Edison, I’m pregnant.
Edison stares in silence.
BRITTANEY
Edison.
Edison seems detached from reality.
BRITTANEY
Edison, please say something.
Edison continues staring.
BRITTANEY
Okay, maybe we should sit down.
INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT
Brittaney guides Edison to the couch and they take a seat.
BRITTANEY
Edison, can you please say something, so I know you’re okay.
EDISON
I… I don't know what to say.
BRITTANEY
It’s okay. Take your time.
EDISON
Pregnant. Are you sure?
BRITTANEY
I took the test four times.
EDISON
I took the SAT four times until I got it right. Maybe fifth times the charm.
BRITTANEY
Edison.
EDISON
Right, yeah. I… am the father right?
BRITTANEY
No, Andrew is.
EDISON
I knew it! I knew his whole thing with Sarah was just a coverup to get with you.
BRITTANEY
Edison, you’re obviously the father. You’re the only guy I’ve been with recently.
EDISON
Okay. Well, there’s only one thing to do.
Edison gets on one knee.
EDISON
Brittaney, will you-
BRITTANEY
Stop right there.
EDISON
What?
BRITTANEY
We are not getting married.
EDISON
But Brittaney, you’re pregnant.
BRITTANEY
Yeah, I know.
EDISON
Okay, so what do we do?
BRITTANEY
I… I don’t know.
Edison sits back next to Brittaney.
EDISON
Listen, I am here. Understand? Anything you need I got you.
BRITTANEY
I know.
They smile at each other.
EDISON
So, we’re gonna be parents.
BRITTANEY
Yeah. Yeah, we are.
EDISON
Do we… tell the others?
BRITTANEY
Yeah. Yeah, why not. After all, they're gonna find out eventually.
EDISON
Yeah.
The two sit in silence.
EDISON
Soooooo do you want to spend the night?
BRITTANEY
Uhhhh I should go back to my place.
EDISON
Oh okay. Ummmmmm I can drive you?
BRITTANEY
I drove here.
EDISON
Ah, cool. Well, I guess we’ll tell the others tomorrow?
BIRTTANEY
Yeah. Sounds like a plan.
EDISON
Cool. Of course in that case, wouldn’t it make sense if you stayed here. Otherwise, you’ll just be going back and forth.
BRITTANEY
You… do make a point.
EDISON
You can take my bed. I’ll take the couch.
BRITTANEY
I couldn’t do that.
EDISON
No really, it’s fine. I’ve slept here a few times trying to study.
BRITTANEY
Well, we could share the bed.
EDISON
Yes, we could.
They stare at each other, each wondering if they are both wondering the same thing.
EDISON
We’ll put pillows down the middle.
BRITTANEY
Good idea.
The Next Morning
Edison and Brittaney lie in bed. Two pillows separate them.
EDISON
Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a dream. You’re pregnant right?
BRITTANEY
Yes.
EDISON
Cool cool. I think the others are up.
BRITTANEY
I told Sarah to come over. Are you ready?
EDISON
Yep. Let’s do this.
Edison and Brittaney exit his room. Andrew, Megan, and Paige are sitting at the table.
ANDREW
Are you dating now?
Edison and Brittaney look at each other.
EDISON
Uhhhhhh.
BRITTANEY
It’s not exactly clear yet.
MEGAN
How is it not clear? You two have already slept together and spent the night in YOUR room.
PAIGE
Sounds clear to me.
EDISON
I’m sorry, what are you doing here?
MEGAN
We’re dating, remember?
EDISON
Oh yeah. I still think that’s some nightmare that I keep having.
BRITTANEY
Listen, we have something to tell you all. We’re just waiting for Sarah.
ANDREW
Sarah’s coming over?
EDISON
Yes. Sorry man but...this is kind of important.
ANDREW
What are you sorry for? We’re fine. We're both adults.
EDISON
Uh huh.
Sarah enters the apartment. She and Andrew make eye contact and avoid each other’s gaze.
SARAH
Hey, so what’s up?
The group looks at Edison and Brittaney.
BRITTANEY
I’m- We’re… pregnant.
The group stares at them in silence.
Andrew begins laughing hysterically. The women are staring at Brittaney and Edison in shock. Andrew realizes no one else is laughing.
ANDREW
Wait, are you serious?
Edison and Brittaney nod.
ANDREW
And your positive HE’s the father?
BRITTANEY
No doubt.
ANDREW
Whoa. Well… congrats?
EDISON
Thanks man.
ANDREW
So, what’s the plan?
BRITTANEY
Well, we don't exactly have one.
SARAH
Are you keeping the baby?
EDISON
Of course, she is.
BRITTANEY
And Edison will play a part in raising him or her.
The group just stares.
EDISON
Well, you all are taking this well.
The group continues staring at them.
BRITTANEY
I think you spoke too soon.
EDISON
Yeah, probably. Well, this year’s off to a good start.
