FOX Renew/Cancel Watch: Grandfathered Downgraded, Brooklyn 9-9 Gets Its Own Category

Why The Downgrade for Grandfathered?
A couple days ago I moved Grandfathered up to the "Watching" column because of the fact that Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life and Bordertown were doing downright awful in the ratings. I said that it could help Grandfathered's case. However, it got a 0.8 today (rounded up, by the way), and while it seems to be an OK fit with New Girl thematically, viewers aren't really coming to the show. Combine that with the fact that FOX won't be getting potential syndication revenue down the line and I think this show is done. There's still a chance, but it would require The Last Man On Earth to stumble at the gate on its return.

Certain to be Renewed on Some Platform? What The Heck Kind of Category is That?
Last season, The Mindy Project was infamously canceled by FOX after three seasons, breaking the unspoken rule that three full seasons guarantees a fourth. See, NBCUniversal owned Mindy, not FOX. NBCUniversal also co-owns Hulu with FOX and ABC, and The Mindy Project was renewed for a 4th and 5th season there. Now, Brooklyn 9-9 is doing kind of bad on Tuesdays, that's no secret if you follow the ratings. In fact, it's DOWN from The Mindy Project's performance last season this week. When you take league average drops into account you see that both shows are of very similar ratings strength. While I think fans of Brooklyn 9-9 will have the opportunity to see another season of the show, they may need a Hulu subscription to do so. It could really go either way if it stays on FOX at this point, and I highly doubt they keep that two-hour comedy block intact. So while Brooklyn 9-9 is still a certain renewal, I'm not so sure if it's going to be on FOX.
