Designated Survivor S1E12 Review

At the end of last week's episode, the thing we have all been waiting for, or at least that I have been waiting for, happened. How will things advance now that Hannah is able to tell Kirkman what she knows?

S1E12 "The End of the Beginning"

The episode begins with Hannah telling Kirkman everything she knows about MacLeish. It was nice that this wasn't dragged out, much like how the last episode didn't drag out the cliffhanger resolution. Later, Kirkman has a strange dream sequence, involving flashbacks to when he was shot and the night of the bombing. He wakes up to his children, who I keep forgetting exist until they show up in an episode. It feels like it's been a long time since we have seen his daughter. Honestly, not much happened with Kirkman this week, which is disappointing after last week he also didn't get much to do. The episode did have a great final moment there, as Alex feels shut out.

Meanwhile, Hannah looks for more information about MacLeish, and finds out who she can push that will go to MacLeish. She is successful in this, and this leads to a somewhat creepy scene between MacLeish and his wife, which I really enjoyed. Things get intense when MacLeish's wife discovers that Hannah was released; the episode is finally really moving again. Hannah and the Secret Service listen in on the conversation MacLeish has with the person Hannah visited earlier, and then Hannah attempts to arrest MacLeish. It is a great scene, as it gets more and more intense, with MacLeish almost getting away, and his wife shooting him and then herself. I really didn't see that coming.

Like last week, much of the episode had too little happening. The final act of this episode, however, was great. I wish the whole episode had moved like that.

Score: 8/10
