Why Is Lucifer A Certain Renewal?
FOX |
fact that Lucifer is fitting like a glove with fellow DC drama Gotham in a spot that isn't a surefire for success, I think it's safe to say that the show will be coming back. Much like Quantico on ABC, even though the ratings aren't the best in the world, since I can't really picture a scenario without it on the schedule, why not make it a certain renewal? It has lost a lot of its audience since the premiere, but it's managed of not being in danger of going fractional on a network where that is starting to be the norm.
Why Is The Last Man On Earth A Certain Renewal?
At this point, FOX really needs The Last Man On Earth, and for several reasons:
-It has yet to go fractional, and kept all its audience from the midseason premiere
-Only 5 of 10 FOX comedies can boast that they aren't consistently fractional
-FOX seemingly has an excellent relationship at the time with executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Their production company, Lord Miller Productions, has a series order for Son of Zorn and it's been reported that FOX is very high on the Making History script, which now has a pilot order and is also from them
-It receives a solid amount of critical buzz. Some say that doesn't matter, but it can.
-FOX owns the show
-Even being one of the higher-rated L+SD FOX comedies, only about 40% of the audience watches live. There are still a lot of people out there watching it online, which is also now a monetized television platform.
-It has a relatively young audience of M18-34, which is a highly-coveted, hard-to-reach demographic

for The Last Man On Earth. I expect to see it on the schedule next season. Whether that be in the fall or not remains to be seen, but I see this as a staple FOX comedy next to New Girl and the animations sans Bordertown.
