Three more shows have debuted on The CW in the month since our last Renew/Cancel update, and that means it's time for a new update, centering on those three shows. Keep reading for initial predictions for Superman & Lois, Dynasty, and freshman superhero drama Naomi.
Naomi: The most recent show to premiere on The CW, Naomi hasn't lit the ratings world on fire. Despite having The CW's top show as its lead-in, the show is only averaging a so-so 0.12 in the 18-49 demo. That's a very average rating for today's CW, with the show rating towards the middle of the network's scripted programming crop. So far, the show is the top 9 PM series on The CW, and even considering its lead-in, that's probably more than enough for a renewal. When taking into account both its ratings and the talent behind the show - Ava DuVernay is both a creator and producer of the series - it's hard to see it as anything worse than a LIKELY RENEWAL.
Superman & Lois: Speaking of Tuesday CW shows, Superman & Lois has returned in solid shape, currently rating as the #1 CW show over its first few episodes. It was solid in season one, and it seems to be a continued reliable player this time around, earning that 8 PM slot that it was given. It's a CERTAIN RENEWAL.
Dynasty: It's hard to ever know what will happen with Dynasty. Its ratings warranted a cancellation from the start, and it hasn't exactly gotten stronger in the coming seasons. Despite that, it enjoyed a Netflix deal that was able to spare it from cancellation. Typically, CW shows that rate this low don't make it past 100 episodes. The 100 ended with 100 episodes, as did Jane the Virgin. The Originals, iZombie and Black Lightning all ended well before that point. Dynasty will surpass that point this year, with a 22-episode fifth season. It could make some sense to end the show at this point. However, most shows have contracts that last for six seasons, and I think that with a show with a deal as profitable as Dynasty, The CW won't be willing to give it up before they have to. History suggests that the end may be here, but I don't see much of a reason to expect that The CW won't try for at least one final season. It LEANS RENEWAL.
