Put Me In Season 3 Episode 16: Take Me Out (SERIES FINALE)

CARTER is in a meeting with JAIME in her front office one week after the postseason ended.

JAIME

Giving up that home run to that bullpen guy wasn’t your best moment.

CARTER

I’m well aware.

JAIME

So you’re probably wondering why exactly I called you into my office.

CARTER

Yeah, kind of.

JAIME stares at CARTER.

CARTER

Um…

JAIME

Oh sorry. I was just waiting until Ray, Ben, and Lewis got here.

CARTER

Ray, Ben, and Lewis? What do they have to do with this meeting?

JAIME

You’ll see.

CARTER

And you’re sure you told them about it?

JAIME

Yeah, they should be here any minute now.

RAY opens the door and enters the room.

RAY

Sorry I’m late everyone, I—oh, I see I’m actually early.

CARTER

I’m so confused.

LEWIS and BEN immediately walk into the room as well.

LEWIS

I came as soon as I heard.

JAIME

I told you about this meeting five days ago.

LEWIS

Some of us don’t like polluting the environment with gas-powered vehicles.

BEN

That’s what electric cars are for.

LEWIS

Those use batteries which also harm the environment.

CARTER

Since when did you care about any of that?

JAIME

Alright this conversation is going nowhere. Who wants to tell Carter the big news?

LEWIS

I mean you’re the general manager.

BEN

And I’m the second baseman.

JAIME

Carter: I called in two of your most supportive teammates and your manager so you can all hear this at the same time.

JAIME pauses.

RAY

Are you gonna say what it is?

JAIME

I’ve decided, Carter, that if you’d like, to let you walk.

CARTER

You mean…

JAIME

Yes. I mean from the team. We’re only holding you back.

CARTER

So…I can really walk?

JAIME

No! You didn’t let me finish. I decided that at first, but then I decided to just trade you.

CARTER

How did I not see that coming.

JAIME

Good news is, you’re with the Primitives.

CARTER

What?! Among the best pitchers in the entire league?!

JAIME

Not quite. It’s a minor league deal. You’ll be on the Fisher Fishers, their farm team.

CARTER

Alright then. I guess I’ll just have to prove to them I’m worthy of the majors. Just like I did for the Capitols.

LEWIS

Carter, it was nice being able to coach you.

RAY

Yeah, you weren’t so bad to catch either. Usually.

BEN

You were about as good of a pitcher to a second baseman as just about anyone else, I suppose.

CARTER

Thanks guys. I’m looking forward to my new opportunity.

LEWIS

And I’m looking forward to retirement.

JAIME

Alright, I’d say that’s about all we have to discuss at this meeting. Carter, it was an honor getting to be your general manager. I wish you luck with the Primitives’ organization.

CARTER shakes everyone’s hand and exits.
