Tuesday TV Ratings 7/28/20: Regis Philbin and Coronavirus 20/20 Specials Boost What Would You Do? to Season High, America’s Got Talent Returns Down (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: After weeks of meager Tuesday ratings, ABC swapped out comedy repeats for 20/20 specials and got a sizable boost in the process. First came the 8pm broadcast honoring the life and legacy of acclaimed talk show host Regis Philbin (0.5) and then the slightly more robust one covering the Covid-19 pandemic (0.6). Awarded with a stronger and more compatible lead-in, 'What Would You Do?' (0.5) rose two-tenths to a stellar new season high at 10pm. But even with the alphabet network's renewed prosperity, NBC's unstoppable duo of 'America's Got Talent' (1.0) and 'World of Dance' (0.7) still took the lead for the evening. 'AGT' shed a tenth from its last original while 'Dance' actually gained two-tenths after last week's rotten season low. The CW was even with 'Stargirl' (0.2) but remained low with the series premiere of 'Tell Me a Story' (0.1). CBS and Fox were entirely in repeat mode but CBS's dramas (0.5/0.4/0.3) remained a notch above Fox's 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.3) and 'Prodigal Son' (0.2).

Finals Update: The repeat of NCIS (-0.1) adjusted down.
