Prediction Changes from Last Time
Jane the Virgin downgraded from "Likely to be Renewed" to "Watching".

Fridays vs. Mondays
Now before I get to the reason why I downgraded Jane the Virgin to a toss up, let us look at the comparisons between the Monday and Friday lineups. Last Friday, both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals scored a 0.5 A18-49 rating. A 0.5 is pretty good for Friday standards. Case in point, the Friday lineup is outperforming the Monday lineup, hence my reasoning for keeping The Vampire Diaries as a likely renewal for one more week.

CW Monday lineup average: 0.3
CW Friday lineup average: 0.5

These are the rounded averages taken from TVBTN.

Now for the headline...

Why am I 'Watching' Jane the Virgin?
Jane the Virgin's recent ratings decline is now to the point where the ratings no longer indicate likely renewal. Historically, the CW has canceled shows in its fourth season with ratings that averaged about the same as Jane the Virgin. However, Jane the Virgin is hitting 0.3s in the A18-49 demographic in season 2. The question is, will it be canceled with low ratings, or will its episode count renew it?

Beauty and the Beast averaged a 0.3 A18-49 rating through the majority of season 2, and it had 44 episodes after season 2. It was then renewed for a third season of thirteen episodes, and was renewed for a fourth season ahead of its premiere. Because the ratings were lower for season 3 this past summer, the upcoming fourth season will be the final season of the CBS Studios produced show. Could the same thing happen to Jane? It's too early to tell, but I could see it move to Fridays or planet summer, because I am not sure if the affiliates would be willing to air the low-rated critical darling in its current timeslot for much longer. It will also depend on Reign's ratings before I will make the final call on it.
