TOMMY
Yeah, you REALLY should be campaigning though.
DARNELL
I can’t take some time off?
CASEY
You can take time off after the election. You should at least be active on social media.
DARNELL
Fine, if you insist.
TOMMY
Good talk. I hope you come back soon though because this election is wrapping up quickly.
TOMMY and CASEY both hang up.
DARNELL [to himself]
I have an idea.
DARNELL places his phone against a stack of books and presses record. He walks back a few steps and stands in the view of the camera.
DARNELL
Hello, I am Darnell. As many of you may know, I am running for Congress of Ohio. I am a die-hard Ohioan, I have always loved Ohio and I love living here. In fact, I’m just about to step outside and go to the big game now. Go team!
I hope to have your vote in November. I just came back from talking to many Ohioans on the campaign trail, and I am so happy to be right here in Ohio now.
Together, we can stop the radical left. Time for me to get my beer, bye!
DARNELL ends the recording.
DARNELL [to himself]
Perfect.
DARNELL posts the video on all his social media accounts. A few hours later, he received a call from TOMMY.
TOMMY
What in Hell are you doing?
DARNELL
You saw the video?
TOMMY
It’s made the rounds. You see, someone figured out you taped that from your place in New York. It’s gone viral.
DARNELL
Is that good or bad?
TOMMY
That’s TERRIBLE! You lied and said you were in Ohio!
DARNELL
Eh, I’ll just take it down, this will pass.
TOMMY
This will PASS?! We’re already at the early voting period and the video has been reposted by many people. You can delete it but you’d just look like a coward, and the video would still be out there and still going viral.
DARNELL
Well, we all make mistakes.
TOMMY
This is a huge one. You better be ready to be on the defense here on the debate next week.
DARNELL
There’s one of THOSE in this little thing?!
TOMMY
Oh boy. Goodbye.
TOMMY hangs up. DARNELL shrugs and goes to bed.
