Put Me In Season 3 Episode 13: Back On The Mound

It is the end of the sixth inning of a playoff game. Making a start for an injured pitcher, CARTER has just thrown six scoreless innings.

LEWIS

There you go, Carter! See, I knew I had faith in you!

CARTER

You moved me to center field.

LEWIS

Yeah.

CARTER

You don’t have faith in me as a pitcher and then move me to center field.

LEWIS

I never said I had faith in you as a pitcher.

CARTER

You implied it. Now hopefully this means I get to make some more playoff starts!

LEWIS

I wouldn’t get too far ahead of yourself.

RAY

Yeah, you really only pitched today because nobody else wanted to.

CARTER

Seriously?

RAY

I probably shouldn’t have said that. But, it’s the truth.

CARTER
I’m not gonna give up hope.

LEWIS
You’d probably only pitch if we’re getting blown out.

CARTER
There are other teams interested in me.

LEWIS
I’m also interested in you.

CARTER raises his eyebrow.

LEWIS

As a PLAYER.

CARTER’s facial expression doesn’t budge.

LEWIS
A baseball player!

CARTER
Got it. So why can’t I pitch more?

LEWIS

The front office doesn’t want your value to go up too much.

CARTER
That makes no sense, the better I do, the more money or better players you can get for me.

LEWIS
Not our front office. The front office of the teams that want you.

CARTER
Well obviously. Nobody wants to pay more than they have to on someone. But why are we caving to them?

LEWIS
Hey, I’m not in the front office, I’m just relaying what I’ve heard.

RAY
Yeah, it doesn’t make much sense to me either. But let me ask you a question straight up Carter: do you want a future with the Charleston Capitols?

CARTER pauses.

CARTER
No. I don’t.

CARTER walks away.
