Prime Time Cable News Ratings: Donald Trump on Hannity Lower Than Last Week’s Mary Trump Interview on Maddow, Tucker Carlson Rises With Its Host Back

Below are the prime time cable news ratings from Monday, July 20 - Thursday, July 23. The most important demographic to advertisers is A25-54. Also reported are demo ratings for A18-49 and A18-34, as well as total viewers (reported in millions.)

Ratings for All In with Chris Hayes on Monday were not in the top 50 cable shows in A18-49. As such, demo ratings for A25-54 and A18-34 have not been released, but it can be assumed they are at best tied with other ratings from the show this week.

After taking a few days off last week, Tucker Carlson is back hosting his own show. The results were positive; he topped the week in A25-54 on Tuesday, and was a good deal higher than the 0.43 and 0.45 that Brian Kilmeade saw last Wednesday and Thursday. While there has been elevated controversy surrounding Tucker Carlson these past few weeks, his show’s ratings are at its best when he is actually hosting it.

Coming off of a record-breaking night last Thursday, Rachel Maddow Show was relatively strong this week. It even rated higher than The Ingraham Angle in many key demos, including A25-54, on Wednesday and Thursday. This is a significant feat, given FOX News is typically uninterrupted at the top. Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell and especially All In with Chris Hayes continue to lag behind everything else.

CNN’s best and worst ratings this week came with specials; Monday’s Special Report out-rated time slot competitor Rachel Maddow Show as well as 10pm show The Ingraham Angle. Other than that, CNN was bunched in together with O’Donnell and Hayes below it, and FOX News and Maddow above it. The network was at its lowest with Thursday’s Global Town Hall at 8pm, which also struggled last week.

Donald Trump’s interview with Hannity on Thursday gave the show a ratings boost in all key demos. In recent weeks, these interviews have topped the week, but this one saw modest rises and finished below all demos on Tuesday’s Tucker Carlson Tonight except total viewers.

Additionally, the interview paled compared to last week’s Rachel Maddow Show with Mary Trump in the same time slot on a generally lower-rated network. Here is a table with side-by-side comparisons:

Perhaps this is interview fatigue for Hannity and Donald Trump, as they have been happening on a regular basis compared to Mary Trump’s one-time special coinciding with the release of her highly anticipated book about Donald. Regardless of the reason(s), it is certainly an interesting comparison.
