Put Me In Season 3 Episode 7: All-Star Game Voting Rule Changes

CARTER is sitting in the Charleston Capitols’ clubhouse. He is with the team’s trainer, AL.

CARTER
So you think you can fix my pitching?

AL
I never said that.

CARTER
Then what am I doing here?

AL
Don’t have much to lose.

CARTER
That wasn’t comforting.

AL
I’m not here for comfort.

CARTER
So you’re telling me if I just sit here I’ll become a better pitcher?

AL
It’s certainly possible.

CARTER
And you’re sure you’re the team’s trainer?

AL
Are you questioning my abilities?

CARTER
Uh huh.

AL
Oh. Well in that case, yes, I’m sure I’m the team’s trainer.

LEWIS runs into the clubhouse.

LEWIS
CARTER! CARTER! CARTER!

CARTER
Um...what?

LEWIS
Oh there you are! I was looking all over for you!

CARTER
I told you I’d be down here.

LEWIS
I have some news.

CARTER
Good or bad?

LEWIS
Depends who you ask.

CARTER
Well what is it?

LEWIS
I don’t know if you’re gonna make the All Star Game!

CARTER
The All Star game? You’re really thinking about that right now?

LEWIS
Of course I am, I’m gonna be the coach of one of the teams!

CARTER
I promise I’ll get better. Al over here has given me exercises that might make me a better pitcher.

LEWIS
So you had one bad game, who cares. I’ve seen you pitch, you’ll be back to striking everyone out in no time. But that’s not what I’m talking about.

CARTER
Oh?

LEWIS
They just made it a lot tougher to vote for the All Star Game pitchers.

CARTER
A lot harder? I thought all you managers just got together and picked some.

LEWIS
This year, they’re not giving us food and drinks at the meeting!

CARTER
I didn’t know you were a big food and drink at meetings guy.

LEWIS
I’m not, but you’d be surprised how many managers are!

CARTER
I don’t see the connection.

LEWIS
Some managers are gonna boycott the meeting!

CARTER
Over not getting a scone?

LEWIS
Actually, they’re muffins, not scones. You’d know if you’d ever been to one.

CARTER
Can’t. I’m a player.

AL
Can’t help but overhear. That’s actually a much-needed change. I heard pitchers would send managers food personally as a form of bribery.

LEWIS
They also want Manager I.D.s for entry now and none of us know what those are.

CARTER
They’re given to managers when they become manager. You have one.

LEWIS
Had, maybe. If I ever got one I have no clue where I put it.

CARTER
I’m sure the best pitchers will make the All Star Game. Nothing to worry about.

LEWIS
Hold up. I’m getting a phone call.

LEWIS answers the phone, listens, and hangs up.

LEWIS
Problem solved!

CARTER
They’re letting you have food after all?

LEWIS
No. But we’re moving the meeting to a different building! Problem solved!

LEWIS runs back to the dugout.

CARTER looks to AL.

CARTER
Nice to know my coach has his priorities straight.

AL
I’ll see you next time you think you’re a terrible pitcher. A scone sounds really good right now.
