Wednesday TV Ratings 3/28/18: Alex, Inc. Does Mediocre, Criminal Minds Soars, Life Sentence Hits 0.1 (UPDATED)

After the network's HUGE Tuesday, ABC's luck stopped last night. New sitcom Alex, Inc. premiered, to tepid results. It began at just slightly over half of Splitting Up Together's 2.1, and with a 1.1, is right on average with Speechless. Considering that Speechless had its order cut to make for Alex, this is not a strong start. Elsewhere, the night was not much better, as lead-off The Goldbergs sank two-tenths to 1.4 and 9PM anchor Modern Family fell three tenths to 1.4. At 9:30, a repeat of Splitting Up Together posted a 0.8. Designated Survivor managed to drop from it. Elsewhere, CBS's Criminal Minds had a great night, with a two-tenth uptick to 1.1, clearly being helped by the lack of Chicago PD. Ahead of it, both Survivor and (the recently renewed) SEAL Team held steady. Also having a big night was Fox, which posted huge gains thanks to the returns of Empire and Star. Empire hit a 2.0 for its return, which brought Star up to a 1.5. Both shows won their timeslot, and easily were the highest-rated dramas of the night. NBC had a Voice recap special at 1.3, which led into an anemic Andrew Lloyd Webber special at 0.6. The CW shows both lost a tenth, with Life Sentence finally notching a 0.1, tying Dynasty in record time.

Finals Update: SEAL Team (-0.1) adjusted down.
