.6) and 'Lucifer' (0.4). The 'Weapon' encore actually matched the last original installment of 'The Exorcist'
The CW had 'Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer' (0.3) and a repeat of 'Penn and Teller: Fool Us' (0.3), the latter performed markedly better then an average 'Crazy-Ex Girlfriend'.
