Jessica's Fall 2016 Schedule Predictions - December 2015

Hey folks, this is Jessica. I regularly predict the fates of shows on the CW Renew/Cancel Watch. I also am the writer for Jess's Take and TV Flops Worse Than (insert failing show here). I am going to post schedule ideas for each of the five networks, and give my analysis and reasoning behind my choices. This is the end of the Fall 2015 edition, and I'll predict again sometime before the end of midseason. Ready? Here we go!

ABC
Sunday
7:00 - America's Funniest Home Videos
8:00 - Once Upon a Time/Galavant/Once Upon a Time
9:00 - Quantico
10:00 - New Drama/Secrets & Lies

Monday
8:00 - Dancing with the Stars/The Bachelor/Dancing with the Stars
10:00 - Agents of SHIELD/Agent Carter/Agents of SHIELD

Tuesday
8:00 - The Middle
8:30 - The Goldbergs
9:00 - Shark Tank
10:00 - Beyond the Tank

Wednesday
8:00 - black-ish
8:30 - Fresh Off the Boat
9:00 - Modern Family
9:30 - New Comedy
10:00 - New Drama/American Crime/New Drama

Thursday
8:00 - Grey's Anatomy
9:00 - Scandal
10:00 - How to Get Away With Murder

Friday
8:00 - Last Man Standing
8:30 - Dr. Ken
9:00 - What Would You Do?
10:00 - 20/20

Analysis: ABC comedy is doing reasonably well, but the Tuesday comedy lineup is underperforming in their respective time slots. What I think that ABC should do is move The Middle and The Goldbergs back to Tuesdays, and move Fresh Off the Boat back to Wednesdays.

The Tuesday 10pm slot continues to be a major problem for the network. Wicked City was pulled from the schedule. Forever failed in the time slot. As a suggestion, ABC may need to move Shark Tank to Tuesdays, as a lead-in to Beyond the Tank.

In order to rebuild Sundays, I think that Quantico needs to move to 9pm. A new limited series drama would have to be launched at the 10pm slot, then let Secrets & Lies take over

Unlike many people, I think that both Castle and Nashville will be canceled. Both are pulling in very low ratings. Castle is showing its age, and the leads may want to throw in the towel. In Nashville's case, extraneous factors such as music sales can only go so far, and ultimately, the ratings will become too low for ABC to renew it.

CBS
Sunday
7:00 - 60 Minutes
8:00 - Madam Secretary
9:00 - Hawaii Five-O
10:00 - Elementary

Monday
8:00 - The Big Bang Theory/2 Broke Girls
8:30 - Mom
9:00 - Scorpion
10:00 - Limitless

Tuesday
8:00 - NCIS
9:00 - NCIS: New Orleans
10:00 - New Drama

Wednesday
8:00 - Survivor
9:00 - New Drama
10:00 - NCIS: Los Angeles

Thursday
8:00 - The Big Bang Theory
8:30 - Life in Pieces
9:00 - New Comedy
9:30 - The Odd Couple or Angel from Hell
10:00 - New Drama

Friday
8:00 - The Amazing Race/Undercover Boss/The Amazing Race
9:00 - Criminal Minds
10:00 - Blue Bloods

Analysis: This is a bad season for new dramas. Supergirl and Limitless started off strong, but eventually faded. Criminal Minds is underperforming this season at its 9pm time slot. Elementary has crashed in the ratings.

Here's what I think CBS should do. Move Criminal Minds to Fridays. Time for Survivor to launch a new drama. Hawaii Five-O moves to Sundays along with Elementary. In order to have this schedule, I think that CBS will cancel Supergirl, The Good Wife, Code Black (although may be uncanceled and retooled as a cheap summer medical drama), Person of Interest, and Mike & Molly.

CW
Monday
8:00 - Penn & Teller: Fool Us
9:00 - Whose Line is it Anyway?
9:30 - New Show

Tuesday
8:00 - The Flash
9:00 - Supernatural

Wednesday
8:00 - Arrow
9:00 - New Show

Thursday
8:00 - DC's Legends of Tomorrow
9:00 - New Show/The 100

Friday
8:00 - The Originals/New Show
9:00 - Jane the Virgin

Analysis: Mondays are becoming a huge problem for the network. This season, it's one of the reasons why the network is down 11% from last season. The Vampire Diaries continues to decline in the ratings (Thanks, Nina!). Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has even flopped.

What I think The CW should do when programming these 10 hours would be to add a reality block on Mondays, consisting of Penn & Teller: Fool Us at 8pm, followed by Whose Line is it Anyway? at 9pm, leaving 9:30 for a new half hour show. Possibly either a sitcom produced by CBS or a reality show. Jane the Virgin would move to Fridays, because a ratings decline is likely in midseason at 9 after The Originals, which is likely to get a short final season. Then a new show will launch as a companion to Jane the Virgin.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow would launch a new show on Thursdays, then have The 100 take over for midseason.

I think that Arrow needs to launch a new show on Wednesdays, which means Supernatural moves to Tuesdays with The Flash as a lead in. If moved to Thursday behind Legends, there is a good possibility that the show will eventually move back to Fridays after a decline in ratings, and plus Thursday is the most expensive ad night of the week.

I think that iZombie, Containment, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and The Vampire Diaries will be canceled. Reign will move to summer for its fourth and final season.

FOX
Sunday
7:00 - Animated Reruns/The OT
7:30 - Bob's Burgers
8:00 - The Simpsons
8:30 - The Guide to Surviving Life
9:00 - Family Guy
9:30 - New Comedy

Monday
8:00 - Gotham
9:00 - New Drama/Possibly X-Files

Tuesday
8:00 - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
8:30 - New Girl
9:00 - Scream Queens

Wednesday
8:00 - New Drama
9:00 - Empire

Thursday
8:00 - Rosewood
9:00 - Bones or New Drama

Friday
8:00 - MasterChef Junior/MasterChef
9:00 - New Reality/Hell's Kitchen

Analysis: Fridays is basically reality night on FOX. I think that a new drama would have to air before Empire for Empire tune in. If Bones returns, Rosewood would be paired with it. If Bones doesn't, Rosewood launches a new drama.

Family Guy will be used to launch a new comedy. Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl will be at 8:00 and 8:30 respectively, while Scream Queens will be a pity renewal and go on Tuesday 9pm.

Gotham will be used to launch a new drama, as usual. Family Guy will be used to launch a new comedy.

Lucifer, Second Chance, Grandfathered, The Grinder, World's Funniest, and Minority Report will be canceled.

NBC
Monday
8:00 - The Voice
10:00 - New Drama

Tuesday
8:00 - The Voice
9:00 - New Comedy
9:30 - Superstore
10:00 - Chicago Fire

Wednesday
8:00 - New Drama
9:00 - Law & Order: SVU
10:00 - Chicago PD

Thursday
8:00 - Chicago Med
9:00 - Blindspot
10:00 - New Drama

Friday
8:00 - Undateable
8:30 - The Carmichael Show
9:00 - The Blacklist
10:00 - Dateline

Analysis: To be honest, I think that The Blacklist will have to move to Fridays at 9pm. Grimm will be canceled. I don't think that NBC would want to have two new comedies premiere in fall. Undateable would be another pity renewal, because WB will likely negotiate for a season four. Chicago Med lead out Blindspot would have to launch a new drama. And like always, there's The Voice launching two new shows.
