INT. COLLEGE LIBRARY - DAY
Daniel sits with Joel, Tyler, and Greg in the university library. Joel, Tyler, and Greg are having the same conversation about whether Hulk or Thor is stronger. Daniel is staring at Bailey. Bailey notices and smiles at him. Daniel takes a deep breath. He gets up and walks over to Bailey’s table. He kisses her and she kisses him back. They stop kissing each other and stare into each other’s eyes.
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Daniel wakes up. He was dreaming. Bailey is at the table eating breakfast. Tyler is standing watch at the hole. Joel and Greg are asleep upright on the couch. Daniel gets up and joins Bailey at the table.
BAILEY
Sleep well?
DANIEL
Um yeah. Yeah, I did.
Tyler joins them at the table.
TYLER
No sign of the sorority.
DANIEL
That’s good. Maybe they’ve realized that fighting each other won’t do any of us any good.
BAILEY
I still don’t think so. Like I said before, Claire is crazy.
Joel and Greg wake up. Joel rubs his head.
JOEL
Did... did we party last night?
TYLER
No.
JOEL
Then why does my head hurt?
GREG
And why does it smell like pot?
DANIEL
You two decided to get high and drunk when you were supposed to be guarding the apartment.
JOEL
Oh yeah.
TYLER
Also, Greg almost killed himself.
GREG
What?
TYLER
You two tried playing Russian roulette. With a Glock.
JOEL
Oh yeah. Well, good thing y’all showed up in time.
TYLER
Yeah, good thing.
Joel and Greg join the others at the table.
JOEL
So, what’s on the agenda for today? Video Games? Fight to the death with a psychotic sorority.
DANIEL
Greg and I will go out and see if there’s any sign of the girls. The rest of you, guard the apartment.
Daniel and Greg get up to leave. Daniel grabs a rifle and Greg grabs a shotgun. They exit the apartment.
JOEL
(To Tyler)
Wanna play Fortnite?
TYLER
No. Magic?
JOEL
Nope.
Joel, Bailey, and Tyler sit in awkward silence.
TYLER
There’s always the whale documentary.
BAILEY
I’m down for that.
TYLER
Great. I’ll get it started.
Tyler goes to the tv and sets up the movie.
JOEL
Do you have any idea what you’ve agreed to?
BAILEY
Watching an informative movie about whales? Yes, yes I do.
JOEL
Just making sure.
EXT. WASTELAND - DAY
Daniel and Greg walk among the ruins.
GREG
Do you really think the girls will fight?
DANIEL
I don’t know. I hope not.
GREG
If they do, we need to be ready to kill.
DANIEL
I know.
There is a sound. Daniel and Greg stop. They raise their guns.
DANIEL
Where’d it come from?
GREG
I don’t know.
They stand back to back. Claire appears from behind a piece of debris. She is carrying a pistol.
CLAIRE
Hello there.
Daniel and Greg point their guns at her.
CLAIRE
Sorry boys, but I’m afraid you’re a little outnumbered.
Around them, The Sisterhood emerges from behind the ruins with their guns pointed at Daniel and Greg.
CLAIRE
Drop them, boys.
Daniel and Greg drop their guns.
GREG
If you’re gonna kill us, just do it already.
CLAIRE
We’re not gonna kill you just yet. We’ll need you to get to the others. Now move.
Daniel and Greg walk back towards the apartment. The Sisterhood follows behind with their guns pointed at the two men.
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Joel, Bailey, and Tyler sit on the couch watching the whale documentary.
BAILEY
This is actually pretty good.
Joel rolls his eyes.
CLAIRE
Joel! Tyler! Bailey! Are you there?
Joel grabs his Glock and he, Bailey, and Tyler go to the hole. On the ground, Daniel and Greg are standing with their hands up. The Sisterhood stands beside them. Claire stands in front of them.
CLAIRE
As you can see, we got two of your friends.
DANIEL
Don’t do anything they say!
Victoria hits Daniel in the stomach with the butt of her rifle. Daniel falls to his knees clutching his stomach. Joel points his Glock at Claire.
TYLER
You can’t make that shot.
JOEL
I can try.
CLAIRE
Go ahead and shoot me, Joel. But if you do, my sisters will kill your friends.
Joel lowers his gun.
JOEL
What do you want?
CLAIRE
Your supplies and weapons.
JOEL
Sorry, I can’t do that. We need them.
