Preliminary Analysis: The fall television season may be less than two months away but Nielsen ratings remain as dismal as ever.
ABC was the only network with digestible numbers, settling for another round of 'AFV' (0.5), 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.6), and 'Press Your Luck' (0.5) repeats. But things ended on a sour note for the alphabet network as a 10pm 'Match Game' encore (0.3) trailed the other three. The 'Feud' repeat was just strong enough to top the night and was also within a tenth of its last original episode (
7/12/20).
'60 Minutes' (0.4) shed a tenth on
CBS but still managed to outperform every non-ABC program. That's more of a testament to how meager broadcast ratings have become than to the strength of the series in question. Anemic repeats of 'Tough as Nails' (0.2) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.2) followed 'Minutes' but a 10pm 'NCIS: New Orleans' repeat (0.3) admirably built from there. Over on
NBC, 'Cannonball' (0.3) was flat and led into 'Titan Games' (0.2) and 'America's Got Talent' (0.3) encores.
Fox had a mixed bag of cartoon-majority repeats. Longtime veterans 'Simpsons' (0.3), 'Family Guy' (0.3), and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.3) pulled semi-decent numbers (by depressed summer standards) while 'Last Man Standing' (0.2) and 'Bless the Harts' (0.2) were a notch below them. And a 7:30pm 'Duncanville' (0.1) delivered an absolutely putrid result, begging the question if the Amy Poehler comedy will eventually drop down to the dreaded 0.0 rating that only the CW has ever garnered. Speaking of the
CW, repeats of 'Stargirl' (0.1) and 'Penn and Teller' (0.1) matched what 'Duncan' pulled on Fox.
Finals Update: The repeat of NCIS: Los Angeles (+0.1) adjusted up.
