iZombie is now likely to be canceled.
For this addendum to the CW Renew/Cancel Watch, I decided to revisit iZombie. Hunter gave me a good point on the reason why Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie are both likely cancelations.
First off, the CW has never given a partial backorder to a sophomore show, until this season. It's really tough to make a case for certain cancelation considering that this is The CW. Anything can happen.
So here are some scenarios:
1. iZombie Renewed, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Canceled
The only schedule slot that would probably make absolute sense at this point would be to put the show on Mondays. The show gets about the same demo ratings without The Flash as support. Time to either give The Flash another show to launch or put a veteran show after it. No Tomorrow, if picked up, is incompatible with Jane the Virgin because it has elements of a genre show.
I think that if iZombie is moved to Mondays, it could either be paired with Riverdale, Supernatural, The Originals, or The Vampire Diaries. The only way this could happen is if Jane the Virgin is demoted to Fridays (current Jane the Virgin ratings are making this move much more likely).
2. Both iZombie and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Canceled
Well, that opens up a new slot for The Flash, and Jane the Virgin. I think that Jane the Virgin, because of its recent ratings decline, will go to Fridays to be paired with The Originals after either The Vampire Diaries concludes its final season, or for the entire third season if renewed. As I said earlier, No Tomorrow is incompatible with Jane the Virgin. Reign was moved to Fridays after a low-rated second season. If Riverdale and No Tomorrow are picked up, one of them will be on the fall schedule. It likely will be Riverdale. If Riverdale has a Monday time slot, that means that one of the veterans would need to move. As far as I'm concerned, Mondays need to be fixed.
3. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Renewed, iZombie Canceled
Crazy Ex would most likely move to summer to prevent pissing off affiliates. The only drawback to this is that it would be ineligible to win another Golden Globe until 2018.
4. Both Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie Renewed
Crazy Ex moves to summer while iZombie moves to another night and is benched for midseason. iZombie can't go to Thursday's because of competition from TGIT (the female skewing night for ABC). It's also incompatible with both Arrow & Legends of Tomorrow. So iZombie would be demoted to Mondays or Fridays for midseason.
If anything, any hybrid of these scenarios could happen.
The observer will note that The Vampire Diaries is now certain to be renewed. Look for the headline next week.
