American Housewife: Today, ABC announced its midseason schedule, a schedule that will see American Housewife wrapped for the season by April, with only twelve episodes airing in its fifth season. Nothing in its ratings point to it being a candidate for cancellation, given that it holds onto most of The Goldbergs, but this is a worrying sign. ABC is choosing to throw a new show on the schedule late into the season over giving Housewife a longer season, and is also choosing to wrap Housewife early instead of pulling the newbie Call You Mother, which shows little promise. Housewife has never been a big priority for ABC and has been moved so many times across the schedule. Its luck may run out this time, though I still think it has a better than even shot of returning for season six. It now LEANS RENEWAL.
A Million Little Things: A Million Little Things didn't get great news today, either. It's moving from a cushy post-Grey's Anatomy slot to a horrendous post-Call Your Mother slot. It's not a sign of great confidence, going from a strong and compatible lead-in to Call Your Mother. I'm not downgrading it, however, as I want to first see how it performs in this slot. It remains a LIKELY RENEWAL until further notice.
