Jess's Take: Renewals and Cancelations of TV Shows

Hey folks, this is Jessica. And this is the latest installment of Jess's Take on TV. You may wonder why I have a picture of the Grim Reaper on this post. In this installment, I will compare the renewal and cancelation predictions of each show currently on the air. Without further ado, here are the predictions for each selected show.

1. Blood & Oil (ABC)
TVBTN: DSW - Dead Show Walking
TV Grim Reaper - Canceled
TV Watch US - Effectively Canceled
TVLine: A long shot
TV Ratings Guide Prediction: Certain to be Canceled

Analysis: Based on this consensus, this is a dead show walking. It got its episode order cut to 10 episodes.

My verdict: Based on the episode cut, it's definitely canceled!

2. Bones (FOX)
TVBTN: Toss Up
TV Grim Reaper: Likely to be Canceled
TV Watch US: Likely Renewal
TVLine: A safe bet.
TV Ratings Guide Prediction: Likely to be Renewed

Analysis: Very little consensus on this one. As I reported in my first installment, there are currently two Bones related lawsuits against 20th Century Fox for unpaid royalties.

My verdict: With these lawsuits, Bones might as well be dead. It's a likely cancelation.

3. The Good Wife (CBS)
TVBTN: Likely to be Canceled
TV Grim Reaper: Toss Up
TV Watch US: Toss Up
TVLine: A safe bet.
TV Ratings Guide Prediction: Likely to be Canceled

Analysis: Again, no consensus, although I do think that TVLine's prediction was a little too optimistic. The Good Wife's ratings are look away low. Expect a final season announcement any day now.

My verdict: The Good Wife better have it's final season announcement soon with those atrociously bad ratings, and it is obviously too expensive to justify season eight. It's certain to be canceled.

4. The Mysteries of Laura (NBC)
TVBTN: Likely to be Canceled
TV Grim Reaper: Certain to be Canceled
TV Watch US: Likely Cancelation
TVLine: A safe bet.
TV Ratings Guide Prediction: Likely to be Canceled

Analysis: TVLine's prediction is way too optimistic. Based on the partial backorder, my guess is that The Mysteries of Laura may have been a pity renewal at best.

My verdict: Gorman is definitely too harsh on predicting the show's eventual demise, but I do think that the partial backorder will doom it even though it's fairly steady in the ratings. And it's owned by an outside studio. I will go with likely to be canceled.

5. Reign (CW)
TVBTN: Toss Up
TV Grim Reaper: Likely to be Renewed
TV Watch US: Likely Renewal
TVLine: A long shot.
TV Ratings Guide Prediction: Likely to be Renewed

Analysis: Reign got a shortened season of 18 episodes. Despite being the second lowest rated show on the network, it is owned by CBS.

My verdict: Since I do the predictions for the CW, you already know my verdict. CBS affirmative action will likely give it a season four.

Question: Does anyone have any ideas on what I should make my next installment about? Let me know in the comments below!