CLAIRE
Oh, come on Joel. Your friends for your supplies. It’s an easy trade.
Joel contemplates the situation.
JOEL
Ok. Give us a minute to gather everything.
CLAIRE
Ok.
Joel, Bailey, and Tyler retreat into the apartment.
TYLER
You’re not actually going to give them our supplies, are you?
JOEL
Hell no.
BAILEY
So you have a plan?
JOEL
Hell no.
TYLER
So what do we do? They’ll kill Daniel and Greg.
JOEL
It would leave us more supplies.
Bailey slaps the back of Joel’s head.
JOEL
Ow! The hell was that for?
BAILEY
Your friends are out there. We need to focus.
JOEL
If you have a plan, I’m all ears.
Bailey paces back and forth.
JOEL
Well?
BAILEY
I’m thinking.
Bailey stops pacing.
BAILEY
Alright, I got nothing.
Joel raises his gun.
JOEL
Well then, it looks like I’m going down in a hail of bullets.
Joel starts heading towards the hole.
TYLER
Wait.
Joel stops. He and Bailey turn towards Tyler.
TYLER
I have an idea. It’s the most ridiculous plan I can think of, but it just might work.
JOEL
We’re listening.
EXT. APARTMENT - DAY
Claire paces around Daniel and Greg.
CLAIRE
Your friends are taking their sweet time. Let me guess, your friends are figuring out a plan to rescue you two.
GREG
You’re damn right they are.
CLAIRE
They can try. All of you are gonna die anyway.
DANIEL
You were never going to trade us for the supplies.
CLAIRE
Correct. See, if you and your friends live, you’ll just try and take back your supplies.
DANIEL
We can survive together. Combine our resources.
CLAIRE
Yeah, not really our style.
Claire looks at the apartment.
CLAIRE
You got one minute!
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
JOEL
That is the worst plan I’ve ever heard.
TYLER
Well, it’s the only one we’ve been able to come up with.
BAILEY
I’m down for it.
JOEL
Of course you are.
BAILEY
Look, either we do this or give them all of our supplies and then let them kill us.
Joel contemplates the plan.
JOEL
Fine.
EXT. APARTMENT - DAY
CLAIRE
Time’s up. Ladies, storm the place.
The Sisterhood prepares to advance on the apartment.
TYLER
Wait! We’re coming out!
Claire signals the Sisterhood to wait.
Joel and Bailey appear from the apartment ground entrance. Their hands are raised. Behind them, is Tyler who is holding a gun at Joel and Bailey’s back. Tyler is also wearing a backpack.
CLAIRE
What the hell?
TYLER
I got the supplies.
DANIEL
Tyler, what’re you doing?
TYLER
I’m joining them.
CLAIRE
Um sorry, but we’re a sorority and you’re... well... you have a penis.
TYLER
C’mon, I got you the supplies. Plus, I got two more hostages for you.
CLAIRE
Ok seriously, what the hell is going on?
TYLER
I’m sick of how these so-called friends treat me. I’m smart. I contribute to the group. But they don’t care. To them, I’m just some nerd who would prefer to watch a documentary than some stupid Tarantino movie.
DANIEL
Tyler we’re sorry.
GREG
Yeah, buddy.
JOEL
Yeah, what they said.
TYLER
None of you are sorry! But you will be.
Tyler shoots Joel in the head. Joel falls to the ground on his stomach. Everyone else is screaming.
GREG
Tyler what the fuck did you do!
TYLER
Payback.
CLAIRE
Holy shit! I can't believe you actually did it.
Tyler points his gun at Bailey’s head.
DANIEL
Tyler!
TYLER
Sorry, Dan. I know how you feel about her but she’s gotta go too.
Claire turns to Daniel.
CLAIRE
You like her?
Daniel nods.
CLAIRE
Oh, this is going to be so fun to watch. Tyler, you can proceed.
Joel rolls over on his side and pulls out his Glock. He shoots the sorority girls standing next to Daniel and Greg. Daniel and Greg grab their guns.
CLAIRE
What the-!
Daniel and Greg join Tyler and Bailey. Joel gets up and joins them. He, Daniel, and Greg shoot at the Sisterhood. The Sisterhood takes cover behind some ruins. Daniel, and the others take cover. Tyler pulls out a shotgun and rifle. He hands the shotgun to Bailey.
GREG
What the fuck was that?
TYLER
Prop gun and fake blood.
DANIEL
What?
