Promised Land: ABC debuted a new drama last week, putting The Good Doctor on hiatus to give it a post-Bachelor slot. Unfortunately, that new drama became the lowest-rated broadcast premiere in history, with just a 0.22 in the key 18-49 demo. While The Bachelor has long been noted as an absolutely toxic lead-in with no guarantee of helping the 10 PM show (longtime ratings followers will remember Quantico's 0.6s behind 2.5s from The Bachelor), this is a pathetic performance under any circumstance. Queens is a flop, too, but it's never done this poorly, let alone on premiere night. Not only does Promised Land not deserve a renewal, it doesn't even deserve to continue occupying space on the lineup, not when The Good Doctor is waiting in the wings. It's a CERTAIN CANCELLATION.

Queens: Speaking of Queens, the music drama is on a brief hiatus right now, but it still experienced the most positive news in all of its run. With Promised Land bombing, Queens immediately has one less hurdle for a renewal. It's clear that, if ABC insists on renewing a freshman drama, it will be Queens. I still wouldn't bet on that, though. Queens is doing terribly in its first-run airings, and seems to have less going for it than other 10 PM flops like Big Sky, A Million Little Things and The Rookie, and ABC didn't give it any sort of episode extension despite not even having any scripted shows to replace it with. That isn't a sure sign of cancellation, but it seems to say that it's not a priority for ABC. It remains a LIKELY CANCELLATION, but its odds aren't as long as they were in a world in which Promised Land was still in contention.
