This is The TV Ratings Guide’s first renew/cancel post for Disney+, Disney’s paid streaming service that isn’t named Hulu. Using audience demand figures from Parrot Analytics can give us a solid stance on where things stand at the moment. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment!
Note: If a show receives a 5.0 in the ‘U.S. Audience Demand Multiplier,’ that means the show has five times more audience demand than the average show across all of television, past and present, on a rolling 30-day average. These numbers are updated as of Saturday, January 23, 2021.
Show | Genre | U.S. Audience Demand Multiplier | Countries With Audience Demand Higher Than U.S. | Prediction |
The Mandalorian | Drama | 98.3 | 0 | Already Renewed |
Star Wars: The Clone Wars | Continuation | 43.1 | 0 | Already Ended |
WandaVision | Drama | 23.7 | 0 | Miniseries |
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series | Comedy | 9.5 | 1 | Already Renewed |
The Right Stuff | Drama | 6.6 | 0 | Renewal Predicted |
Diary of a Future President | Comedy | 0.6 | 1 | Already Renewed |
The Right Stuff
The Right Stuff is no Mandalorian, but virtually no show on all of television matches the wildly success Star Wars-based series. There is not much precedent as to what to base a decision on; of the other two original dramas on the platform, The Mandalorian is a beyond obvious renewal and WandaVision is a miniseries ineligible for a second season. The Right Stuff is not tied into Star Wars or Marvel (or High School Musical), so really the only show that it can possibly be compared to is Diary of a Future President. It is unclear what Disney+ has as standards for dramas, but if they can renew Diary of a Future President, The Right Stuff doesn’t look so bad. Keep in mind, while the former show was released first, its audience demand has held largely steady beyond the past 30 days.