TYLER
I read about them when I was researching Tarantino movies.
DANIEL
Nice.
JOEL
Nice? I have fake blood in my hair. My perfectly tuned volumized hair.
BAILEY
Oh, get over it.
GREG
So now what?
TYLER
We didn't think this far.
GREG
Oh great. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I really wish the sky would turn green and take them out.
JOEL
Agreed.
The two sides exchange gunfire. Daniel and his friends are able to take out some of the sorority girls.
BAILEY
We can’t do this forever.
DANIEL
I know.
Joel reloads his magazine and returns fire.
JOEL
Anyone got any ideas?
DANIEL
Hold your fire. Hold your fire!
The gunfire stops. Daniel steps out from his cover. Claire steps out of hers.
DANIEL
What in the world are we doing? We’re trying to kill each other. We might be the only people left alive. The fighting has to stop.
The sorority girls and Daniel’s friends step out from their cover. They listen to Daniel. Some of the girls nod.
Daniel drops his rifle and extends his hand towards Claire.
DANIEL
We can live together. Survive together. What do you say?
Claire drops her rifle. She walks over to Daniel and takes his hand. Her other hand discreetly reaches for a gun from her back waistband. She pulls it out and prepares to shoot Daniel. Daniel is unaware of this.
There is a gunshot and Claire drops to the ground dead. Daniel sees the gun in her hand and turns around. Bailey is pointing a pistol. Smoke comes out of the barrel. She lowers her gun.
Victoria walks over to Claire’s body.
VICTORIA
She always told us that we needed to look out for ourselves. That no one else mattered. So, what do we do now?
DANIEL
We survive... together.
VICTORIA
Look, we’ve been doing fine on our own.
DANIEL
We can’t just keep fighting with each other.
VICTORIA
I know. Let’s just stay out of each others way. Get our own supplies. Deal?
Daniel nods.
VICTORIA
Bailey, are you staying with them?
Bailey nods.
VICTORIA
Let’s go ladies.
The Sisterhood leaves.
JOEL
What in the world do we do now?
DANIEL
We can’t stay here.
TYLER
Why not?
DANIEL
No one’s coming. The apartment is… well it has a giant hole in it. And Victoria and the others will always be a threat to us.
BAILEY
So where do we go?
DANIEL
I don’t know.
A phone rings. Everyone looks at each other. Joel pulls out his phone.
TYLER
You found your phone?
JOEL
Yeah.
DANIEL
Who is it?
JOEL
Unknown caller.
GREG
Again?
BAILEY
What do you mean again?
JOEL
When you two were out getting supplies, we got a robocall.
DANIEL
Why didn’t you tell us this?
JOEL
We were drunk and high and also, it was a robocall.
BAILEY
Answer it.
Joel answers the phone and puts it on speaker.
CALLER
(Robotic voice)
Phoenix Ass.
The call ends.
JOEL
See, just a robocall. It even said the same thing.
BAILEY
What’s Phoenix Ass?
JOEL
Maybe it’s your stripper name.
Bailey glares at Joel.
TYLER
Maybe it’s a military call sign. Greg?
GREG
I highly doubt the military would use THAT as a call sign.
TYLER
Well then, what’s Phoenix Ass?
DANIEL
It’s Phoenix Pass and it’s a place.
JOEL
Huh?
BAILEY
How do you know?
DANIEL
In my neighborhood back home, there’s this big wooded area that people use for hiking. One of the trails is called Phoenix Pass but some jokesters scratched out the “P”.
JOEL
Why would someone call me and say the location of some hiking trail in your neighborhood?
DANIEL
I don’t know. There is a military base there.
BAILEY
Maybe we’re supposed to go. Maybe, it’s safe from whatever’s been happening.
TYLER
They may have called Joel cause our phones are dead.
GREG
What do you wanna do Dan?
Daniel contemplates the situation.
DANIEL
Looks like I’m going home.
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
The group pack their things and exit the apartment. The whale documentary is still playing.
EXT. APARTMENT - DAY
The group finds a car and Greg is able to start it. They get into the car. Daniel takes one last look at the apartment and gets into the driver's seat. The car drives off and enters onto the main highway and heads towards Daniel’s home town. The sky flashes green for a second.
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
The whale documentary is still playing. The cracked screen begins flashing and then goes static and then turns black. In green letters, the words PHOENIX ASS NOT SAFE. DO NOT GO appear.
