Monday TV Ratings 9/25/17: Good Doctor Very Strong, Young Sheldon Enormous (UPDATED)

It was a great premiere Monday to be CBS. It was a less great premiere Monday to be any other network. The Tiffany Network dominated the competition last night, easily besting all of the other networks at 8 and cruising to a strong #2 at 9. The Big Bang Theory's "Shamy" cliffhanger was answered last night, which led to an incredible 3.9 for the show. But that wasn't even to most insane part of the night, as Young Sheldon easily grabbed the title of #1 series premiere of the season (a title it will certainly hold onto) with an enormous and shocking 3.7. After that was a 2.3 from the controversial Kevin Can Wait, the show's highest rating since late September of last year. Me, Myself & I had an OK start with 1.7, with decent retention from its lead-in. All of that positive mojo from the first two hours led to absolutely nothing positive for Scorpion, which was down from last year's premiere and finale and tied for a series low. It's a rough datapoint for sure, but it's possible that new shows on NBC and ABC just stole some eyeballs and the show could gain some viewers back as viewers lose interest in those shows. ABC had week 2 of Dancing With the Stars and the premiere of The Good Doctor. Dancing was down a tenth from last week, but that didn't hurt The Good Doctor, which pulled an incredible 2.4, up about 0.8 from its DWTS lead-in's second hour. It's an encouraging start for the alphabet, as last year's Conviction pulled in well below half of that number, and their drama department is in rough shape. The Good Doctor, if it holds up, could be one of their biggest success stories in years. NBC had a very mediocre start to the season, with a 2.6 for the Voice to start the night. The show is down a lot from 2016's Fall premiere, but a 2.6 is still great for any show. Less great is the 1.4 for newbie the Brave. The military drama did very poorly in retaining Voice viewers, going as low as 1.2 in its second half. It's also well below last season's Timeless, which was considered a disappointing premiere itself. The Brave likely won't be long for this world if it can't muster up more than that. Fox had a terrible night, with 0.6 for the So You Think You Can Dance finale. It was crushed by the extreme competition, but at least it was steady. The CW fool-ishly aired an episode of Penn & Teller: Fool Us in an unusual time slot AND against the huge competition, and it backfired significantly.

Finals Update: The Big Bang Theory (+0.2) and Young Sheldon (+0.1) adjusted up. Dancing With the Stars (-0.1), The Good Doctor (-0.2), Me, Myself & I (-0.1), The Brave (-0.1), and So You Think You Can Dance (-0.1) adjusted down.
