Abbott Elementary: ABC's newest sitcom has somehow turned into one of broadcast's buzziest shows. While broadcast comedies rarely enjoy online buzz, Abbott Elementary has trended many times over its short run, including on nights it isn't even airing, and tweets about the show have gone viral. This is something I could brush off if the ratings were low, but it's done pretty nicely there, too, with a 0.64 in its timselot premiere/second episode, an increase from the December preview despite a lower lead-in. It's pretty easy for me to believe that a show that has solid ratings to begin with is also getting slid viewership on streaming platforms, which the online buzz seems to suggest. In this day and age, multiplatform performance is more important than ever, and shows doing well there are rarely canceled. Though there's little data so far about Abbott, much of it is positive, enough for me to up it to LIKELY RENEWAL.
Grey's Anatomy: Today, ABC ordered another season of Thursday night stalwart Grey's Anatomy. Even with Ellen Pompeo yet again foreshadowing an imminent end for the show, its renewal was quite obvious. It's the first ABC renewal of the season and my first correct prediction of the season.
