Fred: CEO
Kevin: CFO
Gregory: General Manager
Christina: Director of Marketing & Promotions
Ruthie: Project Manager
OPEN: Factory of SugarCity. FRED, KEVIN, CHRISTINA, and RUTHIE approach GREGORY.
GREGORY
There you all are!
FRED
You said to meet you in the lobby.
GREGORY
Oh, did I? My bad.
RUTHIE
You’re lucky I thought of suggesting we look up here for you.
GREGORY
Anyways, I’d say it’s about time we teach our workers how to make an AGRUS.
FRED
This is so exciting, my first product as CEO is really coming together!
KEVIN
And not that anyone asked, but we do have it in our budget to make this new product with real ingredients.
CHRISTINA
What did you think we’d use, fake ingredients?
KEVIN
I don’t know, there are cheaper ways to make things than with the traditional ingredients you’ll find in your grandma’s kitchen.
FRED
I don’t think I’ll be going into my grandma’s kitchen anytime soon…if you know what I mean.
KEVIN
Oh I’m so sorry.
FRED
Oh no she’s still alive, she just hates me. I really made her angry at her 105th birthday party.
CHRISTINA
What’d you do?
FRED
Told her happy birthday.
CHRISTINA
Oh?
FRED
Let’s just focus on the product. And remember: this should go without saying, but everyone treat our factory workers with the dignity and respect they deserve.
FRED opens the door to the factory.
RUTHIE
Everyone listen up, we’re showing you how to make a new product and if you don’t do it right you’re fired.
FRED
Ruthie, perhaps I should’ve been more clear and say that they deserve dignity and respect.
RUTHIE
They need consequences, otherwise they won’t learn.
FRED
They’re not preschoolers.
GREGORY
Since I’m sure they’re all happy to see me, allow me to demonstrate.
GREGORY finds such and pours it onto a conveyor belt. A factory worker, MARY, runs over to him.
MARY
Wait! That’s not how you do it!
GREGORY
Oops.
MARY
It’s alright. What’s a little extra sugar.
RUTHIE
Allow me to demonstrate the rest.
RUTHIE pours a random variety of other ingredients she sees lying around.
MARY
This is not how you make candy at all. But now that we know the ingredients, us factory workers can handle this.
MARY loads the ingredients the proper way. Soon after, AGRUS bars are being produced.
CHRISTINA
Quite impressive!
GREGORY
My floor workers over there! I manage them!
CHRISTINA
Good work Gregory.
MARY rolls her eyes.
FRED
What Christina means to say is good work Mary.
MARY
Thank you Fred.
RUTHIE
Shouldn’t we try these things?
KEVIN
The more we try, the less we have for the customers.
FRED
We don’t want to sell something that tastes terrible though.
GREGORY reaches for the conveyor belt and takes a bite of an AGRUS bar.
GREGORY
Eh. Not bad actually. Then again I don’t really eat much candy so what do I know.
KEVIN
Just for the record, I’m not the one who cost SugarCity pennies trying something that’s, quote on quote, not bad.
CHRISTINA
Who cares how it tastes, all it needs is good packaging and marketing.
FRED
Speaking of which, how’s that wrapper design coming along, Ruthie?
RUTHIE
Oh it’s coming along real well. I can’t wait for you all to see it!
