Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist: Tuesday brought us the return of one of NBC's lowest-rated shows, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. The musical dramedy was a big flop in season one, but was a network favorite that clearly made a profit somewhere down the line. It returned for season two with a 0.52. That's not impressive at all, especially right before NBC's #1 show This Is Us, but it's certainly an improvement over the 0.42 average from season one. In fact, it's an even bigger jump from the 0.38 for last year's timeslot debut. If NBC made it work last time around, I have some confidence that they'll find a way to give it a third season as well. After all, ratings are down from the 2019-20 season and staying steady with the ratings for first season would be pretty good for it. It has plenty of time to drop to cancel-worthy numbers, but for now, it LEANS RENEWAL.
Nurses: In less positive news, new show Nurses is on the decline. In its third episode, and first behind This Is Us, it drew just a 0.33. That's abysmal, considering its 1.01 lead-in. It's probably quite cheap to acquire, but NBC truly does not need it, especially after picking up fellow Canadian medical drama Transplant, which performed better. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.
