NBC Renew/Cancel: 'Superstore' Renewed, 'Powerless' Most Likely Canceled

KEY
  • Show title (Average adults 18-49 rating / Most recent rating)

CANCELED
  • Grimm (0.8 / 0.8) [Final season]
CERTAIN TO BE CANCELED
  • Emerald City (0.7 / 0.6)
  • Timeless (1.1 / 0.9)
Despite reports of a slight chance of renewal for Timeless, I am sticking to my prediction. Sure, the show may have a lot of inside support and an opportunity to air in a different time slot, but, in the end, a decision of renewal is certainly not likely. It is just not a good business/financial decision for NBC and that is going to be the biggest factor deciding its fate.

The same exact things stated above for Timeless can also be said for Emerald City. Do not get your hopes up for a season 2.

LIKELY TO BE CANCELED
  • The Blacklist: Redemption (0.8 / 0.8)
  • Blindspot (1.1 / 0.8)
  • Powerless (0.9 / 0.7)
The new spin-off of The Blacklist, similarly-titled The Blacklist: Redemption, premiered to a 0.8 rating following a 0.9 rating of its mothership in the previous hour. I usually like to start off shows that have only aired one episode in the "could go either way" category, but this is a show that wasn't even needed in the first place and will certainly not be needed next season. NBC already has too many shows that have already been renewed, will certainly get a renewal, or are currently in the development stage to have room for this arguably-DOA spin-off.

The series premiere of Powerless managed to get a 1.1, but it quickly fell to a 0.8 and then a 0.7 for the following two episodes. Although NBC seems to be looking to expand its comedy lineup in the coming seasons, Powerless isn't strong enough to be part of that future. NBC will have Superstore, The Good Place, Will & Grace, most likely new multicam Relatively Happy, and probably a few more single cams for next season. Say goodbye to Powerless...

COULD GO EITHER WAY
  • None
LIKELY TO BE RENEWED
  • The Blacklist (1.1 / 0.9)
Although The Blacklist: Redemption will probably be canned, the mothership most likely has at least one season left in it. And that is exactly what I think is going to happen, The Blacklist will be renewed for a shortened, final season just like Chuck, Parenthood, Parks & Recreation, Grimm, and other veteran NBC shows in the past.

CERTAIN TO BE RENEWED
  • Chicago Fire (1.6 / 1.6)
  • Chicago Med (1.3 / 1.2)
  • Chicago P.D. (1.4 / 1.3)
  • Law & Order: SVU (1.5 / 1.3)
RENEWED
  • The Good Place (1.3 / 1.1)
  • Superstore (1.2 / 1.1)
  • This Is Us (2.6 / 2.5) [Two-season renewal]
The newest addition to NBC's renewed category is none other than...Superstore! This marks yet another correction prediction for The TV Ratings Guide. Here's to going for a perfect record this season...
