The biggest story of the week is Rachel Maddow Show’s performance on Thursday night. Maddow interviewed Mary Trump, the niece of President Donald Trump, on the show. Mary Trump is also the author of the controversial new book, “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man,” referring to the President himself. The book sold over one million copies on its first day, and people turned out in droves to find out what she had to say on Rachel Maddow Show.

The result was 5.229 million viewers, which is not only a series high for Rachel Maddow Show, but also the most-viewed regularly scheduled program in MSNBC’s history. The network, which celebrated its 24th anniversary on the air just a day prior, was mostly at the bottom of the pack the rest of the week, sans Thursday’s Maddow-boosted Last Word.

Tucker Carlson was largely absent from his own show this week, anchoring only Monday before going on a four-day vacation. Fellow FOX News anchor Brian Kilmeade filled in on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The results were not good.

Kilmeade saw a small uptick on his first night covering for Carlson in the all-important A25-54, but did not see significant gains in A18-49 or A18-34, and fell in total viewers from the day before. While that is not a bad result — Carlson set a high bar for ratings — the Wednesday and Thursday ratings indicated viewers are not as interested in the substitute host. Tucker Carlson tonight averaged roughly a 0.58 in A25-54 in the first half of the week, and tumbled to roughly a 0.435 average on Wednesday and Thursday. That put the show behind Hannity in both instances, which itself took a hit from having a lower lead-in.

The Ingraham Angle also struggled in the latter part of the week, falling behind six of CNN’s 12 hours on Wednesday and Thursday. This includes three of the four airings of Cuomo Prime Time, which proved itself to be CNN’s highest-rated prime time program in A25-54 on three of the four nights this week. Ingraham finished in seventh place out of nine on Thursday in A25-54, losing the hour to both CNN and MSNBC. An eighth place finish may not have been out of the question had CNN not aired a town hall, which was the weakest hour of CNN’s week.

Monday’s edition of All In with Chris Hayes failed to reach the top 50 cable shows that night. As such, A25-54 and A18-34 numbers were not reported, though it was confirmed to be the lowest-rated prime time cable news program this week in A18-49.
