NBC Renew/Cancel: Update on 'Timeless' + 'Chicago Med' Moves Up

Hello everyone, it's Luke! Long time no see! So far my freshman year of college has been pretty hectic so I haven't been able to commit a lot of time to the NBC Renew/Cancel Watch. However, things have been clearing up lately so I should be back in full swing pretty soon! NBC has announced some noteworthy scheduling updates today (see here), so let's take a look at my new predictions.

KEY
  • Show title (Average adults 18-49 rating / most recent rating)

CERTAIN TO BE CANCELED
  • None
LIKELY TO BE CANCELED
  • Timeless (1.4 / 1.1)
NBC has announced that Timeless will be getting three more episodes to bring its total to 16. The show will end on February 20, with Taken taking over following the Spring cycle of The Voice. Although Timeless was planned to have a shorter season from the very beginning, I feel as if its ratings just don't warrant a renewal. The sole factor that could save it is if NBC has a disastrous midseason. We will see...

COULD GO EITHER WAY
  • Blindspot (1.3 / 1.1)
Blindspot's ratings have been very VERY similar to its timeslot predecessor, The Mysteries of Laura, from last season. Laura did NOT make it out alive with these ratings, so why would Blindspot? Let's put it this way...the landscape of TV ratings have DRAMATICALLY declined, even from last season. Blindspot has showed a nice stability at a decent level (1.1-1.3 being "decent" is very scary, I know). This said "stability" could be a big factor when determining the show's fate. However, NBC as a whole hasn't been having the worst season by any means, so it is also very likely that they will just dump Blindspot without thinking twice. Right now, the fate of Jane Doe and friends is very uncertain.

LIKELY TO BE RENEWED
  • The Blacklist (1.2 / 1.2)
  • The Good Place (1.5 / 1.2)
  • Superstore (1.3 / 1.3)
At one point, I almost considered moving The Good Place down to "could go either way," but the show had a nice rebound this past week and will indeed keep its status as "likely to be renewed." I've said it before, and will say it again...Superstore and The Good Place have come together to form NBC's most successful comedy block in quite a while. You will very likely be seeing them next year.

CERTAIN TO BE RENEWED
  • Chicago Fire (1.7 / 1.6)
  • Chicago Med (1.3 / 1.5)
  • Chicago P.D. (1.4 / 1.3)
  • Law & Order: SVU (1.5 / 1.5)
  • This Is Us (2.6 / 2.4)
Chicago Med showed a nice rebound to a 1.5 this past week, which made me realize that this show isn't going anywhere. I had it as "likely to be renewed" up until now because of its slow start, but let's be honest...Chicago Med isn't going anywhere. It has the word "Chicago" in its title and Dick Wolf as an executive producer. What was I thinking?

UPCOMING
  • The Blacklist: Redemption
  • The Carmichael Show
  • Chicago Justice
  • Emerald City
  • Great News
  • Grimm (final season)
  • Marlon
  • Midnight, Texas
  • Powerless
  • Taken
  • Trial & Error
POLL OF THE WEEK
