NBC Renew/Cancel: 'Timeless' Certain to be Canceled

Hello, everyone! Welcome to the latest edition of the NBC Renew/Cancel Watch! Included in this article...an update on Timeless, the addition of Powerless, and the renewal news of The Good Place! After reading my thoughts in this article, leave your own thoughts in the comments below! I will respond!

KEY
  • Show title (Average adults 18-49 rating / Most recent rating)

CANCELED
  • Grimm (0.8 / 0.7) [Final season]
CERTAIN TO BE CANCELED
  • Emerald City (0.8 / 0.6)
  • Timeless (1.1 / 0.6)
Emerald City continues to keep hitting 0.6 in the ratings. It is definitely dead, for nothing can save it at this point.

Timeless is the newest addition to the "certain to be canceled" section. For a while, Timeless was consistently getting 0.9s in the ratings, so I had it listed as "likely to be canceled." However, when the show reached a whole new low at a 0.6 rating on Monday, I knew there was absolutely no hope for the show. Sorry to all of the fans of Timeless, but you will not be seeing a season two of this show.

LIKELY TO BE CANCELED
  • Blindspot (1.1 / 1.0)
  • Powerless (1.0 / 0.8)
Powerless garnered a 1.1 and a 0.8 rating for its first two episodes, which already puts it at "likely to be canceled." NBC will already have Superstore, The Good Place, the Will & Grace reboot, most likely the new sitcom "Happy Peppers," potentially Trial & Error or Great News, and a few more new sitcoms for next season, so Powerless's already-dismal ratings do not warrant another season. There is just simply not enough room for it on next year's schedule. The only two things that are saving it from certain cancellation at this point are the fact that it has only aired two episodes and we don't know how the rest of its season's ratings will look and the possibility of NBC doing a comedy expansion and needing this show to fill one of the holes.

COULD GO EITHER WAY
  • None
LIKELY TO BE RENEWED
  • The Blacklist (1.1 / 0.9)
The Blacklist has finally gone fractional, so why is it still likely to be renewed? NBC has recently been notorious for rewarding its veteran hits-of-the-past with shortened, final seasons (ex. Chuck, Parenthood, Grimm), so The Blacklist will most likely be another case of that. It is not a certain renewal, however, because I realize the fact that NBC is going to be very jam-packed next season with their scheduling and the Peacock's executives may just not even think a renewal is worth it. Only time will tell...

CERTAIN TO BE RENEWED
  • Chicago Fire (1.6 / 1.5)
  • Chicago Med (1.3 / 1.1)
  • Chicago P.D. (1.4 / 1.3)
  • Law & Order: SVU (1.5 / 1.6)
  • Superstore (1.2 / 1.1)
Nothing new here...

RENEWED
  • The Good Place (1.3 / 1.1)
  • This Is Us (2.6 / 2.6) [Two-season renewal]
The second addition to NBC's "renewed" section is none other than...The Good Place! This show has pulled in relatively weaker ratings, but it has been a very consistent performer and never once went fractional. It even held its own when it had to lead-off the night for its one-hour season finale.
