There’s good news and bad news for Fox News Primetime. The bad news is it’s not improving upon The Story, a news-based show which aired in the 7pm time slot throughout the previous presidential administration. The Story was the one hour across all four networks marketed as a news show, rather than an opinion show, airing in prime time.
If Fox News replaced The Story with another news show, it would be safe to call Fox News Primetime a failure at launch. Just like with The Story, there are instances of it being the only prime time program across Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC to not finish as one of the night’s top 50 cable programs in A18-49. When it does finish in the top 50 programs, the results still aren’t all that stellar, continuing to be behind fellow 7pm programs The ReidOut and Erin Burnett OutFront in key demographics.
However, a quick look at Newsmax TV’s ratings indicates there is indeed some good news for Fox News Primetime. Recently, there were instances where Greg Kelly Reports would come close to, tie, or even beat The Story in A18-49. Greg Kelly Reports fails to compete with Fox News Primetime. By switching from news to opinion, Fox News appears to have found a program that can fight off competition from the newer conservative network.
