First Week Peak: Sugar Will Miss The Top Spot + Predictions for America’s Sweethearts, I Will Find You, and The Agency

Welcome to First Week Peak, a column which discusses shows that are about to premiere on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu, and/or Apple TV. Each discussion concludes with a prediction for the show's weekly peak performance on their respective streaming service's U.S. trending chart, including a reader poll. Final results can be found in our weekly What's Trending On Streaming column. Let us know what you think in the comments!

America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (Season 3)
Premieres: June 16 on Netflix
Genre: Docuseries
Synopsis: Follow the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders from auditions to training camp and the NFL season as they chase their dreams and a coveted spot on the squad.

Going For It/The Precedent
America's Sweethearts has a history of performing well on Netflix's weekly Top 10 Shows chart in the United States as an early summer docuseries. It debuted at #5 in Season 1, and #3 in Season 2, both of which also premiered in mid-June.

Going Against It
It's possible viewers grow tired of the niche premiere of the docuseries, in which case it would have a tougher time competing against Netflix's many new series (and Lawmen: Bass Reeves).

Daily Peak Prediction: #2 on Netflix

I Will Find You (Season 1)
Premieres: June 18 on Netflix
Genre: Crime drama miniseries
Synopsis: An innocent father serving life for the murder of his own son receives evidence that his child may still be alive -- and must break out of prison to find out the truth.

Going For It
I Will Find You is based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben. It is the latest in a long line of miniseries produced by the famous novelist based off his work for Netflix, and was already capable of a 4.5 Buzz Score over two weeks before its premiere.

Going Against It
I Will Find You's Buzz Score has since declined to a 1.2, unable to maintain the solid mark it held on June 1.

The Precedent
As a book, I Will Find You debuted as a #1 New York Times Bestseller. Coben's most recent series, Run Away, debuted at #2 on the weekly US TV Shows chart in January.

Daily Peak Prediction: #2 on Netflix

Sugar (Season 2)
Premieres: June 19 on Apple TV
Genre: Mystery drama
Synopsis: An enigmatic private detective struggles with personal demons as he investigates the disappearance of a Hollywood producer's beloved granddaughter.

Going Against It/The Precedent
It's been over two years since Sugar's first season finale on May 17, 2024. Apple's television streaming service has premiered 16 new scripted dramas and undergone a (minor) name change since then. In fact, the first season of Sugar predates the existence of our What's Trending On Streaming column. What we do know is it took five months until the finale aired, and three months after its Emmy nomination for cinematography, to score its second season renewal. Its 2.6 Buzz Score ranks it 20th on Apple TV.

Going For It
Sweet Magnolias over-performed on Netflix this past week, so there's no saying Sugar will definitely face a sophomore slump. There's also no clear-cut leader on Apple TV right now, with three shows rotating through the top spot this past week.

Daily Peak Prediction: #4 on Apple TV

The Agency (Season 2)
Premieres: June 21 on Paramount+
Genre: Spy thriller drama
Synopsis: Covert CIA agent Martian is ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind unexpectedly reappears, their romance reignites, pitting his career, his real identity and his mission against his heart while hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

Going For It
The Agency currently holds a 2.1 Buzz Score, the 10th-highest on Paramount+. It still has quite some time to go before it premieres next Sunday as well, by which point that score likely will have grown.

Going Against It
Baseline Paramount+ subscribers will not be able to watch The Agency. As a former Showtime original, it will only be available on the higher-priced Paramount+ with Showtime tier, which could affect its viewership ceiling.

The Precedent
The Chi holds a 1.9 Buzz Score and peaked at #3 on Paramount+'s Top 10 Shows chart in the US this past week. The Agency will air in its entirely on the streaming service before its linear premiere, whereas The Chi remains a linear original.

Daily Peak Prediction: #1 on Paramount+
